The advantage of drawers WITH folds is that children can easily put pens and blocks in and take them out, as the pens and blocks don't get stuck too much. A nice side effect: it looks pretty :) With this technique, the pins and blocks are placed opposite each other. Go back to the days of coloring books and use them fill your drawings with color- Use them to create a resist with watercolors. Start by using a white crayon to draw on a blank page. Paint over the top of the designs with watercolors and watch your designs come to life! Tip- While your paint is still wet, press it onto another page and make a light print- its what I call a 2 for 1 deal! It makes a great background for journaling! Go wild with abstraction and scribbles! Fill the page with colorful scribbles. Use watercolors to fill in the white space. Tip- use paper as a background for journaling, cut it up and use in collage projects, scan and use in digital projects or doodle over the top... Use crayons to create colorful rubs. Rub over surfaces with texture. Use in backgrounds for mixed media projects. Use crayons to explore patterns. Tip- Layer colors on top of each other to create the look of blending. Use a colorful crayon to journal over the top of watercolor backgrounds. Never underestimate just how far you can go with simple art supplies!

"Against Forgetting" is a fine art print of an original piece by Nina Montenegro. A wax rubbing of a tree stump is adjacent to an inked fingerprint. This piece has been featured in Orion Magazine, Camas Magazine, and High Country News. Artist Statement: I encountered an enormous stump on Orcas Island (likely a Doug Fir) and tenderly took a rubbing with wax crayon. I had always marveled at the similarity between the rings of a tree and the rings of our human fingerprints, but I was shocked to see the rings actually align when I took an inked fingerprint and enlarged it to the scale of the tree rings. What resulted was a harmonious depiction of humanity's kinship (and belonging) with nature. Dimensions are 10" x 10", 14" x 14", or 20" x 20". Open edition, titled and signed. Printed digitally on archival paper with matte finish. Background is printed color, not the paper color. Les enfants ont réalisé des personnages "Robots" à la manière de Mika. Une œuvre de Mika Mika est un artiste peintre autodidacte, né en 1972 dans le Nord de la France. Après une longue étape dans les Vosges, il est aujourd'hui installé à l'Atelier 21 grammes, à Nantes, 1 rue Saint Denis, près de la cathédrale. Je connaissais déjà cet artiste et je l'ai redécouvert cet été à Nantes en voyant des peintures exposées dans des vitrines du quartier où se situe sa galerie. Réalisations de Mika à Nantes En voyant ses œuvres, j'ai bien évidemment pensé que cela pourrait être étudié en classe avec les enfants de grande section ! Dans un premier temps, les enfants ont découvert certaines œuvres de l'artiste. Ils ont ainsi pu observer , et décrire une (ou plusieurs) image(s) et exprimer leurs ressentis. Ensuite, lors d'une phase d'approfondissement, ils ont vu une présentation de l'artiste puis nous avons décrit en détail la composition de chaque personnage. Les enfants réalisent que chaque robot est constitué de formes géométriques simples disposées de façon identique (carré, rond, triangle, rectangle). - Imprimer la fiche de Mika. De manière plus ou moins dirigée, chaque enfant a réalisé une composition plastique plane. Ils ont à leur disposition plusieurs feuilles colorées dans lesquelles ils découpent différentes formes. Pour certains enfants, plusieurs essais de découpage seront faits pour arriver à la bonne taille désirée de leur forme voulue. Tous les découpages sont faits à main levée, sauf pour les ronds, les yeux et le cœur qui sont tracés d'abord au crayon à papier puis découpés. Lors de cette séance, leur faire prendre conscience de réaliser leur personnage en suivant un ordre particulier: débuter par le corps et la tête, puis la bouche, les pieds, les bras, puis le nez, le cœur ou les deux ronds et pour finir les yeux. Les enfants ont également réalisé les collages au fur et à mesure des découpages. Une fois leurs productions bien sèches, les enfants ont tracé les pupilles et des lignes comme Mika avec des crayons de cire blanche et noire.
