Dyan Reaveley is returning to Whim So Doodle in May! She will be here May 4th and 5th! Dyan will be teaching four (4) amazing classes here at Whim So Doodle May 4th and 5th! Keep Calm and Call Us...
Hello Everybody and Happy Friday! Now you know lately I've been really getting into Dyan Reaveley's Dylusions Inks Sprays and Stamps. Let me tell you why... I'm having the time of my life. Why you ask? Simply put, working with Dyan's goodies is so much fun!!! The designs are off the wall and out of the box, whimsical and totally a kick in the pants! There are some of you who may not have met Dyan yet, here is a bio I swiped from RangerInk.com....(hope they don't mind)... Mixed Media Artist Dyan Reaveley's unique eclectic style comes through in her vibrant color combinations of inks and paints, using text as an insightful design element and the clever use of imagery in her artwork. Dyan teaches and demos with Ranger and is known for her creativity with layering color, images and thought-provoking collages. Dyan owns and operates a teaching and design studio Art from the Heart in Harrogate, in the north of England. Dyan's mission is to introduce everyone to the fabulous therapy that is art journaling and creating mixed-media art. I had the coolest opportunity to meet Ms. Reaveley at CHA in what was it... July? I fell madly in love with Dyan, but don't tell her! I came home totally inspired and ran to the nearest store to purchase anything Dylusional! Now, I love Three-Dimensional art. I love to look at something and figure out how to make it from chipboard, even if it looks like it's impossible. I mean LOVE!!! That's my fun! Then add to that the excitement of covering it with the perfect paper....HEAVEN! God knows I love me some Graphic 45 to cover it with too! LOL! Now I'm not a stamper, sprayer or inker...yet I own the required nine million stamps, ink pads and color mists because...I don't know why...well...that's just what we do. But, there is something magical that happens when I play with the Dylusions stamps and ink sprays. First, It's a total departure from what I know and do. Second, I begin to let go....That folks is worth a million Dylusions Stamp sets! I just plain old let go and have fun. Not thinking about what the outcome may be. Not trying to match colors or designs, just having one of those, "Let it all hang out" kinda times. Like who cares whether something not perfect. To me, the imperfections make it just that much better! Ahhhhhh! So, Dylusional I've been lately! Tonight I wanted to share a project I created with the Dylusions stamps and spray inks. My first attempt at 3-D Dylusional Art....Need a bit of practice but what the heck! I was having fun! Of course me being the king of chipboard as one of my followers suggested...(Can I say that, or is that my male ego kicking in???? If so pardon me! I surely don't want it to be...LOL!) I decided to make a quirky boxed scene! I drew my inspiration from one of the stamps...Traveling Travis...The "suitcased" figure on the right of the picture below. Hope you like it as much as I had making it... Oh, how I love my friend Dyan Reaveley. She's one of my most favorite people on the planet. I'm *so* thilled that her new signature line with Ranger Ink is being released at CHA this weekend! The line includes new...
Last summer I told you about Dyan Reaveley, Ranger's Senior Educator in Europe, who dazzled me with her demos in the Ranger booth the entire show. This year she introduced her new line of rubber stamps and I can't wait to get my hands on them all. I love her use of color, her whimsy, and her imagination. Here's a closer look at the birds in their hats. Is this me or what? I've been crazy about birds for a couple of years now so this was right up my alley. And her sheet called "Around the Edge", plus her tips for creating borders, is now my favorite as well as her top seller. Now check out her umbrella images with the polka dots and stripes. She turns them upside down to create boats and cuts them apart to create butterflies. And do you remember I told you she rolls an entire paper towel roll over her wet work to absorb the extra inks? Just look behind the framed piece and there it is in living color. Her specialty is journals and I would have gladly brought them all home with me. All my antique ledgers that I've ripped apart over the years for kits are journals in her capable hands. As are children's books, store-bought journals, handmade journals, and even her father's algebra book, lightly coated with gesso first so print is still visible but no longer the focal image. She plays around with different color palettes, making me realize I've got to leave behind the safe and sure and do the same. She also has sheets of clever sayings. Below is a little masterpiece featuring her favorite and mine: "I don't like you, you're very ugly and you've no manners at all." Of course you need to hear her read it with her British accent for full effect. I'm back with new products already arriving which means classes can't be far behind. Come back later for more photos and info from CHA!
Well it's been a long time coming, but here I am at last with a blog update. After nearly missing my flight to Portland, I landed with no luggage. There wasn't time to load it onto the plane apparently!!! So I caught my connecting flight to Sacramento, and surprise surprise there was one of the suitcases. Talk about confused.!!! I was told my other case was still on it's way to Portland and should be with me asap. Luckily when I pack I try to split everything in between the two suitcases, so for example I had my toiletries, but no makeup...some show samples but no class samples... no chocolate but plenty of Nobby's nuts, lol. So apologies for the make up free face in the following pics ...those of a nervous disposition please look away now...... The truly gorgeous bundle of gorgeousness that is Richele, met me at the airport as she had foolishly invited me to stay with her for five days...he he he ...that'll serve her right for speaking without thinking.!! Any how she took me to her mansion...what is it with American homes, they are mahoosive...even the rooms have rooms.!! And there is a room for everything. Laundry room, boot room, craft room. Richele was teaching the next day so I went along to heckle. She is a fabby teacher and really knows her Ranger stuff. Go to her blog to see a fabulous step by step tag...say Hi from me...) Look at the gorgeous project she had made. This is the lovely Deborah who was teaching the next day. And this is the fabulous Carol, owner of Stampers Corner where I was teaching. And what a store, every square inch utilised. So much eye candy it was un believable. My new stamps were ready and waiting for me, so in between heckling Richelle, getting to know the natives and eating lots of munchies, I finished off a few pages I had started on the plane. See...M n M's, tea, dill pickles ( I know, it's one of their quaint traditions, lol ). As usual I was soon really really inked up, like a mucky pup. And to add insult to injury, what little clothes I had with me decided to fall apart. I'm such a professional don't ya think.?? Proof of me actually working.!!! The next day it was my turn to teach, I had three 3hr classes, and the women were just fabulous. They were soon inked up to their armpits and taking it all in their stride. I think I took a bit of getting used to, but then, don't I always.?? lmao Richele and her husband Del, made me so welcome and really feel at home. Normally I struggle staying in others homes and prefer my own company in a hotel, but I was so relaxed whilst staying there that I almost didn't want to leave. I re payed her hospitality by giving her a big kick up the jacksi as far as her career goes, lol. And I hope her new found confidence continues now I am home. I know I have truly made a wonderful friend and she is now stuck with me lmao. My suitcase eventually turned up, so the show and class samples crisis was averted, luckily. We were driving the 6 hrs from Sacramento to the show in Anaheim. Heres what the boot , or trunk as they say, looks like. It was fuller than this, because I just kept loading bags into it, until Richele discovered I had packed all her husbands bags as well!! oops. He was going away for the week, just not with us.!!! I love this photo of our designer challenges riding side by side. Thursday was the start of the teaching event for Crafters Home, with a full and very busy classroom. One of the rare times you will see Mario doing nothing.! The gorgeous Patti, who is responsible for making sure all the kits and equipment is shipped and in the right place. Mario tweeting his BTS (behind the scenes) Some of the tags I made, before I was distracted by... the arrival of my inks, first time seen in their new packaging.!!! Frikkin excited or what...? There was a fair few squeals I can tell you !! Happy dance, happy dance... Here I am with Mr Stampers Anonymous, the lovely Ted, who makes my stamps. ( Available HERE ) Our Ben landed half way through so came to join us. Inked up again as per usual. Tim having a bit of a breather The lovely Wendy Vecchi.... just love her, all we do is be rude to each other, in the way only good friends with a deep respect for each other can ! Then it was on to the show floor to start setting up the booth. So exciting to see my sign up and ready in it's place. And here's the new sign for the top of the spray ink rack. I can only describe it as all the pieces of the jigsaw finally starting to piece together. As you can see it's such a glamorous life being a designer. !! Here I am getting all my display boards in order. I had a prime spot in the booth with lots of display area and really wanted to make the biggest impact that I could. Here's some of the Ranger team, hard at work As soon as my boards were done it was time to make more samples. They all laugh at me, because I just can't sit still, I always have to be doing something, lol. So there is my first week. Tomorrow I will take you through the run up to the show and the workshop I taught along side, the Master himself, and the gorgeous Claudine Helmuth. Can you believe it, I had to keep pinching myself that it was all really happening. I feel so privileged and fortunate and I thank you all for your good wishes and support along the way. Enjoy xx

Hey Bloggers! Last weekend I was fortunate enough to take four classes from Ranger Industries' signature designer, Dyan Reaveley. Dyan hails from the U.K. and travels internationally demonstrating Ranger's products. Fueled by Diet Dr. Pepper and anything WITHOUT chili powder in it, Ms. Reaveley taught five inspiring and innovative classes during her stay here in Kansas City. Dyan and ReNae enjoy a moment between classes. Dyan says "My mission is to introduce everyone to the fabulous therapy that is art journaling and creating mixed-media art. Art is not the finished result; it is the actual act of creating that emerges when you let yourself play. It is the journey it takes from the soul. Dyan's Dylusions Stamps are very popular right now and you may have seen them in stores or have used them in some of your art projects. They are fun and funny and quirky. All stamps coordinate with each other so you can use one girl's head and other girl's body, and add accessories such as hats, glasses, birds, ants and spiders! Pictured below is one of 30 stamp sets designed by Dyan Reavely. They are simply amazing and so much fun to use! All hand-drawn by Dyan herself, these Dylusions stamps are particularly useful in art journaling and similar projects. Below is a sample of one of her journal pages. Journal page Class sample Love the eyelashes! The inks can be used for backgrounds, or you can put the ink in a water brush and paint an image as shown here! Stamper's Ink in Shawnee, Kansas (one of only 3 stops in the U.S.) and store owner Tanya Kostynuk played hostess to Dyan for five days! Tanya channeled her best Dyan when she appeared at one of the classes with a Victory Bun and scarf in her hair! Sisters in another life? Lucy & Ethyl I was very impressed with Dyan's teaching style and warm demeanor. I believe she may be one of the finest arts & crafts educators out there! Dyan Reaveley Remarkable was the degree of knowledge she had on many of Ranger's products that we use everyday. She taught us about a plethora of Ranger products, not just her own line, which I found commendable. I learned new ways to use these products and had a ball doing it! We learned new techniques using Paint Dabbers, Dylusions sprays and stamps, and other Ranger products, and created art journals, acrylic canvases, and tags using these techniques. The class was all smiles and ready to learn! Journal and Tag project (note ghosting technique) Watercolor paper journal using Dylusions inks and stamps We had so much fun making the Art Journal! (ReNae & Ann-Marie after class) A class member's old book altered with Dyan's inks and stamps. My large canvas project (using paint dabbers and stencils, pop cans, and sprays) In the canvas class I was impressed with everyone's finished products, as even though we all did basically the same thing, we all ended up with very different paintings! Each person selected TWO colors for their canvas Connie Riley stencils her canvas with gesso Gorgeous outcome! And she doesn't ever use blue and red! Stunning outcome! This was so BRIGHT in person! Connie Riley and Dyan Reaveley enjoy a moment after class! These classes were simply amazing! I would encourage you to pick some of Dyan's products up if you haven't already, and try out some of the techniques you can find by visiting Dyan on YouTube or Ranger's website. To see more images of Dyan's work and her quirky wonderful world, check out her BLOG here! My new painting looks great in my craft room! It fits right in! Happy Creating! ReNae p.s. Thank you Connie Riley for contributing some of these photos!

Oh yes its that exciting time of year again where we launch the first new products of the year, and I can't frikkin wait to show you mine, I'm sooooooo excited. First off we have two products that each of the signature designers have in their own signature colours. A fabulous palette of four Archival inks. Permanent, quick drying ink in the four colours I use the most. Black marbled Bubblegum Pink Calypso Teal Dirty Martini. Now we all know I'm not a glitter girl, but I do love a bit of shimmer, now and again. So here we have 3 of my favourite colours all ready to add a bit of glitz. Crushed Grape Vibrant Turquoise Bubblegum Pink And what about paint??? Oh go on then, six more of the colours from my spray ink line. Three from the cool colour palette and 3 from the warm colour palette. First the cools. After Midnight A gorgeous rich deep blue, almost purple Calypso Teal A bright refreshing blue Dirty Martini One of my favourite of all, a dirty musky green Then the warms Cherry Pie the cooler of the two reds Tangerine Dream A beautiful deep orange Pomegranate Seed A stunningly rich deep red almost burgundy AND....wait for it.... Oh crikey, my very own paint pens!!!!! Whoopy doopy doodhas!!! Finally I have a paint pen for all my doodling one in Black Marble and one in white linen Its got a fabulous fine tip, perfect for all my intricate stuff AND its water based, which is really important to me. Love love love my tags in the large sizes, 10 and 12, and have now added my Mixed Media cardstock into the range, which match the journal pages perfectly and , in my honest opinion, are THE only surface to ink on lol. He he you all know that my favourite things to work on are the journal pages, but not necessarily whilst in the journal, so I am forever tearing them out and sticking them back in. Now there is an easier way. Welcome to Dylusions Inclusions. Separate pages ready sized to stick in. Including rounded corners. How fabulous. We have them in mixed packs of Mixed Media Card stock, Kraft and Black. Available for the large journal Small journal And the square journal. Or you can take no notice and add whatever size to whatever journal lol. I just know you are going to love this next product as the craze for colouring books seem to be taking over the world, lol. Mine is a little different. They are colouring sheets that you can tear out and use in your own artwork and journals. Quality was extremely important to me and so they are printed on a top quality paper that my inks don't bleed through. The sheets are repros of some of the tags I design with my interpretations of my stamps. Perfect for anyone who isn't into stamping, but also invaluable for those who are Use the whole sheet or cut out the images separately. This next product, is just soooooo.... Oooooooh I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am with it. For years I have loved to collect small pieces of peoples art work, and postcards were the creme de la creme, because they are so versatile. I could collect and keep them for myself, Send them in the post, Give them in lieu of birthday cards, Add them to a gift, Frame them for wall art, Use them in art work, Or just plain old enjoy them. Printed on a really high quality glossy card, I hope you will love them as much as me. Another product I am so excited to see come to fruition are my canvas sheets, plain and printed. For a long, long time I have used these in my own artwork, especially any canvas art I have done. I am a seamstress at heart and so love to add bits of sewing in my art, but I also know many of you wont sew so we have made these sticky back for you. 8 designs of my original journal pages, were reduced in size to bring you the extremely useful pieces. Add them to your journals tags, cards and Mixed Media projects I've also brought you blank pieces in this handy size to match You can stamp on them, paint them, colour them, whatever you fancy. Of course, it wouldn't be Dylusions without stencils. Five stencils this time round, all background images, available in large and small. Bowl of Cherries who can't resist cherries in their art, not this 50's inspired girlie!!! Breeze of Birds Birds of all descriptions facing every which way you like. Fronds of Foliage Use as an allover background or pick out individual fronds Its raining Cats I couldn't resist including my beloved Boo into my work Stash of Tache I thought I might be over my 20 yr moustache obsession, but obviously not lol! Any one else notice how these could be wings as well? And, last but no way least, stamps. I have eight stamp sets this release, yes eight, I just couldn't narrow them down any less lol. First up Branching Out Large leaves to add to my collection and the most darling rosebuds. Doodle Blooms gorgeous doodled flowers and stems Fabulous for cutting and layering, or using as a whole. I Can See Clearly Collage originated bodies and who doesn't need more glasses and sunnies ? Oh Dear! 2 designs of heads to mix and match and I couldn't resist adding the adorable little Bambi Put a Bird on it. I just couldn't resist these quirky little birds that kept cropping up in my artwork, So here they are... The Eyes Have It. You can never have too many heads to play with, can you? These Boots are Made.. And if you have more heads then of course you need more bodies. Simples..!!! Ugh, People And of course it wouldn't be me with out my customary snarky word stamps. Who doesn't love a bit of snark? Phew, there we go, finally at the end. I hope you love all the releases as much as I do. I put my heart and soul into all my designs and work really hard to make the line cohesive for you all to use. I thank you for supporting what I do and for loving the eclectic quirkiness that is my nature. I have tons and tons and even more tons of samples to show you, incorporating all the above and more, so check back tomorrow to see where to start. I'd love to hear your comments on what you feel might become your favourites Enjoy xx
