My first knitting design!! hehe but really a very simple one to start with! THE SQUIDGE CLOTH! A face cloth, dish cloth, gift cloth - use it as you will! The alternating rectangles of knit and purl give the ultimate squidge factor for a fabulously fondle-able cloth. Enjoy!! YARN: Any cotton or cotton blend yarn, I often use Anchor Magicline NEEDLES: Whichever required to obtain desired gauge, I use 3.5mm GAUGE: A nice tight gauge gives a good squidginess, and a cloth that won't stretch out too much when wet. I get a gauge of 22sts & 44 rows : 10cm/4 inches NOTIONS: Yarn needle, soapy sudsy water! Cast on 40 stitches. (or any multiple of 8) Row 1: *Knit 4, purl 4*, repeat between *s to end of row. Row 2: Repeat row 1. Row 3: *Purl 4, knit 4*, repeat between *s to end of row. Row 4: Repeat row 3. Repeat rows 1 - 4 until cloth is the desired size. Bind off all stitches reasonably loosely to allow for stretch. Sew in ends. Immerse in soapy sudsy water and enjoy your new squidgy cloth!! Hurrah! =D

Its amazing what can be created with an aluminum hook and a ball of string...But one of my favorite things to make with it is dishcloths. The tedious job of washing dishes may seem even less so, when you are washing them with one of theses crochet dishcloths.

Earlier in the week I shared with you my tutorial for the Crunch Stitch, and today I have a fun and re-usable pattern to go with it! I love to use my sweeper mop because of how easy it is. When I ran out of the disposable cloths that came with it I didn't want to buy more. I wanted to make something I could re-use. I googled for patterns and didn't find what I had pictured in my head to use. There are so many great patterns out there, but my favorite stitch for washing and scrubbing is the crunch stitch. So I decided to make my own. The texture in the crunch stitch is why I love it for cleaning and the look of the uniformed stitches is an extra bonus. There are few stitches involved making it a great project to whip up quickly while watching your favorite show. Because they make up fast and affordably they make great gifts and inventory for a craft fair! Below I have used 24/7 Cotton by Lion Brand, but I have also used I Love This Cotton by Hobby Lobby for them in the past. They both have a great color selection, the yarn doesn't fade as much or as quickly as others I've tried, and it's nice and soft to work with. I used one skein to make one mop cover and still had 1/4 of the skein left over! When completed, these mop covers measure 10 inches long and 5 inches wide. To add a little extra flair I wrapped mine in these fun printable labels from The Knotty Boss! They make it perfect for giving as a gift or displaying in your shop/craft fair! Materials - - 130 yards of worsted cotton yarn - 4mm crochet hook - Scissors - Tapestry needle to sew/weave in ends - Stitch markers (optional, they can come in handy to keep rows even) US Abbreviations - Ch - Chain HDC - Half double crochet Sl st - Slip stitch SC - Single crochet Gauge - 22 rows should be a 5" x 5" square, adjust your hook size accordingly if your sample swatch is a different size (Example: Try going up a hook size if your swatch is smaller; Go down a hook size if your swatch is bigger.) Mop Cover- Chain 25 Row 1: *HDC in the 2nd ch from your hook, sl st in the next*, *repeat until the end of the row, ch 1 and turn (24 stitches) NOTE- Each row will always start with an HDC and end with a slip stitch. It can be handy to put a stitch marker in the last stitch of each row, this way when you reach the end you will easily see where your last stitch will go. Row 2: *HDC in the first stitch, sl st in the next*, *repeat until the end of the row, ch 1 and turn (24 stitches) Rows 3-76: Repeat row 2 Your work should measure 16 inches long by 5 inches wide. Do not fasten off, continue with border below. Border- SC around each of the four sides of your work, completing 2 SC in each corner. Assembly - Fold each side in 3 inches and sew the edges together to create a pocket. I sewed down through the stitches and back up the next to give it a nice layered look. Weave in your ends. Your mop cover is complete! My favorite way to use mine is to spray a small amount of my favorite cleaner onto the floor in front of me and then mop right over! I hope you have enjoyed making this pattern. Feel free to tag me on Instagram, I'd love to see your mop covers!
