Microclover(R) – Trifolium repens If you desire a green lawn but don't have a herd of sheep to keep it tidy, you will love this clover. It has all the carefree vigor of regular clover, except with teeny tiny leaves. Microclover (R) grows enthusiastically and doesn't need to be babied. It tolerates sun, shade, drought, cold and trampling by sheep or humans. It’s great for erosion control or as a cover crop. It even helps aerate the soil. A killing frost may do it in, but it usually comes back after going slightly dormant in the winter. Clover is a nitrogen fixer, so it literally pulls nitrogen out of the air and into the soil. It requires little fertilizer, fungicides or pesticides. Its dense growth even crowds out weeds. Use it as a lawn replacement or add it to your existing lawn. Plant it between pavers, as a ground cover, wherever you need some year-round green. It’s low cost, low maintenance, and adapts beautifully to most climates and soils. Grow it in any zone 3 to 10, mow it or not. Plant in spring or fall. Two ounces is plenty for 25 square feet. One pound covers a 20 x 20 ft. yard. Write us if you need more. 2 oz. US shipping ONLY Growing Directions: Scuffle up bare soil, broadcast the seed evenly, cover with ¼” of soil. Water evenly. No pre-treatment needed for germination. Sow seeds just below soil surface at 70F and water. **All seeds ship for one price! Click here to see more: www.etsy.com/shop/SmartSeeds

The third and finest album yet by Toronto artist Tamara Lindeman, recorded in France with Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas) and Robbie Lackritz (Feist), Loyalty crystallizes her lapidary songcraft into eleven emotionally charged vignettes and intimate portraits, redolent of fellow Canadians Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, and David Wiffen, but utterly her own. A diaphanous eeriness and harmonic and rhythmic tension contributes to a pervading sense of clock-stopping bloom and smolder, recalling the spooky avant-soul of Terry Callier’s Occasional Rain. She’s an extraordinary singer and instrumentalist—on Loyalty she plays guitar, banjo, and keys—but Lindeman has always been a songwriter’s songwriter, recognized for her intricate verse, filled with double meanings, ambiguities, and complex metaphors. Though more moving than ever, her writing here is almost clinical in its unflinchingly self-examining gaze and deliberate delivery, evoking similarly idiosyncratic songsters from Linda Perhacs to Bill Callahan. Lyrically, Loyalty inverts the language of confession, of regret, of our most private and muddled mental feelings, by externalizing those anxieties through exquisite observation of the things and people we accumulate, the modest meanings accreted during our most ostensibly mundane domestic moments.

This is, or was,Teapot Rock in BLM's Fantasy Canyon site near Vernal, Utah. Sitting on a small BLM conservation plot of about one acre in a sea of oil and gas exploration, Teapot Rock was knocked down in the Fall of 2006. Much of the BLM's land in southern Utah is currently threatened by oil and gas exploration. While visiting this site I witnessed firsthand the devastation wreaked by the oil and gas industry in the northeast end of the state. To prevent this destructive abuse being repeated in vast tracts of alnd across the most scenic portions of southern Utah, please follow this link to politely ask your Senators and Representative to co-sponsor America's Red Rock Wilderness Act: secure2.convio.net/sierra/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&p...

Newly installed spiling in the winter If people have problems with eroding banks next to rivers and streams, live willow spiling installation could be the solution. This low cost method of erosion control often works in areas that are not so easily accessible for either large machinery or where it would be difficult to transport hard landscaping materials. If concrete piling or stone gabions are not an option and a gentler, cheaper solution which is better for local biodiversity is required, then live willow spiling could be perfect. Willow won't grow everywhere, it does need plenty of sunlight for example, but unlike many other trees, its roots can withstand being inundated a few times a year and will grow below the waterline. Spiling growing in the first summer after planting These images show willow spiling installed in a domestic setting that has been very successful at shoring up the bank on the garden. The residents are happy that the erosion has been stopped - especially as the bank is so close to the edge of their house! Notes: Live willow spiling is always installed in winter when the willow is not in leaf Willow needs plenty of sun if it is to thrive On steep banks, spiling can be installed in tiers The roots of the willow, once growing, bind the bank together and prevent further erosion from high water levels Spiling is pronounced to rhyme with 'filing' rather than 'filling'.

Like it or not, resources are finite. If we don't use them carefully, we'll run out. But while we've all heard the scary stories about peak oil, we're guessing you had no idea that we're running the risk of hitting peak banana. 10. Bananas Latin America is the largest cultivator of bananas in the world, with the area being responsible for around 70% of world production. That makes for a $8.9 billion a year industry. Humans have been growing bananas for at least 10,000 years, and they're an important part of the everyday diet for countless people. They're rich in
Hey Teacher Friends, Right now I’m in the process of creating a series of STEM projects for students who are studying Earth Science.. The current unit I’m focusing on is the Rock Cycle! After doing a little research, I came up with two great STEM projects that are simple enough to create in the classroom.
Erosion is the loss of soil. As soil erodes, it loses nutrients, clogs rivers with dirt, and eventually turns the area into a desert. Although erosion happens naturally, human activities can make it much worse. Plant grass and shrubs. Bare...
