New Cub Scout Parent Pamphlet-editable pdf Thanks to Julianne Anderson for donating this idea. She is Cubmaster of Pack 62, Hobble Creek District, Utah National Parks Council. When my son turned 8 he was so excited to join cub scouts. I grew up with 3 younger brothers; however, all I can remember is my brothers wore a blue uniform shirt with a neckerchief, including a neckerchief slide that usually fell off, and we sometimes went to pack meetings. I figured my son would go every week, earn some awards at his meetings, and I would sew patches to his shirt. That was the extent of my scouting knowledge and preparation. On my first trip to the scout shop to purchase supplies for my son I was overwhelmed by the various choices, and the cost involved, to get my son ready for scouts. About 6 months after my son joined cub scouts I was asked to serve as Cubmaster over his pack. Through the basic Cubmaster training I learned how cub scouts is supposed to run; with leaders and families working together to help mold and shape young boys, and have fun while doing it. Now armed with some scouting knowledge, I wanted to create an easy-to-read, single page pamphlet to give to new parents to help give them the basic information, plus help them understand everyone’s role in scouting. Here are two different editable pdf documents that you can use in your dens or packs. One has more editable text forms than the other, but they are in the same basic format. Some of the information is from scouting.org, and some of the den leader/parent/cub scout responsibilities ideas were taken from this blog post http://akelascouncil.blogspot.com/2013/02/cub-scout-orientation-for-new-cub.html. As brand new Cub Scouts are ready to join the Pack, I like to meet with them and their parents and give them a binder with all the tracking sheets and information they will need to be able to understand what we do at Cub Scouts every week. This is a great paper to give them to explain all about where you meet and what you do. Here are some signs I made to use in Cub Scouts. Feel free to use them if you'd like. PDF of Cub Scout Info Sign Since I am a teacher by nature, I always try to think of little tricks to remember things. When I participated in Board of Review nights with Boy Scouts, I noticed that the boys looked panicked when I asked them to recite the Scout Oath or Scout Law. It wasn't because they didn't have them memorized; it was because they forgot what they are called. So I came up with this little trick to help them. PDF of Boy Scout Law PDF of Boy Scout Oath
Who doesn't love flying a kite? It's the perfect family activity. You can make it even more fun by making your very own kites. This project is fast and fun, and even the youngest preschooler can make a kite with some help. And better yet, you probably already have everything you need lying around the house somewhere.

Above is a tracking sheet to be able to keep track of where each boy is on requirements towards the Bobcat, Wolf, Wolf Arrow Points, Progress Towards Rank beads, Gold and Silver Arrow Points, and Cub Scout World Conservation Award. There is also a spot to track the dates they served as Denner or Assistant Denner. I like to print this tracking sheet on cardstock, and I print one for each boy to be kept in my leader binder next to their tracking sheet for Bear, Webelos, Belt Loops, and Religious Award. I keep a different tab for every boy with all 3 tracking sheets. Then I have information on each boy. It helps to do it this way if you do one requirement one week and a different one other weeks. Not every boy is there every week. By doing this, I can always know where each boy is at, and it is all in one place. I keep a roll, and next to the roll I write down what we did that week. If the parents ever have questions, I always have a place to look back at on the roll, and I can always copy the tracking sheet to show them where their boy is. 5-10-2019 Update! After many requests for a Lion rank sheet, and after having project upon project pile up in its way, I FINALLY have a Lion sheet completed!!! Any new requests will include all ranks in a single PDF file. Save the pictures below or just drop your email down below and I'll get a pdf kicked out to you, usually the same day (or quicker). There has been an interest by a handful of you to do a form for the Bobcat rank, I have chosen to not complete a check list for this because there are so few requirements for it. 3-13-2017 Update! The updates from the fall 2016 have been completed for some time now. Any recent requests have been sent the updated PDF forms. Because I do much on my phone, the images here haven't been updated. It has been requested that I do the Lion program. Because of the infancy of the program, the things I want to put in to the forms are not yet available. As soon as they are, it's on my list to complete. The graphics for the changed requirements in the Bear rank haven't been updated by National as of yet. Thanks for your interest and I hope they continue to be a valuable tool for leaders. 12-05-2016 Update! I am currently in the process of updating these forms to reflect the changes that were just made to the cub program. Look for them soon! I loved my previous forms so much I was sad when I heard the new program would be changing nearly everything. What would I do? Yep, that's right. I made a new form for the new program. But this time I did more. I have been a Webelos leader for 6 years now but I also realize the other ranks could utilize a format similar to what I use. So, here they are, record keeping forms for Webelos, Bear, Wolf, and Tiger cub scouts. If you notice something that needs fixed or isn't included that you think should be, please let me know. If you would prefer the pdf format of these forms, I can certainly email them to you as well.

One of the coolest skills I learned while in Girl Scouts was lashing. With some sticks and rope, I can lash together just about anything! And that all stems from the ability to tie basic knots. Knot tying is an essential skill that most kids learn in scouts. These Knot tying practice sticks are great […]
