The students also learned how to blend colors and how to choose which colors to blend together.
Decorating for a fifteen table Ladies Luncheon, with a non-existent budget can be pretty challenging. You rely on a whole lot of creativity and imagination! The luncheon was a fund-raising event for an upcoming Crusade in our community, so it was understandable that it had to be done on the cheap. ...but still, I was aiming for fresh and pretty! :) Knowing that real flowers would be pricey, I set out to Michaels for {inexpensive} inspiration. Perusing the clearance aisles, I came across the flower clips below, originally $2.00 for a pack of 2, marked down to $.80! Now these I could work with... I had six vintage blue Ball jars in my stash on hand... ...so to fill in the other nine needed and to add a little interest, I bought glass vases from the Dollar Tree and added extra fine aqua glitter to the bottoms. Short branches were spray painted with Krylon Maxx Aqua Matte, to add to each table with the vases. The theme of the luncheon was... Inspire. I printed off Inspire tags on the computer in different fonts, and clipped one to each vase/jar. The vases/jars were filled with shrub greens, including gardenia which has a beautiful waxy, "florist" finish to them. The church's white tablecloths were paired with turquoise burlap table runners, also very economical! Combined with an online sale price and additional coupon code, the 108" table runners were purchased at Tablecloths Factory.com for around $2.70 each. The luncheon committee requested a few tables to be set up for speaker product and for the upcoming crusade materials and information. My friend and decorating partner, Julia, put together a vase of sunflowers grown on her farm, in a gallon vintage blue jar, to dress up that area. And for one more little extra added touch, we borrowed chairs, tables, lamps, and accessories from around the church to create a staging area for the speaker, Ann Platz. As I mentioned, the very inspiring speaker of the luncheon was, Ann Platz. Some of you Atlanta bloggers and decorators may be very familiar with her. Mrs. Platz is a noted interior designer, author, and speaker. I was sitting at the back of the room, and unfortunately did not get a good picture of her presentation. A friend gave me one of Platz's books a few Christmases ago, and it is a wonderful devotional read! The luncheon setting was not a grand one, we certainly stretched a dollar decorating, ...but it turned out sweet, simple, and refreshing! Just goes to show, you don't always have to spend a lot to make a nice impact! :) ~Rhonda _____________________________ Sharing Post At: A Delightsome Life - Home & Garden Thursday From My Front Porch to Yours - Treasure Hunt Thursday Common Ground - Share Your Style Rattlebridge Farm - Foodie Friday and Everything Else AKA Design - Weekend Retreat Link Party Dwellings - Amaze Me Monday Coastal Charm - Show and Share

Jim Dine is a graphic artist, painter and sculptor associated with pop art. In the first of three posts on his work I am taking a general overview of his output. The next two feature 'dressing gowns' (robes) and 'hearts' respectively. Dine was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1935. He studied at the University of Cincinnati, the Boston Museum School, and in 1957 received a bachelor of fine arts degree from Ohio University. After graduation, he moved to New York City and became involved with a circle of artists including Robert Rauschenberg, Claes Oldenburg, and Roy Lichtenstein, all of whose work moved away from abstract expressionism toward pop art. Like other pop artists, Dine incorporated images of everyday objects in his art, but he diverged from the coldness and impersonal nature of pop art by making works that fused personal passions and everyday experiences. His repeated use of familiar and personally significant objects, such as a robe, hands, tools, and hearts, are signature icons in his art. In his early work, Dine created mostly assemblages in which he attached actual objects to his painted canvases, as in Shoes Walking on My Brain (1960). From 1959 to 1960, Dine also was a pioneer of happenings, works of art that took the form of theatrical events or demonstrations. In 1967 Dine and his family moved to London, England, where he devoted his energies to printmaking and drawing. When he returned to the United States in 1971, he concentrated on figure drawing. Dine is considered among the most accomplished draftsmen of his generation, and is known for his series of self-portraits and portraits of his wife, Nancy. Dine's attention turned to sculptural work in the early 1980s when he created sculptures based on the ancient sculpture Venus de Milo. His recent art uses imagery borrowed from ancient Greek, Egyptian, and African objects. 1960 Car Crash #4 1960 Crash 1962 Scissors 1962 Toothbrush and Tumbler 1966 Toolbox 1966 Toolbox (2) 1968 Hose Lamp from The Picture of Dorian Gray lithograph 1973 Nutcracker 1973 Untitled graphite 1976 Paris Smiles in the Darkness 1976 The Skier 1978 Strelitzia 1980 Tree (The Kimono) 1984 Red Grease charcoal, pastel, oil-stick 1993 Woman on Fire in Vienna etching 1994 For Athena 1999 Bird of Paradise 2004 Big Winter Breathing lithograph 2005 Amayllis IV 2007 Blue Taco
