"The advent of the internet has put collecting life masks into the hands of many people outside the film industry; I have personally acquired some of these life masks from various internet sources and have been extremely disappointed with the quality and the distortion (shrinkage etc.) of these castings. The average person outside the film industry doesn't have studio grade life masks to compare their castings with. With over 30 years of selectively collecting life masks it has always been my goal to obtain the highest quality masks available. Not only have I been a collector I am also a Hollywood life mask artist who has created some of the castings that exist in private collections, museums and have been used in the production of many of the major Hollywood films which I have worked on. My professional experience gives me the insight and the ability to compare similar castings and grade them on their detail, shrinkage and distortion. It is my goal and my passion to always make the highest quality life masks possible and it is my pleasure to share these casts with the discriminating life mask collector." -William Forsche "Please honor my request not to make copies of this casting or other Forsche Design castings for resale or offer it to others that won?t honor this request. I understand the possible need to create a piece utilizing different materials as part of your own project, this is of course fine and as an artist I encourage "new" artistic expression. I just ask that you don?t sell exact copies of these castings which I have put much time and effort to acquire and maintain over the years." -William Forsche

Mask Bembes ref:229 Congo. weight: 800gr. Size: 37*28*19 XX century Of all the cultures around the world, one of the most enigmatic and interesting is African. And within this culture, it is impossible not to think of the iconic African masks, which are present in war, religion and others. If there is something we can rescue from African art, it is their masks. Africa is a complex continent. Usually, in the West we have the belief that it is a single country, without major complexity, attractiveness or surprise. However, once the anthropological microscope is applied, it is seen that the continent not only has a variety of countries, but also cultures. Masks, for these tribes, were more than just an artistic piece. They were true divine representations, forms that try to capture (metaphorically and literally) the essence of some entity. It can be a spirit or something else. We must understand that African masks are inextricably linked to their function. It is common to find in African culture with traditions based on the execution of rituals. A ritual obeys different reasons. It is an attempt by man to capture an aspect of reality through his own productions. With these masks rituals are made in order to interact and change climatic phenomena, fertility, births and death.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER – The true story behind Jon Krakauer’s bestselling novel and Sean Penn’s acclaimed film Into the Wild, from the sister of Chris McCandless, filling in questions about Chris’ journey of self-discovery and the dysfunctional childhood that pushed him to brave the Alaskan wilderness alone"The Wild Truth is an important book on two fronts: It sets the record straight about a story that has touched thousands of readers, and it opens up a conversation about hideous domestic violence hidden behind a mask of prosperity and propriety."–NPR.orgThe spellbinding story of Chris McCandless, who gave away his savings, hitchhiked to Alaska, walked into the wilderness alone, and starved to death in 1992, fascinated not just New York Times bestselling author Jon Krakauer, but also the rest of the nation. Krakauer's book, Into the Wild, became an international bestseller, translated into thirty-one languages, and Sean Penn's inspirational film by the same name further skyrocketed Chris McCandless to global fame. But the real story of Chris’s life and his journey has not yet been told - until now. The missing pieces are finally revealed in The Wild Truth, written by Carine McCandless, Chris's beloved and trusted sister. Featured in both the book and film, Carine has wrestled for more than twenty years with the legacy of her brother's journey to self-discovery, and now tells her own story while filling in the blanks of his. Carine was Chris's best friend, the person with whom he had the closest bond, and who witnessed firsthand the dysfunctional and violent family dynamic that made Chris willing to embrace the harsh wilderness of Alaska. Growing up in the same troubled household, Carine speaks candidly about the deeper reality of life in the McCandless family. In the many years since the tragedy of Chris's death, Carine has searched for some kind of redemption. In this touching and deeply personal memoir, she reveals how she has learned that real redemption can only come from speaking the truth.

However, once the anthropological microscope is applied, it is seen that the continent not only has a variety of countries, but also cultures. Each people has its own history, of which they have an important oral tradition that still persists today. One of the most used traditions, regardless of their quality, is the use of African masks. In Africa, masks have functions that are a little closer to the symbolic, to the significant. They are usually used in the celebration of certain rituals.
