Scrapbooking is a creative and fun way to look back at all of your favorite moments. Your special photos are decorated with your favorite colors and embellishments and you will have a book to flip through for years to come. There are countless tips and tricks when it comes to scrapbooking. Little shortcuts or smart ways to utilize your tools can save you a lot of time or take your scrapbook to the next level. We have 9 scrapbooking hacks we think you should definitely learn to use for your next scrapbook project! Painter swatches Have you ever walked through the paint aisle at a home improvement store and just stopped and stared at the countless pretty colors? There are so many different colors and shades and it would be so fun to include these colors in your scrapbook. Thankfully, you can! A lot of the paint swatches have free samples that you can grab and take home with you. For scrapbookers, this is great because you can use these colors for cutouts. It’s even easy to make a gradient effect of a particular cut out that matches your scrapbook page! Wax paper Have a page you’re working on, but haven’t printed or taken the perfect photo for it? Wax paper can easily solve this problem! Simply cut out the wax paper at the size the picture will be, and use a sticker keep one of the corners down. That way, you can continue to work on your page and simply put the photo in place of the wax paper when you have it! Save your scraps A lot of people will just toss aside their scraps of paper when they’re done using it. Us scrapbookers know to always hold on to the scraps! You can use these for small shapes, cutouts, or embellishments on other pages in your scrapbook. You can even mix and match different scraps of paper to form exactly what you want. Add Dimension Adding dimension to your scrapbook and can be tricky, but we have the easiest tip for you! When you’re layering different pages behind your photos, you can slightly bend the edges of the paper to add dimension and a shadow to your layout. This easy trick will make your page look incredible! Don’t bend the pages too much – you will want it to look effortless. Mix and match prints Another way to add dimension and texture to your pages is by mixing and matching prints. It’s fun to occasionally make a page that has entirely different prints on it and juxtapose it with another calm page. Keep it simple While you will want to add prints and textures in your scrapbook, you can never go wrong with keeping it simple. Having the right amount of white space is key to not making your eyes super busy and all over the page! Picture Keeper Connect The best scrapbooking hack of all is Picture Keeper Connect! Ok, ok I know it's supposed to be tutorial Tuesday but we can have tutorial Wednesday for once right?! Sorry I didn't get the tutorial up yesterday, I was waiting for some new stamps and papers to come in to make this project, and gosh am I glad I did wait! I absolutely LOVE the new stamps and the papers are gorgeous *swoon*, just look at the prettiness! So today we are making a Waterfall Card. You will need: - White Card - Card Blank (or you can fold your own with the white card) - Patterned Paper and matching coloured card (I used the new Chalkboard Collection Pack) - Brads x2 (or you can use eyelets) - Stamps/die cuts/stickers - Ink pads (I used Memento Black ink to stamp my flowers) - Glue - Optional flowers for decoration If you are using stamps then start by cutting yourself out 4 or 5 squares of white card. Mine were about 4.5cm. Stamp your images onto them. I also inked the edges of my squares but this is optional. If you are using die cuts or stickers then you don't need to do this step, as you can see I used stamped images and 1 die cut. Now cut yourself 5 squares in your coordinating coloured card. These will want to be approx 0.5cm bigger than your white squares. Or if you are using die cuts or stickers then they will want to be just bigger than your shapes, but make sure they are square! Stick your stamped images/die cuts to the coloured card. Cut yourself a new piece of white card the full long length of an A4 piece and the width of your squares. So mine was 5cm wide by 29.7cm long. Measure up from one end the size of your square and mark it. This is where you will put your first score line. Then you will make 4 more score lines 1.5cm apart. Now you can start to glue your squares to the scored length of card. Add one square to the bottom so that it covers the whole space. Then you want to add some glue to each of the 1.5cm sections and adhere just the top of the squares. Get your card blank (or fold yourself one with some more white card, mine measured approx 10cm x 21cm) and decorate the front. I have used another piece of pink card and some patterned paper. You will also need to cut yourself a piece of coloured card the width of your card by 1.5cm. So mine was 10cm x 1.5cm. Attach the extra piece of card to the front of your decorated card using either brads or eyelets just at the edges. You will need to leave the middle of the piece of card unstuck so you can slip your waterfall part through it. You need to place it so that the waterfall has enough room to sit above it. Mine was approx 1/3 of the way up from the bottom. Now adhere the bottom of the waterfall part to the piece of card you just attached and fold the top part of the white card back and under the strip. You can now pull on the white card that comes out the bottom to make sure your waterfall works. Now all you have to do is trim down the white card pull tab to a length you are happy with and add a flower or other embellishment to finish it off. All done :) I love how effective and fun waterfall cards are and I hope you do too. These cards are especially good for children. Have fun and if you make a waterfall card we would love to see. We’ve listed a few of our favorite scrapbooking supplies to help you get started! Scissors Finding your favorite pair of crafting scissors is a must! You don’t want to use your worn-down everyday kitchen scissors. Instead, you need to opt for something sharp that will make cutting your cardstock easy and clean. Some great options include Cutter Bee Scissors and Fiskars Softgrip Scissors. Glue There are millions of choices for glue that can be used when crafting! Scrapbooking specifically uses a variety of different glues depending on what is being put on each particular page – whether it’s paper, photos, or other decorations! Glue sticks are a must for scrapbookers. It dries clear and clean, and it’s perfect for projects that require paper. Tacky glue, Glue dots, and Double-sided tape are also great choice of adhesives for paper projects like scrapbooking! Straight Edge Paper Cutter With the amount of cutting and designing scrapbooking takes, a straight edge paper cutter is an absolute must! You don’t want your sheets or photo mattes to be cut crooked or diagonal. With a straight edge paper cutter, your scrapbook will be looking stunning. Cricut If you are truly dedicated to your craft, a Cricut is the perfect tool to have. It will make many of your processes easier! No more cutting out each individual letter for a page, the cricut can do that work for you! They have a variety of products for different types of material so if you want to move beyond the paper, it’s a fun tool to learn to use! Cardstock You can’t create a scrapbook without paper! You can find a variety of scrapbook paper options at the craft stores like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Joann. The key is to pick a theme of your scrapbook, or that page, so that the color schemes match. There are usually plenty of options of different themes at the stores. I recommend grabbing plenty of solid colored colorstock and then pair with cardstock that has patterns or textures.
