Don’t ask me to pronounce it and don’t ask me to touch it, but I’ll tell you what a unique plant it is and that it has tasty fruit. The first time I saw Solanum quitoense (Naranjilla) was last September at the amazing Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, ME in their Burpee Kitchen Garden. It was in a pot with other fascinating, prehistoric-looking plants. I thought it was one of the coolest plants I had ever seen. I bought my Solanum quitoense plant from the Unusual Tropical and Annuals Sale at The Scott Arboretum at Swarthmore College in the spring. I potted it up in a big, blue pot and put it in a semi-shady spot in the kitchen garden. It was in either a three or six inch pot when I bought it and it obviously was happy in my big, blue pot and grew and grew. It is a dangerous-looking plant with large, purple spikes running along the veins of every one of the large leaves. Not the kind of plant to be triffled with. The stems are even more scary-looking because they are literally covered in thorns. The flower buds and flowers are soft and fuzzy, though, and even the leaves themselves are delicate and somewhat soft to the touch. This is certainly a plant of contrasts. From what I was reading, it is fairly common to have issues getting your Solanum quitoense to fruit. One thing I read said it can take six months. No problems like that here, mine has had fruit almost all season. The un-ripe fruit is green and covered in fuzzy little hairs. Once the fruit ripens it turns a bright and cheery yellow color. Be careful trying to pick it, though, because you might get stabbed by all of the thorns around it! I have to admit I was a bit nervous sampling the fruit from such a strange and threatening plant. However, I read that the juice from this unique and rare fruit from the Andes is considered “Nectar of the Gods.” Who can resist that??? To eat it, you wash off any leftover fuzzy hairs, cut it into sections and suck out the insides (or squeeze them out). You don’t eat the thick, tough skin. It has been described as tasting “sweet and sour,” or like “citrus,” “kiwi,” or a cross between “rhubard and lime,” or “pineapple and lemon.” I personally would describe it as being a somewhat tart combination of kiwi and lemon. Very intriguing. According to Annie’s Annuals, a plant can bear fruit for four years. It is a frost-tender plant, so I decided it was too cool and unusual to let it get killed off by frost and moved the whole pot into the greenhouse. That’s something my physical therapist probably wouldn’t have approved of considering how big it is, but to me it’s worth it for such a stand-out garden specimen. It’s a definite keeper.

WOW! This is a clean & simple card that I made last night. I love the way it turned out! It is bright & cheery & could be used for many different occasions. The black in this DSP just pops with the splash of colors added to it with the flower/leaf images. This DSP is the Daffodil Afternoon DSP that is a Sale-a-bration choice & you can get it for FREE with a $50 product order. How did I do it? Look how I layered the words........ 1. I stamped them onto a 2" strip of Very Vanilla card stock & punch it out using the Tailored Tag Punch. 2. I then used Basic Black card stock & punch out 2 Tailored Tag pieces. 3. NOTICE how I cut them using my scissors. One of them I cut in half vertically. And one of them I cut in half horizontally. 4. I then layered them behind the words. This is what it looks like from the back side when all layered together. *NOTE that I did snip off a little bit of the Basic Black card stock from each end of the Tailored Tag Punch once I got it layered together. This way there are even edges all the way around the layered words as shown above. I added the DSP strip along the inside edge of the card & it shows from the front then when the card is shut. Here are the supplies & measurements. stamp set: 'Special Moments'- Sale-a-bration choice & FREE with a $100 product order card stock: Old Olive- 5 1/2 x 7 1/2"- score at 4 1/4" & fold for card base Old Olive- 3/8 x 3 1/4" Basic Black- 2" strip- punch out 2 pieces with the Tailored Tag Punch. Cut & layer behind the words as shown above. I hope everyone is having a good Monday! I was hoping a "Springy" card would warm me up on a very cold Minnesota day... I saw a pocket card on Pinterest using the Daffodil Afternoon DSP(definitely "Springy DSP) from the Sale Bration catalog (January 4th- February 28th 2022). I fell in love with the design. I turned the pocket card into a regular card. I will be using this design with other DSP and stamp sets for sure!! The sentiment is also from the Sale a bration catalog (special moments). Daffodil Delight with Daffodil Dies Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. We are working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order. This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a bright yellow called Daffodil Delight. Daffodil Delight is part of the Brights Colour Family and is a happy clear yellow. This colour is lovely when used for flowers (including but not limited to daffodils) and so much more. It goes with different greens (including Pear Pizzazz) and with Pool Party, etc. It is also great with Gold. Daffodil Delight is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads, Classic spots & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Markers; Water-colour Pencils; Stampin' Blends; Soft Pastels, Brights Designer Series Paper as well as Hues of Happiness & Design a Daydream DSPs; plus Light the Candles & Kindness Card Kits; Glossy Dots Assortment; and Today is the Day Memories & More Card Pack. Here is my card showcasing Daffodil Delight: As I was thinking about and designing this card I also watched Cindy Schuster of The Crafty Carrot Co during their free August series of Facebook Lives. Cindy designed a gorgeous card with the layout shown below. I so loved her card and have CASEd her layout while using completely different products and colours. The Crafty Carrot Co gals are all brilliant and share so many tips and tricks as well as delightful ways to use Stampin' Up! products. Seeing some daffodils when walking with Gemma (my fur family), I decided to use the obvious choice of daffodils to show the bright and happy Daffodil Delight. To apply ink to paper with a different method than used when previously creating with the Daffodil dies, I swiped my Daffodil Delight Classic ink pad over some Shimmery White card-stock. The coloured panel was sprinkled with water to add extra texture. Another piece of Shimmery White card-stock was coloured with Pear Pizzazz ink in the same way. Once the panels were dry, the various dies were used to create the bud, full daffodil and side-view daffodil plus coordinating leaves and stems. A small round label was cut from Basic White card-stock using the Labels Aglow dies in readiness for the sentiment. A large circle die from the Stylish Shapes dies was used to cut a circular hole from a spare piece of card-stock. This was used as a mask over a piece of Shimmery White card-stock and Pool Party Classic ink was blended through the hole using Stampin' Up!s amazing Blending Brush. The panel was then passed through the gorgeous Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder before being splattered using a Pear Pizzazz Marker. Two thin strips of the Daffodil Delight coloured card-stock were adhered to each side of the embossed panel and then adhered directly to a Basic White Thick card-stock card base. One of the special aspects of Cindy's creation was the large circle of layered torn coloured card-stock. It had a delightful scenic feel. While I added a blended circle rather than Cindy's torn layered scene I did add a couple of torn layers of Vellum card-stock. The daffodil and leaf pieces were arranged using either Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Dimensionals. As I need some specific birthday sentiments, a sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set was stamped in Mossy Meadow ink onto the smaller die cut label. A little Pool Party ink was blended over the edges of the label. A bow was tied with sliced (in half) White Glittered Organdy Ribbon and Gold Simply Elegant Trim and tucked between the daffodils and the label. A few Brushed Brass Butterflies were scattered around and a splattering of Wink Of Stella add a little shimmer. Left over leaf/stem and bud were adhered to a Basic White card inner plus a couple of thin strips of the Daffodil Delight coloured paper were added on each side. A C6 Basic White envelope was stamped on one edge with daffodils in Daffodil Delight ink. Thank you so much for dropping by. I do value the time you spent with me.
