It's that time of year again when many of us begin the New Year by fasting to benefit in mind, body and spirit. We've decided to try the Daniel Fast.
This includes a couple of options for review. For preschool, we talked about doing what God wants. That includes taking care of their bodies. Our Bible study today is found in the Old Testament Book of Daniel. A new king came to Jerusalem and took over the city. He was King Nebuchadnezzar, the King of Babylon. King Nebuchadnezzar told his man in charge to bring some of the young men that were from Jerusalem to Babylon for 3 years of training. The young men had to be able to learn the language and be quick to understand new things. They had to be good-looking and smart. After the training, they would serve the king. Some of the young men were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. Their names were changed to: Daniel=Belteshazzar (but he is still called Daniel all through the book), Hananiah=Shadrach, Mishael=Meshach, Azariah=Abed-Nego Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego were given some of the king’s delicacies to eat and wine to drink. Daniel didn’t want to eat that kind of food. Daniel asked for vegetables to eat and water to drink for 10 days instead. Daniel asked the man in charge if he would look at them after the 10 days to see how they looked compared to the other young men after eating the vegetables. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego were healthier than the other young men that ate the king’s provisions. Of course, they looked better, so the king’s man gave everyone the vegetables to eat instead. God was with Daniel and his friends, and they were given wisdom. God gave Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego ‘knowledge and skill in all literature”. God gave Daniel the ability to understand people’s visions and dreams. When Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego were taken before King Nebuchadnezzar, he questioned them and “none were found” like them! They were chosen to serve the king. When the king questioned them, they were ten times better than the king’s men in all areas of wisdom and understanding! They were faithful to God and God was with them. We used the plates and stickers below and the foldable booklet. This is a simple print, fold and use and great for review. It includes color and black & white. Click here to download. Scripture is Daniel 1. For this week's review project, I purchased color paper plates and these vegetable stickers at my local teacher's supply store. I also found these food stickers. I drew a slanted line on the plate. They put their vegetable stickers on the paper plate and we talked about the foods Daniel and his friends ate. Then, we gave them the food stickers and they had to decide if it was a vegetable. The vegetables could go with the other stickers, but the assorted food stickers were on the other side of the plate. We discussed different foods and taking care of our bodies. Simple and they love stickers! We also took some vegetables and bottled water as part of the lesson. The file includes Daniel 1-3. All are not shown. Click here to download the pictures to color. (These are the same as the visuals but are black & white.) Bible ABC's: V is for Vegetables Daniel, Shadrach, Meshack and Abed-Nego in Daniel 1:12 These lessons can be used without the alphabet theme. Consider these an update with new ideas and printables! This easy to make and use Flip Book has the color and black & white. The Spinner Wheel's are fun for kids and easy to prep. Add vegetable stickers for more fun. There is not much to find on vegetables, so there I included the picture to color and a picture with mazes . A crossword and word search are included and have the teacher's answer sheets and a vegetables color by number code. The first is a Reader Worksheet. The wording from the scripture is as easy to read as possible with sight words while keeping to the key points with easy to answer questions. The second is a fill-in-the-blank worksheet. Color and black & white are included for both. I designed the Trip Strip to be a cut & glue timeline. This one shown has lines for the students to write about each event. Or, they can write the scriptures. There is another worksheet without the writing space. These can easily be used for mixed age groups. Cut and glue according to directions. This is not included in the application pack. Click here to download. These Event Cards can be used as smaller visuals and they can be shuffled for the student to re-tell the events and lay them in order. The same full-page size visuals and pictures-to-color can be downloaded below. There are alphabet mazes and worksheets included. These are half-sheets and can be used in Interactive Notebooks. Click here to see a free video on how to make and use Interactive Notebooks. There is a set of 5 and 10 piece puzzles. Click here to download the lesson and application printables. Comparison of Daniel Smith paints vs how other brands have made similar color mixtures. I will be covering multiple granulating and color separating watercolors like Shadow Violet and Imperial Purple, but my next YouTube video will concentrate specifically on Moonglow vs Roman Szmal's Przybysz's Grey, Da Vinci Artemis and Paul Rubens Shadow Purple (not to be confused with Ruben's Moonlight Purple which confusingly imitates DS Shadow Violet, but more about that in the next video). I've noticed some misinformation being shared about these paints, passing along the manufacturers LFI lightfast rating without question, and doing limited side by side comparisons that aren't in-depth enough to get a good picture of the differences between these colors. I tried very hard to go in depth with my studies to better inform artists about the issues with these paints. I'll also be covering some experiments with mixing my own lightfast version! PR177 is known to fade in tints/diluted with an estimated LFIII rating in watercolor. Unfortunately ASTM has rated it LFI in masstone (likely from a test using thick acrylic or oil paint) and this is passed on to watercolor consumers. This is an example of why I now do lightfast testing of both masstone and diluted ranges for all colors. In just 6 months PR177 starts to fade away to nothing when diluted (compare that to multiple years of daily window light for lightfast colors). It's just as bad as opera pink and alizarin crimson that most people know as fugitive. More about fugitive colors, lightfast test results and other art supply reviews can be found here. Happy painting, Kimberly I purchase my paints on Amazon, Blick, Jackson's and Ali Express. As an Amazon associate I earn from qualifying purchases. OR OR
