When I exhibited the Spirit Book in the Carney Gallery at Regis College in Weston, MA in 2005, I thought it was the end of the series. After a long break, I decided that I missed making them and have three underway. This is Spirit Book #51. As yet it is unnamed. All the sections are made and I need to put them together—always a joy—and then make the base from binders board and paper—my least favorite part.

I was so excited to see this months Graphic 45 challenge: #G45DarkSide. This was just the prompt I needed to get to business on a project I’ve been thinking about for a long while. I’m a big fan of altering altoid tins. You can create these tins to hold just about anything. Create a fancy little sewing kit. Keep one in your car filled with emergency bits and bobs. You can fit a surprising amount in those little tins. I’ve created two #G45DarkSide tins here. One tin pairs papers from Communique—Deluxe Collector's Edition with brass Staples Decorative Hardware. The other uses Floral Shoppe with shabby chic Staples Decorative Hardware The tins contain a sort of storage space which, if careful, can fit a surprising amount of goodies! All of the items above fit comfortably in that trap-door space. My tins will be used as tiny portable travel altars. Each contains matches, a vile of herbs, incense, candles, gemstones, a tiny crystal ball, vessels for libations and offerings, magnetic images and more! But if altars aren’t your thing… no worries! The video tutorial I’ve created demonstrates how to cover an altoid style tin and create the trapdoor element inside. So take those instructions to create something that suits YOU. I'm smitten with my little altars but I totally encourage you to take this idea and run with it, making something filled with little things useful or treasured by you. My little dolls have pose-able limbs by using pipe cleaners in their arms and legs. I worry a bit that bending these pipe cleaners too much will cause them to break, so here is another way to make these little dolls pose-able. For the pose-able Pocket Spirit above, I've crocheted seperate upper and lower arms, and upper and lower legs; so now she has an elbow joint and a knee joint. Upper and lower arm, and what they look like stitched together. Pipe cleaners are still inserted into the upper and lower arms, but the bending is now done at the joint. And here is the leg, one completed and the other showing how the two are stitched together. The arms and legs are a bit longer than the original Pocket Spirit, so I made her torso a bit longer too. She stands just under eight inches tall; still a sweet size :-) The pattern with these modifications is here: Jointed Pocket Spirit Pattern Meet Nadia! Nadia and Comfort in sepia :-) Enjoy the day, and enjoy the crochet!
Every doll has a soul.New Moon Spirit Dolls — The Journey of Designby Silver RavenWolf copyright 2012I don’t know why I started designing these Spirit Dolls. Maybe it was watching Lord Thorn quietly sew together a ritual robe for his friend by hand the other week.“Why aren’t you using a sewing machine?” I asked. He smiled. “I don’t have one. Besides, I find stitching it by hand more fulfilling.”I thought about that. There is a special kind of contemplative joy in working magick while stitchi

I'm almost finished the bulk of my work for Gen's show so I'm going to to start a new polymer clay project this week! I plan to revisit the Beach Woman theme. I've done a few pieces with this concept, the largest being K'Seia. I have a wall hanging version in mind this time. My first task will be to select some yarns- I'm excited about taking a first time yarn hunting visit to Knotty By Nature tomorrow. Once the yarn is selected, the clay colours will be mixed.
