Она является первой художницей по текстилю, ставшей членом Wildlife Art Society of Australasia (Австралийского общества художников дикой природы) и Australian Guild of Realist Artists (Австралийской гильдии художников-реалистов). В 1992 году она выпустила книгу «The Art of Annemieke Mein: Wildlife Artist in Textiles», в которой содержатся иллюстрации 60 текстильных работ. "Белощекая цапля" (одна из первых работ, материал - многослойная шелковая органза, ) "Семейная" работа, изображающая 11 пушистых птенцов, появилась в книге «The Art of Annemieke Mein: Wildlife Artist in Textiles» только потому, что пользуется огромной популярностью на выставках.

Dagmar's Home: 8 Easy Valentine's Day Crafts and Decorating Ideas that are easy and fast.
Good morning! It is absolutely beautiful here. I hope it is where you are, too. In fact it has been for the last two days.... love it... need it! I think it's speeding up my healing process. So today, I want to show you what was exchanged in the Extraordinary Embroidery Sampler Swap for Silver Bella. Here is what I created for my sweet, sweet partner Virginia. (she doesn't have a blog, but I think she should! wink, wink, nudge, nudge) The photo isn't so great. It was really hard to get a decent picture of it, all in focus, because it turned out so dimensional. And, well honestly, I should have changed lenses... I'm so lazy. We filled out questionnaires about what colors, images, styles, etc. we prefer, at the beginning of the swap. I thought long and hard about this one before starting it, but then all of a sudden, one morning, it all just came together for me and I was able to really get started on it. I like how it turned out, but I did have to stop myself, at the end there, from adding too much and making the whole thing an overkill. It's pretty busy as is. Now for the beautiful piece Virginia made for me! I love it! I have hung it up on a frame that the Farmboy chicken wired for me a long time ago... the flowers in the top corner were already on the frame... not a part of the sampler, but they look so pretty with it. Don't they? I really like how she cut a heart out of a piece of fabric and then used the negative piece to put onto the sampler... I think that's brilliant! The lace, buttons, the little bird, the 3D elements... all of it is just wonderful! Oh! And the colors are perfect! Here it is a bit closer. I tried to get some good close ups of it, but... haha... you should have see it. The farmboy had already gone to work and the boys were still in bed sleeping and there I was, precariously standing on the couch clutching my belly pillow to my tummy and trying to take pictures of it this morning. And I had to do it right then, because it's the best light of the day in that room. I'm sure it was quite the sight! And quite typical of me... I hope the Farmboy doesn't read this post, or I'll be receiving a lecture later. Anywho, isn't it lovely?! I really enjoy stitching, but I have such a hard time getting started. You know, figuring out what to stitch. I think my brain is just too box in most times. And my stitching is still a little crude, I think. But I know that will improve with practice. This book has been a great help... so glad I purchased it. And I absolutely cannot wait for her new embroidery book to hit the shelves! Alright, I'll stop rambling on now. I hope you have a beautiful, beautiful day!

I wanted to stop by and share a few fraction freebies with you all. I love craftivities and always try to make any skill tie into a craft someway or another. There's just something about seeing a cute craft hanging up that makes your teacher heart smile big. This week we wrapped up our fraction unit with these Pot of Gold Fractions. Each student had to color and write the fraction under each flip. They also had to write if their fractions was halves or fourths on the clovers. Here are a few fraction craftivities that we made last year. You can find those here. One of my favorite things to use when teaching fractions is sticky notes. They work like a charm! There are TONS of different shapes, etc that can be used to make different fractions. Here is an example of how we used them to look at equal and unequal pieces. We also used them to create halves and fourths. You can read more on how we used sticky notes last year here. Happy Wednesday friends! I am officially on the countdown for Spring Break!! 2 more days!!

I've been wanting to do a weaving project with Ruby for awhile now...weaving a giant sun seemed like something that would totally appeal to her seven yr old sensibilities, and would appeal to this sun lovin' mamma as well! We started by collecting some sticks...4 of them cut into 4 foot lengths, laid into a star shape and then bound by twine, (actually, when I say "we" I mean, papa Toadstool did the work and I played my role as director and professional baby wrangler). Then we gathered up all the yellow material, roving, and yarn in the house. We cut our material into 2-3 inch strips, (then we attached the strips to make huge pieces by tying them together...you could also sew them together, but we like things easy here at the Toadstool)! We began ours by weaving in the roving first...I tied it to the first branch and then just went over and under the branches...pulling it tight as you go through each one. After the roving we started on the material. Doing it like a God'e Eye, (which is essentially what this is)...going under and over the first branch and then over and under on the next branch. Again...pull your material tight when you weave through each branch! We weaved until Ruby got sick of it, at which point we declared it was DONE!! Then this massive art piece went outside and into a tree...our own giant sun/art piece we can enjoy every day! I like that it will get weathered over the season and change...maybe birds will get bits of the yellow roving to use for their nests! This was a super fun project that we all enjoyed doing together...and a great BIG way to welcome the sun to your own backyard!! Here's Ruby with the finished "sun"...you can get an idea of how big it is!! Hope your day is sunny and bright! Maureen xo

Like many Korean families, artist Ema Shin’s relatives maintain a genealogy book called a jokbo, which illustrates their family tree. Shin’s ancestral record spans 32 generations, yet only male members of the family are represented. Born and raised in Japan, and currently based in Melbourne, Australia, the artist describes in a recent statement that “in the society that I was born and raised in, there was a prejudice between men and women, and their roles were predetermined. I spent the whole Day yesterday sewing!! I loved it. I am trying to get my squares done for "Clothesline Club". We are doing a block exchange and I had the hardest time deciding on my block. Some of the girls did theirs on their sewing machines and some did hand applique. I just couldn't decide. So I went with a little of both. I will share with you later what my block is... But it was the best day to just get to sew all day! I put "Murder She Wrote" in the DVD and had lots of tea! And Sewed and Sewed! Hope you had a great day too!!
