Imagine... Spending years constructing this amazing Cathedral with a gigantic hole in the ceiling for a massive dome, knowing the technology, knowledge & skill did not actually exist to build the dome. About a hundred years passed before the dome was able to be designed & constructed by Brunelleschi. If you enjoy my work, please comment. The Intricate Duomo Cathedral, Milan -
Duomo Detail by Steven Nelson
A capture from a visit of the Duomo Di Milano in 2012. The cathedral was dedicated to Santa Maria Nascente and is also the seat of the Archbishop of Milan. Or, as Mark Twain put it, "So grand, so solemn, so vast! And yet so delicate, so airy, so graceful!"

Maria assunta in cielo. Cristo incorona Maria.

"I was inspired by the amount of history that each corner of this door carries, by the depth and refinement of the details and I wanted to reproduce this in my style."
Being the center of Catholicism, it’s no surprise that Italy is home to many of the world’s most beautiful churches. Here, we’ve handpicked our favorite ten Italian churches, from landmarks like St. Peter’s Basilica and the Milan Duomo, to lesser-known beauties in Sicily and Umbria that are worth a pilgrimage.
Architecture is meant to fulfill both practical and expressive requirements, and thus it serves both utilitarian and aesthetic purposes. When you look at a structure, you can distinguish these two ends but they cannot be separated, and the relative weight each of them carry can vary widely. Plus, every society has its own, unique relationship to the natural world and its architecture usually reflects that as well, allowing people from other places to learn about their environment, as well as history, ceremonies, artistic sensibility, and many aspects of daily life.
