"A grotesque old doctor, with carbuncled nose, approaches a lady, bowing low and holding out a clumsy petticoat. He says: "Mrs Jenny said your Ladyship complain'd of being cold about the loins - so I have Just stept in with a warm flannel petticoat." She is seated beside a tea-table, and throws up her arms, flinching back in horror; she says: "I have no loins fellow! do you want to make a monster of me?!!" She wears a high-waisted, short-sleeved dress, under which her legs are defined. Her little dog barks at the doctor. A large urn and a small cup (overturned) and saucer, are the only objects on the table." (British Museum online catalogue). . Isaac Cruikshank d'après Woodward. Première édition. Vers 1807.

His book illustrations for his friend di lui Charles Dickens, and many other authors, reached an international audience. For Charles Dickens, Cruikshank illustrated Sketches by Boz (1836), The Mudfog Papers (1837–38) and Oliver Twist (1838). He also illustrated Memoirs of Joseph Grimaldi (1838), which Dickens edited under his regular nom de plume, "Boz". Cruikshank even acted in Dickens's amateur theatrical company. Her private education was mainly at the hands of the writer and artist William Gilpin (1724–1804), vicar of nearby Boldre, known for his introduction of the idea of the post-Enlightenment picturesque. She showed early artistic talent. Some of her surviving paintings are owned by Keswick School and held by the Wordsworth Trust.
