Bignonia æquinoclialis plant. La Bignon de Cayenne. The native range of this species is Mexico to Tropical America. It is a liana and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome. It is used to treat unspecified medicinal disorders, has environmental uses and as a medicine. (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew). Original 1783 Large Decorative Copperplate engraving. Early on, Buchoz recognized the significance of Japanese & Chinese drawing techniques, and was the first to publish drawings by Asian artists, a good century before the passion for the Orient overtook Europe. This selection of original engravings comes from Herbier Artificiel from 1783, in the characteristic exotic style so distinctive of Buchoz. Good strong Print on hand made racked paper. There is a watermark in the paper. A very decorative Original large engraving. It will look very impressive once matted and framed. Page size is approximately 15 1/4" x 9 3/4" inches (39 x 25 cm's). Size to the plate mark is 12 3/4 x 8 1/4 inches. (32.5 x 21 cm's) Condition *********** Very Good condition. The Hand racked paper is a soft cream colour. There are soft creases and early dusty marks to the paper. There are a few small rust marks scattered in the paper. There is also some printers flecks in the border from the original copper plate.
