First of all I would like to note that this crocheted Roly Poly Pill Bug has many details to sew together. I wanted it to be flexible as much as possible, so I could not crochet it solid. Sewing it is not difficult but requires patience and attention to assemble everything symmetrically. This is PDF file in English, uses US crochet terms. File consists of 9 pages, has a lot of helpful photos and links to the videos to help in assembling. Size of a finished toy will depend on the yarn you choose, but if to use required materials it will be about 7 - 8 inches length. Isn’t it funny how little ones are just curious about everything and totally don’t have that grossed out reaction that we have as adults? I have to admit bugs creep me out, so I was totally not excited for this week’s theme. I tried my best to contain my feelings about insects so Madelynn could […]

The original inspiration for this was Spawn 2s love of the wee bug that was Wall-Es friend in the film ... he's terrified of anything other than ants, but loves this :D. It's pretty much any yarn with a hook a little smaller than the suggested to help prevent the stuffing showing through. The one in the pictures was done using chunky wool (about 20g of yarn i think) and a 4mm hook, but I've also done a Double Knitting (about 15g) version using a 3mm hook ... tension isnt really important for this. Anyway, freebie pattern time... Materials Oddments of bug coloured yarn crochet hook a size smaller than yarn suggests (see above) a yard of black yarn for eyes/mouth embroidery (or beads for eyes if not for a small child) a little filling tapestry needle notes worked in american terms... eg single crochet on this pattern is a UK/Aus double crochet. Thanks to Pinterest I found some really great ideas for the kiddos' Valentines this year. For the ones above we attempted pencils instead, because I hate to give out candy (yes. I'm THAT mom), but they just weren't working :( We were almost out of our prefered brand (Yummy Earth) of all natural lollipops with no dye or HFCS and made with natural juice, so a quick trip to the local mini-mart/gas station produced Tootsie Pops! These fun love bug jar Valentines are for my 7 year old who loves insects as much as I do! We stamped a canning jar onto white cardstock, then scanned it and enlarged it on our computer to print out the perfect size jars for the insects we purchased (Safari Ltd. Toob insects). They are held in place with a large glue dot. Thanks for stopping by today, *mwah*
