Signed stoneware teapot, elegant in it's simplicity. Made and signed by Tim Andrews who studied under David Leach . Time Andrews work has been displayed all over the world. It is glazed in cream and russet in a swirling design. Both sides are adorned with a simple, but lovely, black bramble motif. The handle is large and fits the oiece beautifully. Overall the teapot has very modern styling and seems to have it's roots in a very Japanese Zen style. The condition is excellent and it does not appear to have ever been used. At the base on the edge of the foot is Mr. Andrew's mark "TA". 7-1/2" high 10" Spout to handle 7" bowl at widest The fine print: Item is in used-vintage condition as noted and/or shown. Photos represent condition as accurately as possible, shot in natural light and free of retouching. My items are salvaged from various estate sales, so they are in as-is condition. A gorgeous, hand thrown, stoneware jug decorated with loose brushwork in a rich, dark, tenmokuyu iron glaze design on a light oatmeal glaze that shows the flecks and personality of the clay. I cannot find a maker's mark, but it is without doubt made by Robert Tinnyunt and David Leach (son of David Leach of leach Pottery, St Ives, Cornwall) at Lowerdown Pottery in Bovey Tracey, Devon, England between 1967 and 1970. Use it for milk or cream or perhaps for a drop of water for a dram, it would even look gorgeous with flowers. In excellent, clean, vintage condition. Super little jug, just over four inches high and very cute, by Ken Taylor of Penhouet Poterie, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. It's beautifully handthrown on stoneware clay with a handpainted brown leaf patern in a style reminiscent of David Leach, on a clear glazed body. On the rim of the spout there is a microscopic area where the glaze hasn't taken: you can only really make it out by feel and you probably wouldn't even notice if I didn't tell you. The Holden's Solar Flair Rhododendron is the broadleaf evergreen variety gardeners have been looking for. Vintage c1955 Mid Century David Leach Aylesford Studio Pottery Small Lidded Bowl Pot | Collectible Sculptural Art Kitchenalia | Retro Kitchen As per final two photos does come with tiny flea bites: one to the lid exterior rim and second inner rim to the lid as well. Other than that the actual inner surface of the pot does not even seem used so potentially these marks are storage and age related from over the years rather than use. Some lovely weight to it. In overall much loved and preserved pristine vintage condition. Comes with no other flaws or defects, only shows traces of use. Beautifully and expertly made- incredible skill, quality and craftsmanship. Light wear consistent with age. It is approx 70 years old. Dimensions: - Width 17cm - Height 11cm - Diameter 14.5cm - Weight 894grams David Leach was born in Tokyo in 1911, and was first taught to pot not by his father Bernard, but by Shoji Hamada. He studied at North Staffs Technical College and in 1930 joined the Leach Pottery where he stayed, on and off, for twenty-five years. He helped the family business in artistic, practical, technical and managerial capacities. In 1953 he headed the ceramics department of Loughborough College. He started the Aylesford Pottery in 1954, handing it over a year later to Colin Pearson. After the handover of Aylesford Pottery he moved to Bovey Tracey in Devon and set up Lowerdown Pottery. He was awarded the O.B.E in 1987, and is important for his development of porcelain suitable for studio pottery and his services to education. David died in February, 2005. His three sons; John, Jeremy and Simon are all potters. For environmental purposes and in line with our business ethos we reuse packaging where possible.
