4 Things To Do After a School Break No comments Classroom Ideas, Classroom Management, School break, Tips and Tricks I think we'd all agree that extended school breaks are the best. I know that for me, the fall, winter, and spring breaks tend to roll around when I need them most. But, being out of the classroom routine for an extended length of time means I need to spend a bit of time getting my kids back into the groove of things when classes resume. Whenever we come back from a long break, there are four things I like to do to make sure our transition back is as smooth as possible. Review our classroom rules/expectations. Our rules are actually our school wide expectations. There are 10 expectations. Which is a lot. We spent two weeks at the beginning of the school year discussing, thinking, and writing about each expectations in depth, but again, 10 expectations is a lot. After a long break, it's super important to review them. Whether you have 5 classroom rules, or 10, be sure to spend a bit of time reviewing them. Set a goal. Once I've reviewed the rules (or expectations), I like to set daily goals during our morning meeting. This is a good way to focus on each expectation rather than just quickly read through them as a group. What do I mean by set a goal? Our first school wide expectation is to "Use Good Manners." So, on our first day back, we'll read through the expectations and then I'll tell students that as a class we will really focus on expectation #1. We'll talk about using polite words and actions. The next day, students can share examples of what they did to meet the goal before a new goal is set for the next expectation. Review our procedures. I know, I know, you have about 347 classroom procedures. So do I, but reviewing the ones that can have the biggest impact on your day is a good idea. Especially if you teach the little ones. I like to review the following procedures: morning tub expectations (read more about morning tubs here) CHAMPS whole body listening non-verbal signals lining up walking in the hallway sitting on the carpet Let students tell about their break. Our students love their breaks just as much as we do. There's a pretty good chance that they experienced something they'd like to share with you, or the class. There are a few ways to do this. You could let your students share them during your morning meeting time. Let students share one at a time. This is not only fun for the student sharing, but it's also fun for everyone else. Students like hearing what their friends were up to when they were apart. Plus, it's a great way to practice speaking in complete sentences and taking turns. Another way to let students share is the traditional writing prompt approach. Have your students write about what they did. Once finished, they can share their writing and ideas with a partner, their table group, or the whole class. Have a tip to add to the list? Leave a comment below! :) DON'T FORGET IT, PIN IT! I started in June 2009 and I am at my #10 now Why am I doing this? 1. It's a safe playground, working on a wtj gives myself the message: it's ALL RIGHT, mistakes are impossible, everything is allowed and the right way to do it 2. I don't know a better workbook, paper quality, cover, size, everything is great! So I stick to that (and it's not printed in China like e.g. moleskine are!) 3.. The instructions are part of the game, although I do not follow most of them since I started the second one 4. I don't know any book that could be more fun than this- so thanks to Keri Smith! Will I ever stop? I believe not. If you want to know what's inside, please look at the sets.

Finding Slope (4 ways) Station Activity 8 stations-8 problems at each station Students choose 2 problems at each station to complete STATION A and E: Find slope given a graph. STATION B and F: Find slope given two points. STATION C and G: Find slope given a table. STATION D: Find slope given an equation in slope-intercept form. STATION H: Find the slope given an equation in standard form. I divide the students into groups of 3 to 4, and they travel from station to station. Each student picks two problems from each station to complete. Students change stations every 4 to 6 minutes. Students enjoy moving around and picking their problems. Students ask to do this type of activity over and over! I have cut and laminated cards onto card stock for years of use! Please email me at [email protected] with any concerns.

The Copenhagen Cardigan is worked flat back and forth from the top down with raglan increases on a circular needle. The neckline is shaped using short rows. The cardigan is worked in stockinette stitch, while rib front plackets are worked along the front edges at the same time. Afterthought pockets are worked from stitches that are picked up along the fronts of the cardigan. The sleeves are worked in the round in stockinette stitch either on double-pointed needles or on a long circular needle using the Magic Loop technique. Size guide The Copenhagen Cardigan is designed to have approx. 6 cm [2¼ inches] of positive ease. The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL are designed to fit a bust circumference of 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100) 100-110 (110-120) 120-130 (130-140) 140-150 cm [31½-33½ (33½-35½) 35½-37½ (37½-39½) 39¼-43¼ (43¼-47¼) 47¼-51¼ (51¼-55) 55-59 inches]. The measurements for the finished cardigan are listed on the front page of the pattern. Measure yourself before starting your project, to determine which size will fit you the best. This resource includes four recorder improvisation/note reading stations where students can work in small groups or learning centers specifically on the notes BAG. The bundle is meant to keep all students playing recorder and on-task whether they’re at a station/center for 2 minutes or 20. I’ve tried to include enough variety with the flash-cards that students can continue working on their own without redirection from you. My hope is that this also gives you the opportunity to mix and match flashcards to make this resource really work for you. Maybe you’ll print Station 1 twice and separate it in a variety of ways. Maybe you’ll squish stations together. Whatever you do, play around with the cards and see what you come up with. I’d love if you’d tell me about your variations so that I can us them and so that I can make the resource better for other people! My students love playing the recorder, but I haven’t always loved the logistics of testing students who are learning the recorder. The testing itself is fine, but it’s always been a struggle to set up stations that keep non-testing kids on task and keep them engaged enough to allow me to test the others. I needed a set of stations that can be used by students at ALL levels! This product includes: *Four different stations/centers for students playing the soprano recorder. Stations get increasingly more difficult as students are asked to improvise notes, create patterns with the cards, and create 4-8 beat melodies. All stations use the notes B, A, and G (if you’re interested in recorder sets for low E/D or high C’/D’ see the bottom of this listing). *Station 1: A set of 18 flash cards. Each flash card has a four beat melody in standard notation utilizing the notes B, A, and G. Students are asked to play the cards and then put them into patterns to create a short phrase. This station helps to reinforce reading notes on the staff and arranging into a phrase. *Station 2: A set of 24 flash cards. Each card has ONLY a rhythm pattern and a letter at the beginning of the card. Students must play the rhythm on the note that is indicated on the front of the card. This station helps students to associate notes with basic rhythms. This station also prepares students for the improvisation process on Station 3. Cards come with stick or standard notation. *Station 3: A set of 24 flash cards. Each card has only a rhythm pattern and TWO LETTERS at the beginning of the card. Students must play the rhythms choosing from the notes that are indicated on the front of the card. Students can choose to play the whole card on one note or switch in the middle of the note. This station helps students to improvise a little as they play a given rhythm but get to choose what note they play. Cards come with stick or standard notation. *Station 4: A set of 18 flash cards. Each card has two standard notes on the staff and two notes that are ONLY rhythms. This means that students get to play some given notes but have to make up part of the measure and can use any of the notes they know (B, A, or G) to complete the measure. This station helps students to improvise as they play. The given notes and rhythms help to scaffold as they work through the cards. *Stations can be done in any order. I suggest that you go through each station once or twice with students or walk them through the procedure before you ask them to do it on their own. However, there is one big “explanation” card in the set so that you can hand a mini-explanation out with the flashcards in case students forget what they’re supposed to do. *All cards can be printed in black and white but are set in a variety of fun colors.
