The Nyhavn Desk is named after designer Finn Juhl’s first studio, which was located at Nyhavn 33 in Copenhagen. When Finn Juhl established his first studio at this address he designed a very simple desk with burnished steel legs, a detail which came to shape his furniture design during the 1950s.The Nyhavn Desk comes with three coloured storage trays which hang below the main desk area, creating a practical and stylish organisation space. Available in a pair of sizes, The Nyhavn Desk & Tray Unit offers a simple yet highly elegant design that can be used individually in a home or office space, or clustered in a group in a larger working area.
This early Chieftain chair by Finn Juhl is one of his absolute masterpieces. This particular model comes in original leather and teak.

Chair designed by Finn Juhl in 1946, relaunched in 2018. Manufactured by House of Finn Juhl in Denmark. This chair is an example of Finn Juhl’s most beautiful work. It was originally designed in 1946 for the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition for master cabinetmaker Niels Vodder. In 1953, Finn Juhl modified the chair into a simpler, more aerodynamic version for the furniture manufacturer Bovirke. It is this later version, that we have relaunched. n this version, Finn Juhl clearly attempted to emphasize the lightness of the chair by separating the carried and the carrying elements. Similar to the Chieftain Chair and the 45 Chair, the 46 Chair represents the very best of modern Danish furniture design. Thanks to modern technology the relaunched version is manufactured in an outstanding quality with stronger joints than the original. He wished to study art history, however, his father would not allow it. Instead, Finn Juhl began studying architecture at the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. Here, he studied under some of the most influential functionalists of his time. Among these was the great architect Vilhelm Lauritzen who hired Finn Juhl at his own studio in 1934 before Finn Juhl had even graduated. Eventually, the work took up all of his time and Finn Juhl never finished his studies. Later in life he always described himself as a self-taught furniture designer. One of the international highlights of Finn Juhl’s career was designing the complete interior of the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the UN headquarters in New York between 1951 and 1952. His sculptural furniture is widely appreciated all-over the world. Today, Finn Juhl is still considered the father of Danish Modern, the design movement from Denmark, that arose during the 1950s in the United States. At the time of his death in 1989, Finn Juhl had become an award-winning and highly respected international furniture artist. Finn Juhl was greatly inspired by both modernism in art and functionalism in architecture. His genius was cross-pollinating these two fields, thus creating a completely new artistic idiom. Like sculptures, Finn Juhl’s designs are created to stand freely in a room. At the same time, they are developed with a playful insight into the practical function of every detail. About the manufacturer: In 2001 House of Finn Juhl trusted with the exclusive rights to manufacture and relaunch Finn Juhl’s sculptural and iconic furniture by Finn Juhl’s widow Hanne Wilhelm Hansen. Today the unique Finn Juhl collection consists of more than 40 Classic masterpieces, all of which they manufacture with the utmost respect for the original heritage and strict demands for quality.

Built in 1942, the legendary home remains one of the greatest masterpieces of Danish design.
Finn Juhl Chieftain Chair. Finn Juhl (1912-89) designed the chair in 1948. The "Chieftain" is Juhl's most famous design. It was named the "Chieftain" after King Frederik IX sat in the display model at the 1949 Cabinetmaker's Guild in Copenhagen. The chair was influenced by tribal art. Unlike minimalist chairs, like the Barcelona Chair, the Chieftain is built for comfort (indeed, you feel like a king when you sit in it). Fewer than 80 of the original chairs were produced by the Danish furniture maker, Niels Vodder. Baker Furniture produced it under license from Finn Juhl in the 1950s and then re-released it briefly in the 1990s. Current production versions of the chair are now being produced by Hansen & Sorensen in Denmark. This chair is an unmarked Baker, with Spinneybeck Prima leather added by Daniel Donnelly in Alexandria, Virginia to match one of the colors used in the original chairs. To the right is a Moebius Table from Design Within Reach and a vintage midcentury lamp.

"Watercolours" zeigt eine Auswahl der kunstvollen Zeichnungen und Pläne vom dänischen Designer Finn Juhl
Juhl painted this watercolor rendering of the house in 1968, more than 25 years after the house was finished. The site plan of the property shows a separate building that was supposed to house Juhl's design studio. The plan was never realized and the bedroom facing west was expanded instead.
Up for grabs since 2003, Finn Juhl’s residence is now part of an unusual museum complex.
The chair, called the Grasshopper, didn't sell at all when it was introduced in 1937.
