Artist Guy Laramee creates amazing miniature book landscapes out of old books, dictionaries and encyclopedias. His series entitled The Great Wall and Biblios represent the degradation of human culture and show glacial landscapes, deep valleys and plateaus.
Continuing to amaze us with his elaborate dictionary and encyclopedia carvings, Guy Laramée‘s (previously here and here) newest works feature deep caverns and valleys that retreat hundreds of pages down into his excavated books. One in particular, “V,” appears like a snowcapped vortex circling down into an endless pit. Viewing this piece, or any of his mountainous works, it’s hard to imagine that their material is stacked and sandblasted paper, the sheets presented more like layers of earth than printed definitions. I have been collecting vintage books, children's books, atlases, notepads and other interesting papers I use for my junk journals for a while. Now I have a lot of paper! I decided to pull some pages from a range of sources and create a packet of supplies for someone seeking a little variety or maybe just starting to create junk journals or collages with vintage papers. This packet contains over 70 items, which includes pages from atlases and maps, music paper, a 1970s yearbook, a 1953 German engineering book, a vintage book about knitting, a 1960s flower arranging book, several dictionaries and encyclopedias (1940s and 1970s), a book in Finnish, a cookbook, several children's books with illustrations (including Richard Scarry and Beatrix Potter), bridge score pads, flashcards, receipts, a library card, a page from the phone book, memo pads, cocktail recipes, Japanese vocabulary cards, a statistical text and numerous novels from all over the 20th Century. This is a great price for so many pages and such a variety. Most papers are in excellent condition; a few have minor tears, stains or creases. I hope you will enjoy the variety and uniqueness of this packet. Thanks for visiting my shop! Copyright © Theresa a.k.a. Tias Junk Paper Etc., 2024
