I love Halloween! (just as much as I love Christmas) Everything about it is so much fun. I've been seeing a ghost blanket from Home Goods that has gone viral. Every creator is looking for it. And like any maker, what do we say when we see something in a store we like... "I can make that!" So I did. Here is my Ghost with the Most Blanket. Easy beginner friendly pattern! The ghosts are also a great craft project on their own, perfect for a garland or wall hanging. Let's get started! Notes before you begin: The ghosts are made with a felt backing and can be sewn together or hot glued - all with the intention that this blanket can ONLY be hand washed GENTLY, or spot washed. The blanket is worked on its own and the ghosts are added to the finished blanket. About the yarn: I used Mill House Super Bulky It's a 100% acrylic yarn that features the warmth and softness of wool with the easy care wash-ability of acrylic. Perfect for bulky accessories, blankets, or quick gifts. Available in 12 vibrant hues and sold exclusively through WeCrochet. OTH Crochet Nook Pattern: Ghost with the Most Blanket 8 x Mill House Super Bulky in Burnt Orange 1 x Mill House Super Bulky in Tan Heather 10mm Crochet Hook (I used Furls Crochet Cookie Swirl Hook, it's dreamy!) Scissors Tapestry needle or Hot Glue (attaching the ghosts to the blanket) Black foam circles for ghost eyes (or use a marker) Felt (colour to match your ghost yarn colour) Abbreviations: CH(S) = Chain(s) SC = Single Crochet FDSC = Foundation Single Crochet ST(S) = Stiches Foundation Single Crochet (FDSC): Here is an easy video tutorial from Evelyn and Peter, watch it HERE Pattern: FDSC 70 Row 1: In the 2nd st from the hook, SC, skip the next st, *3 SC in the next st, skip 2 sts. Repeat from * across until the last 2 sts remain, skip one, sc in the last st and turn. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in the first st, skip the next one, 3 sc in the next sts, *skip the next 2 sts, 3 sc in the next st. Repeat from * across until the last 2 sts remain, skip one, sc in the last one and turn. Row 3-71: Repeat row 2. Making the ghosts: Step 1: cut the shape of the ghost using cardboard, trace the cardboard shape onto felt, trace 9 ghosts (or how ever many you want), cut out the ghost from the felt Step 2: Cut 6 pieces of yarn that are long enough to wrap cover the felt, use a hot glue gun and attach the yarn pieces like the photos below Step 3: Trim the yarn ends to line up with the felt. Step 4: Attach the foam circles as ghost eyes. You can use a black permanent marker as well. Or cut your own pieces of felt and hot glue OR sew them on Step 5: Attach ghosts anywhere on the blanket, sew them on or hot glue them (if you this blanket is for decor purposes only) That's it! Your Ghost with the Most Blanket is done! I'd love to see it, tag me @OTHCrochetNook
These classy, neutral, crocheted coasters are perfect for any household. They are handmade with a lightweight, 50% cotton and 50% viscose from bamboo yarn. The dimensions are 3.5" x 3.5". They are available in two colors: linen and sage. Linen is a cool tone beige and perfect for those who love a neutral aesthetic. Sage is a light green that is great for a subtle pop of color. These coasters are soft to the touch and will protect your surfaces from heat and/or water damage. They are also machine washable. These are handmade products, so there may be slight variations with each unique coaster :)
This is my first TOP DOWN sweater design. If you're reading this right now and you've never crocheted a sweater from the top down, this is a great one to try. Since this is MY first, I made it very simple, it's perfect for beginners. The same stitch throughout, easy to size, and can be customized to your length of choice. And speaking of firsts - this is the first time I've used fingering yarn. It took hours to find my 3.75mm hook (I've never used it before)! That being said, I made this work up easily and kept in mind that this might be your first top down as well. My friends at WeCrochet have sponsored this post and sent me this beautiful yarn to use for this sweater. Check out this close up! Hawthorne Speckle Hand Painted yarn is a joy to work with. The ever changing palette of colours change the look of every row. However, since it is hand painted, colours may vary from skein to skein, which makes every skein unique! It's 80% Fine Superwash Highland Wool, and 20% Nylon. Check all the gorgeous Hawthorne Speckle Hand Painted Yarn: click HERE. Now let's get into the pattern! I called this the Celebration Raglan because I released it on my 39th Birthday! Plus, I'm celebrating that I'm safe at home with my family and taking in my last year being 30-something :) Notes before you begin: -this sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down using half double crochets throughout -your initial chain (neckline) does not count as a row -the top (yoke) is worked in the round with increases in each row -the ch 1 does NOT count in each round -once the yoke is complete and fits over your chest (try it on as you go), you will join to make spaces for the sleeves and work the body all the way down in the round until you are satisfied with the length -The sleeves are worked in the round by attaching yarn (try it on as you go to achieve the sleeve length you want) -there will be a few decreases towards the bottom of each sleeve to create the "balloon" affect - you can definitely keep your sleeves as is with no decrease and just sl st as your last row -please email me if you have ANY questions othcrochetnook AT gmail DOT com OTH Crochet Nook Pattern: Celebration Raglan Materials: Crochet Hook 3.75mm Stitch Markers Yarn: Hawthorne Speckle Hand Painted Yarn in Tie Dye (Fingering weight will do) *I used 4 hanks for size medium* Gauge: 4" x 4" = 15 sts x 16 rows Sizes: Indicated as follows: S (M, L, XL, XXL) This pattern can be customized to the exact size you need, follow along and send me questions any time! My yoke: 30 rows My body: 35 rows Legend: Ch - Chain HDC - Half Double Crochet Sl St - Slip Stitch HDC2TOG - Joining 2 stitches with 1 HDC Ch 92 (96, 100, 104, 108) (chain any # that can be multiplied by 4, as long as it fits comfortably around your neck, this will be the neckline of your sweater.) Join in the round with a sl st in first stitch without twisting. Row 1: HDC in every stitch, join with sl st to join, ch 1. (92, 96,100, 104, 108) Row 2: Ch 1. *HDC in 22 (23, 24, 25, 26), 2HDC in the next, repeat from * 3 more times, sl st in top of Ch 1. *Now place a stitch marker in each "2HDC" - this way you won't have to count anymore, keep working HDC's in the round and increasing with "2HDC" where you stitch marked. It's easy to see the increase stitches, they look like a "v" This is the YOKE of your sweater. Keep working in the round with increases until you reach the desired length for your yoke. Keep trying on the yoke over your head and onto your shoulders and decide when it fits perfectly over you chest area and you can pull it under your armpits. (*make sure you have the same amount of HDCs in between each increase, or the yoke won't line up evenly. You want it to comfortably fit under the armpit) *When you have completed your yoke, you will make space for sleeves and work the body of the sweater. MAKING SPACE FOR SLEEVES: Work HDCs until you get to the first stitch marker (increase), now join (with a SL ST) to the 2nd stitch marker, continue HDCs until you get to the 3rd stitch marker and join it (with a SL ST) to the 4th stitch marker. Your yoke should now look like the image below: BODY: Continue working HDCs in the round. Last row: SC around once, sl st in the last st, fasten off. SLEEVES (2): Attach yarn to center of armpit. Row 1: Ch 1. HDCs in every stitch (working in the round), sl st to join. Row 2: repeat Row 1 until you have reached the desired length of your sleeve (you can keep trying it on as you go!) Last row: SC around to finish sleeve off, sl st in last st, fasten off (or skip this step and scroll down to create the balloon sleeve) Optional - BALLOON SLEEVE: Instead of finishing the sleeve off with single crochets, here is how you can create the balloon sleeve Your last 15 rows of each sleeve will work up like this: Row 1: *HDC2TOG, HDC in the next 10, repeat from * until round ends, sl st to join. (no need to be exact here, just complete HDC2TOG for every 10sts, or until the round ends) Row 2: Ch 1. HDC around in every stitch, sl st to join Row 3: Repeat row 1 Row 4: Repeat row 2 Row 5- 10: Repeat row 1 Row 11 - 15: Repeat row 2 Sl st around for finished look, fasten off. Optional - FINISH NECKLINE Attach yarn to neckline and do one round of single crochet. SL ST twice, fasten off. And you're done! Time to celebrate with your Celebration Raglan!! I'm obsessed with cotton yarn. I spend half my year with bulky chunky yarn and the other half all cotton! I love designing light, airy, and comfortable garments for Spring and Summer. This one is very beginner friendly. Using only triple crochets throughout and minimal seaming. Now you know why I called it the "Triple Top." I love how triple crochets look and they're a lot of fun to work up. First let's give this beautiful yarn a spotlight. I wish you could squish this yarn right now! Billow is the softest cotton in BULKY...it slides off your hook and works up so fast. At 100% Pima Cotton, it feels like a million dollars. Not to mention it comes in 24 stunning colours! Check them all out HERE. Notes before you begin: This pattern is worked flat Front and back panel are worked flat as one piece, leaving a neck hole. The sleeves are worked flat back and fourth on each side. Then folded in half and seamed on the sides and under the arm. Chain 3 at the beginning of each row does NOT count as a stitch. This can be customized to any length (add more rows) or any width (add more chains to begin with). The fit is meant to be loose, there is an ease of +4" If you would like a tighter fit, size down. We’ve put together our comfiest, coziest tips that will help you create your own cozy crochet nook where you can find peace and tranquility.
you all know i have a love affair with knitting & sewing but i also adore crochet. it's the one craft that often get's pushed aside for me...
I used to buy cotton face pads every few weeks. I was using them to remove my makeup every night and noticed how much waste I was creating. I wanted to make my own reusable face scrubbies that I could use over and over again. Crochet face scrubbies are easy to make, even for beginners. All you need is some cotton yarn, a crochet hook, and some basic crochet skills. There are a ton of free crochet face scrubbie patterns online, including this one! Using cotton or bamboo yarn are perfect options, they are gentle on the skin and can easily be washed. One tip, I double stranded my cotton yarn to make them more durable and last longer! I chose to use COTLIN, it's hands down my favourite cotton yarn. It's a perfect blend of cotton and linen that's easy to wash and extra soft. Here is the pattern: Yarn: Cotlin (DOUBLE STRANDED) Hook: 5mm STITCH: Modified Puff Stitch (MPS):Yarn over, insert hook, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert hook, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all loops. Chain 1 PATTERN BEGINS: Chain 4, join with slip stitch at first chain to make a circle Round 1: (MPS, Chain 1) x 6 inside the circle. Sl st to join, chain 1 Round 2: (MPS, Chain 1) in every stitch. Sl st to join, chain 1 (12 MPS) Round 3: (MPS, Chain 1) in every stitch. Sl st to join, chain 1 (24 MPS) Round 4: Single Crochet in every stitch around, sl st to join, fasten off. (24) Done! Can't wait to see your face scrubbies! Tag me @othcrochetnook
A cute baby polar bear toy knit without seams on double pointed needles. Otto was designed to be round and cuddly but still easy for little hands to grasp. He knits up quickly and the size can be varied by changing the weight of yarn used. Otto would make a wonderful gift for any kid, or adult.

Being a maker has so many sustainable benefits. We make things with our hands. I've been thinking more green lately and using crochet to add reusable items to my everyday routine. This crochet loofah is so easy to make and completely washable and reusable. The pattern is 1 stitch and 2 rounds - that's it! It will take you 20 minutes to make! So fast! Best fibers to make a crochet loofah are: cotton, hemp, or jute. These are eco-friendly and biodegradable. Traditional loofahs are made from plastic and can take hundreds of years to break down. Crochet loofahs can be used for months with proper care and will reduce your carbon footprint instead of buying a new one every few months. I used a pima cotton yarn for this pattern. Here is the pattern: YARN: Cotton (worsted or weight 4) HOOK: 5mm Chain 5, join with sl st in first chain to make a circle Round before pouf begins: Add 20 Double Crochets inside the circle, sl st to join. Chain 30 (this is the pouf handle), join with sl st in first chain. *optional: fasten off here and attach a new colour, if you want a different yarn for your loofah. *chain 2 does not count as a st* Round 1: Chain 2, 4 Double Crochets in every stitch, join with sl st. Round 2: Chain 2, 4 Double Crochets in every stitch, join with sl st. Fasten off. Done! Can't wait to see your crochet loofah! Tag me @OTHCrochetNook
These star frames are a twist on the Mary Go Round crochet flowers by Lola Nova. I've been making the flower frames for a couple of years to frame Little Golden Book pictures. I've recently come up with a version of my own just in time for Christmas, the perfect handmade ornament for the tree! Use them to frame photos of family members or treasured Christmas pictures, or just leave it empty and let it hang amongst the lights! Here's how to make them... You will need to raid your daughters/friends dress up box or jewelry stash for a cheap thin(but rigid) metal bracelet as shown in the picture. You can also pick them up at $2 shops, opp(thrift) shops or chain stores like Diva. I’ve used 8 ply wool or acrylic yarn for all of my stars, and a 4mm hook. You can experiment with finer yarn or a larger hook if you like. Stitches used: * Slip Stitch (sl st) * Chain Stitch (ch) * Single Crochet Stitch (sc) * Double Crochet Stitch (dc) * Picot stitch After attaching yarn to hook with a slip knot, attach your yarn to your bracelet with a slip stitch (I usually use finer bracelets, you know the tacky silver, gold or metallic coloured ones? This one is a touch smaller in circle size but thicker to crochet around. Just see what you can find) Chain 1, work a SC into the bracelet. Continue to work SC’s into the bracelet all the way around so that you cover all of the metal, but not so that it is bunched up (if that makes sense). Join to the first chain with a sl st. (If you do too many stitches around you will end up with too many star points and they won't sit nice and flat) You can keep count if you like and you will finish with 49 stitches (including first chain) which makes things easier later, but I never do and always manage to finish with even ‘petals/points’ by adjusting the point width which I’ll explain later. Chain 1, work a SC into the same stitch and each following stitch all the way around and join with a sl st. *Skip 2 stitches and work a DC into the next stitch (the third stitch from the hook). Then do two more DC into the same stitch. Picot stitch: From here, chain 3, sl st into the first of these 3 chain stitches. Then do 3 more DC’s into the same stitch as the first 3. Skip 2 stitches and sl st into the next stitch.* You will end up with your first star point with your 6 DC's and a picot st in between. (for a full tutorial on how to do a picot stitch click here) Repeat from * to * around the bracelet and pull through to finish. Use a needle to weave the starting end through to meet the finished end so that you can tie them together to hang on your tree or garland. Note: You can see if you look closely that my points are slightly uneven and the last three points are slightly wider than the first four. This is because I'm lazy and don't count my stitches!! Quite often I get it right anyway but I usually count my remaining stitches when I'm close to the end and modify the last few or even just one so that I use all the stitches. I don't think it matters in the end but thats just me and my love of imperfect creations :) To modify you either (or both) skip and extra stitch before the first three DC's or after the last three. Or you your could skip three stitches all the way around if you'd like less points in your star. I hope I've made some sense in my first ever tutorial! AND I hope I've encouraged you to have yourself a handmade Christmas (one handmade ornament counts!!). If you can't crochet then enjoy making these mini paper lanterns I made with my daughters..... xoxo

Purple and yellow-green (two of our favorite colors) blend with rose pink and shades of gray and cream in this whimsical colorway. This colorway is a Babette: every skein and every batch is a bit different, but Babs has a method of recreating these artistic colorways. The photograph is an example of representative skeins from this colorway; the skein you receive may differ somewhat. This colorway is also highly variable, so feel free to give us a call for a current description of what we have, or if you have any questions about the color. These are the perfect quick and fun gift pattern or beginner challenge. This pattern is worked in two separate pieces and crocheted together with single crochets. It works well with any chunky weight yarn. If you have a tight tension go up a hook size especially for the sole. If you are an absolute beginner or after a quick project, I suggest using two colors only. Try using 10ply/medium/Aran weight yarn and a 5mm hook for smaller child sizes, or a 7mm hook for extra large adult size. Video tutorials for this pattern are free to access on my IGTV.
