This 25-question multiple-choice reading comprehension and analysis test on the poems “Thumbprint” by Eve Merriam (13 QUESTIONS) & “The Drum” (for MLK, Jr.) by Nikki Giovanni (12 QUESTIONS) has questions from different levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy (revised). It will test students’ literal and interpretive understanding of the selection including: author’s purpose, point of view, making inferences, vocabulary, literary devices, figurative language, fact and opinion, summarization, analogies, and other elements of literature. Questions are modeled after standardized tests (SAT, ACT, and state tests) to familiarize students with the structure and vocabulary of standardized test questions. Questions are spaced 1.5 lines apart for comfortable reading. The questions also encourage students to go back and re-read key parts of the selection, a crucial skill for comprehension and improving reading stamina. Teachers are encouraged to remove/add questions as they see fit for their students. Includes link to free file of the text so each student can get their own copy to annotate. Answer key included. Editable MS Word Doc. You can use this product for years and years! Feedback is always welcomed and appreciated! A Today Show Best Book of the YearAn NPR Favorite Book of 2019From E.B. White Read Aloud honor artist Matthew Forsythe comes an “extraordinary” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) picture book about a magical drum, an emerald forest, and the little frog who dares to make her own music. The biggest mistake Pokko’s parents ever made was giving her the drum. When Pokko takes the drum deep into the forest it is so quiet, so very quiet that Pokko decides to play. And before she knows it she is joined by a band of animals —first the raccoon, then the rabbit, then the wolf—and soon the entire forest is following her. Will Pokko hear her father’s voice when he calls her home?Pokko and the Drum is a story about art, persistence, and a family of frogs living in a mushroom.
Whether introducing or reinforcing rhythmic literacy, you and your students will have a jammin' good time practicing and composing rhythms with these mnemonic graphics and engaging activities. 36 pages include a hyperlinked index, 'tried and true' teaching guide, 33 pages of colorful, printable or projectable rhythm cards and jam sessions, and two pages of black-line masters, smaller one-beat activity cards for more economical printing if desired. Adaptable to three skill levels: Level 1: quarter notes, quarter rests, and eighth-note pairs Level 2: above rhythms plus sixteenth notes (tika-tika) Level 3: above rhythms plus sixteenth- and eighth-note combinations (ti-tika and tika-ti) I've included two ready-made three-part jam sessions for each level (six total), suggested music for play-alongs and instructions for composing activities. The possibilities are endless for creating ostinatos, drum circles and 'jam' sessions! This is one of my favorite ways to involve students in reading, chanting, playing and creating rhythm patterns. Using the Orff technique of speech-to-rhythm, these icons and their rhythmic text will cement student comprehension and recall of the notation as well as build playing and composing skills. Great for drum circles and rhythm band activities! Teachers and students also enjoy my LEVEL A TRAFFIC JAM SESSIONS, which include 12 sessions that teach ta, ti-ti, and rest; and/or LEVEL B TRAFFIC JAM SESSIONS, which include 15 sessions that teach ta, ti-ti, quarter rest, tiki-tiki (tiri-tiri), ti-tiki (ti-tiri), tiki-ti (tiri-ti), and single eighth note with eighth rest.
