CARL HANSEN & SØN CH07 SHELL CHAIR - OAK An architectural masterpiece Variant shown: oak, veneer, white oil When Hans J. Wegner introduced the design of the CH07 Shell Chair in 1963, many critics were enthusiastic about the avant-garde look, but the general public was reluctant to accept the distinctive expression. The mixed reviews in the 1960s and the poorly developed production techniques of the time resulted in very limited production. When Carl Hansen & Søn relaunched the Shell Chair in 1998, it almost immediately gained widespread public recognition thanks to interest from a new generation. The floating lightness of the design is achieved by the wing-like seat and the curved backrest, which is supported by a frame with three curved legs. The chair's signature seat and backrest are made from padded, molded veneer, providing generous comfort to the user. The laminated legs of the chair consist of several layers of veneer, the two front legs are made from a single element, which creates a unique and stable shape. The Shell Chair is a clear manifestation of Wegner's belief that a chair should always be comfortable, have no back and be beautiful from all sides and angles.
