Curious George, everyone's favorite monkey! Well he is definitely my sons and for a 2 year old boy, he is a perfect birthday theme! My son loves the Curious George show on PBS every morning so this was a great choice. With lots of free images online, PBS made my work easy. I first thought up what i wanted to do at the party them made a list of everything I would need to design such as the invitation, signs for any games, favor tags, a banner, etc. I started with the invites.. Invitations.. To start with the Invite, I found an image I liked with a birthday cake, seemed appropriate. I downloaded it and filled in the colors I wanted. I used adobe photoshop to design and add my sons name onto the cake. I filled in the rest with balloons and stripes and designed the front. The back would be mostly text and just a couple of images. I also used the Curious George head image for the address labels on the envelopes. There are a ton of black n white images you can use to design your own invites. It's very easy and fun if you have access to an art program. If not, you can find many artists to help you on Etsy. Next Post is Decorating and Food!

It's almost never easy to keep a preschool-aged child busy. We know it, mama, and we're here to help. Download the activity book at the end of this slideshow, and then print it out and tuck it in your purse. It will come in handy when you need to keep the kiddos busy (or just really need some peace and quiet).
Is it for PARTIES? Is it FREE? Is it CUTE? Has QUALITY? It´s HERE! Oh My Fiesta!

The great part about this theme is that with such a large selection of books, you can make almost any activity tie in! We made photo copies of Curious George book covers to go along with the activites we had planned. After taping the image to a pinwheel, we stuck them in cleaned (labels removed) Starbuck's Frappaccino bottles to stand up. We glued an image of George to the front of the bottle, and stuffed it with blue tissue paper. Some of the stations were organized activities, others were free play. Here are the stations we had, along with the signs used (click on the link to see the image) -Musical Instruments sign: CG at the Parade or CG Parade Day Have a basket of musical instruments- enough for each child to get one (tambourines, bells, drums, kazoos, etc.) March around the yard with the birthday child leading the parade. -Feeding/petting goats sign: CG Feeds the Animals Petting zoo with any animals you may own, or even stuffed animals. We had goats for the children to pet & feed. Feeding Goats -Kite building sign: CG Flies a Kite Purchase blank kites and have children use sharpies to make their own design & color them. A bit of advice- try putting them together ahead of time. We somehow ended up with two different kinds of assembly, and they were a little bit tricky! Kite Making Flying Kites Making Kites -Pinata sign: Curious George Pinata Party Pinata Pinata -Tee Ball sign: CG at the Baseball Game Tee Ball -Curious George Movie on TV sign: CG goes to a Movie -Dress Up area sign: CG goes to a Costume Party Get out all of those old Halloween costumes! Make sure you have a variety of sizes for the children invited. -Dinosaurs sign: CG Dinosaur Discovery or CG & the Dinosaur Set up an area with plastic dinosaurs to play with. Dinosaur Play Area -Bowling sign: CG goes Bowling You could set up any toy bowling set, but I found this really cute monkey bowling set! -Train set sign: CG takes a Train or CG at the Railroad Station Create a play area with wooden or plastic train sets. -Sandbox sign: CG goes to the Beach -Tumbling/climbing Area sign: image of CG doing a forward roll Put out gym mats, crawling tunnels, and any climbing toys/equipment for children to play. -Monkeying Around game Use game as a centerpiece on the kids table. If you have more than one table, other good ones to use would be Tumblin' Monkey game, or Barrel of Monkeys Monkeying Around game in center of table -Monkey Mouth game sign: CG Goes to the Dentist I don't know if Discovery Toys still makes this game, but it's a cute concept where you take playdoh & make teeth for the plastic monkey. -Storytime- Before lunch (pizza) we read "Curious George & the Pizza Parlor" Other CG books were scattered around for reading. More CG Books for kids to read -Pin the Banana on George Print up bananas with each child's name. Pin the Banana on George -Limbo We used Giraffalaff Limbo game. Below is the flow of our party. We were lucky that the weather was nice, so we could do many activities outside. As children arrived, they were able to do some of the indoor free play stations. Dinosaurs Monkey Mouth Monkeying Around Game Dress up Storytime (CG and the Pizza Parlor) Lunch Go outside for activities: Kite Building Kite flying Parade- Musical Instruments March to Feed Goats Baseball Go inside for cake- sing Happy Birthday Pin the Banana on George Limbo Pinata & outside free play Free Play (outside) Bowling Tumbling / Jungle Gym Sandbox Trains Additional game ideas: Hide & Seek (CG Finds a Friend, CG Hide & Seek) Seed/Flower Planting (CG plants a Seed or CG plants a tree) Ride on vehicles/bikes (CG Rides a Bike) Tent or smores making (CG goes Camping) Scavenger Hunt (CG Lost & Found) Elefun (image of CG with butterflies) Finger Painting (image of CG with paint) Musical Chairs Paper bag monkey puppets Monkey See / Monkey Do (aka Simon Says) Monkeying Around ring toss Monkey in the Middle Hula Hoops Bananagrams (for older siblings that might attend) Curious George Bingo - get images of CG show characters and make into bingo cards I got pretty far into doing this, but then figured we wouldn't have enough time to play it. Last year for Curiosity Day, we had Curious George visit for a Story. I made some George masks and had a table with books and coloring/activity pages, but that was it. We had over 100 come, so this year I wanted to kick it up a notch. I wasn't satisfied with any of the Curious George crafts I found on Pinterest, so I made this accordion limb George craft: I pre-cut the t-shirts and faces and brown strips for arms and legs. The kids could color and assemble. Here is a template. We used the Cray

So my little guy is OBSESSED with Curious George. I thought it was a perfect theme for his 2nd birthday and it turned out SOOOOOO cute. For the past year, Curious George has been on a continuous loop on our TV (thank you Netflix!). Hadley can actually recite parts of episodes right before they happen. The downside to all this is that she seems to think she can leap over chairs like a monkey...which led to a busted lip the day before her 2 year old pictures. I knew that I wanted to give Hadley a Curious George themed party but I wanted to put a girly spin on it. What's a 2 year old girl's party without lots of pink?! Birthday morning presents from Mommy & Daddy This was on a bulletin board covered with pictures of my curious little girl throughout the past year. Yellow hat place settings Banner made with yellow and pink chevron paper Guests signed their names in this Curious George birthday book Banana bread party favors next to a sign that says "Thanks for swinging by!" Favors for Hadley's "curious" buddies More homemade yellow & pink chevron decorations! Hadley's special low-protein cupcake Fish crackers for the Quints Nuts for Jumpy Squirrel Worm race worms Licorice whips Veggies for Bill's bunnies Instead of cake we had a make your own banana split bar! Hadley's low-protein version of a banana split! The birthday girl's shirt...complete with strawberry syrup stains. :) Overall the party was a big success! I had a great time planning it and making the decorations. For us, birthdays aren't just about celebrating another year of Hadley's life, but they're also a celebration of making it through another year with PKU. I'm so thankful for the friends and family who helped us celebrate!
