Hello! I'd like to quickly share a fun pop-up Christmas box card that I made for another crafty friend. I have been eyeing the BB Santa's Elves Stamp Set from My Favorite Things for awhile now and was finally able to snag it over MFT Stamps Black Friday sale. I just love these cute little elves! To start, I first stamped my images with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto smooth white cardstock (I like using the Neenah Classic Crest Smooth Solar White 110lb for myimages in a box card so that they don't tend to bend or flop over when standing upright). I then colored everything using Copic Sketch Markers. Colors Used: Skin: E50, E51, E11, E23 Hair: E27, E29 Reds: R14, R29, R46, R59 Green Clothes and Green Bulbs: G20, YG13, YG17, YG97 Tree and Green Stocking: G20, YG13, YG17, G16 and G29 for shading Blue Gifts: B21, B23, B26 Yellow Bulbs on Hats: Y06, Y15, E33 Whites: 0, C00, C0, C2, C4 Once complete, I then used the coordinating dies to cut out my images. I then created the box/base of my card using a 12"x12" piece of white cardstock, a paper trimmer and a scoring board. I usually follow THIS TUTORIAL by Splitcoaststampers to get me started, but make a few of my own changes to customize the size that I want. I added some patterned paper panels along the sides of the box. On the back panel (it's difficult to see in the photos), I used the MFT Snowfall Stencil and White Crackle Embossing Paste to create the look of falling snow. I diecut some snow white grass using the MFT Grassy Fields Die-namics and then added some street lights using the Streetlights Die-namics from which to hang some Christmas ornaments. To finish the card, I added heat embossed the sentiment "Happiest of Holidays" onto red cardstock and attached it to the side panel of the box after using the MFT Die-namics Essential Fishtail Sentiment Strips to cut it out. I will be playing along and entering this card into the following challenges: Simon Says Monday Challenge: Icy Inspiration Addicted To Stamps and More Challenge #271: Anything Goes Thank you all for dropping by! So. I went to Pinterest to check an image on one of my boards. . . An hour later. Grrrr! I can't say my visit was entirely unproductive. I found a cute and simple card by Beate Johns that uses a scoring tool to make a pretty border. . . And then this nifty pop-up card posted by an innovative gal from Norway. . . Idea #1 + Idea #2 = this fun card made with Club Scrap's colorful Peacock collection. For the font of the card, I stamped a 4x5.25" white panel and then scored the perimeter at 1/4" and 3/8". The cutting diagram for the inner pop-up was shared on Bente Arstad's blog, but it was in centimeters. (If only we used centimeters in America---so much easier to do things in multiples of ten, but I digress.) I used a metric to inches conversion chart to figure out how to do the cutting and scoring and spent a few wasted moments trying to decide if I really should put 1-37/64" on my new diagram. Uh, no. Here's my Americanized convoluted version: After cutting and scoring, I figured out the folds. Go ahead and do that. You'll need a 5-1/2x8-1/2" piece for the base of your card. If you nest the pop-up mechanism into the folded card base, you'll find that the mechanism is just a little too big. So, here's what I did to solve that. I put that puppy into the trimmer and shaved off 1/8" from all four sides. I would have started out that way and changed the diagram, but I didn't want to take away from the experience. Finally, I measured all of the flat surfaces of the pop-up and cut panels to fit. These were the measurements of those panels, in case you were wondering. (2) 1-1/8x5" Green Panels (4) 1-1/4x5/8" Purple Panels (4) 1-1/4x5/8" Blue Panels (2) 2x3-1/4" White Panels Stamp and decorate those panels before you install them on the pop-up mechanism. Then, attach only the outer edges of the mechanism to the edges of the card. Open. Close. Open. Close. Go show someone the awesome card you just made!
I made a couple punch templates (using card stock) last night and went through the entire Spring-Summer Stampin' Up! catalog to see which new sets coordinated with which punches. Here's a thread from the Splitcoast Stampers site which offers an excellent list of punches that coordinate with

Hi everyone! I am so honored to have been chosen as part of the September through December Creative Crew over at SplitCoast Stampers! We have a whole month of challenges in store, celebrating the theme of Sewing and the Comfort Cafe DSP and colors! For the first challenge, DSP/Color Focus, I decided to do a set of four quilting cards. These are quite addicting! My daughter has taken up quilting, and pointed me to many websites and a few books that have tons of quilt square patterns. I decided to go with ones that I could use with a square punch. I just punched out all different patterns in DSP and some cardstock, and played around with combinations! To get the quilting effect, I used the square lattice embossing folder after I adhered the pieces to cardstock. Please hop over the SCS and join in the fun! Also check out the gallery of all the team's creations...lots of inspiration there! I will be sharing the other challenges all month long. Thanks! Do something fun today! Lauri
