Hello and Welcome to Handmade by Julia Quinn. I'm part of a fantastic group of like minded crafters sharing inspiration in our monthly blog hop! This Month, we are sharing and featuring Watercolouring! Watercolouring is one of my favourite techniques - I can feel a bit artistic and not really need any skill!! The stamped images help do all the work for me! (And I do love the 'artistic look' of slightly messy watercolouring - no precision required!!) I'm featuring a NEW bundle/suite coming in our New Catalogue starting in May (perks of being a demonstrator is that I can get these things early!) called Country Woods. The background paper is the Country Woods DSP (and it has a look of watercolouring!!) and the stamp set is the Country Flowers stamp set. I've used watercolour paper and Saddle Brown stazon ink to stamp my images. I then added ink using a water painter. To add the ink, I smooshed my ink pad onto a stamping block, and then used my water painter to pick up the colour, water it down for changes in tone and shade, and then painted the image from the left to the right leaving some bits on the right side unpainted for light reflection. Inside the card is some more painted leaves and flowers just for fun!! Make sure you keep hopping to see LOTS of amazing projects!! I'm sure you'll love them all. Blog Hop Index Watercoloured Country Flowers Please head over to my online store if you wish to see these products in more detail - and you can place your order anytime (if you're in Australia) while you're there (even if you're in your pyjamas!!) And, if you can see yourself creating cards and sharing your love of papercrafts while inspiring others, perhaps you might be interested in joining my Stampin' Up! family - contact me to find out how.

I've been a busy girl these days: quilting, appliqueing, shooting a few books and ... watching some great high school baseball games. I set deadlines and goals for myself and when I meet a deadline or reach a goal I treat myself to a little crafting time. With the stained paper towels still sitting on my work table, I just...

I recently rediscovered the charm of little paper flexagons, known in the cardmaking world as never-ending or infinity cards. I find it fascinating to unfold each page, revealing the card maker’s vision beneath, until I magically end up back where I started. Infinity cards also make an ideal mixed-media substrate. I use them to make…

I had so much fun Crafting with You on Sunday evening. This is the perfect name for this Stamp Set and Bundle and is jam packed full of crafty stamps
I had a few customers and team members tell me that they often get frustrated understanding measurements for their card making so I decided to try and help. measurements and increments of measurements can be tricky to grasp more so when we work in inches. I will say right away I have a Youtube video linked just below where I visually go through this...so if like me you need to see to understand then click the link and watch. So we basically use either CMS or inches to measure when we are working in paper crafting. CMS are units and each of these is split into ten smaller units called Millimetres. We have 100 centimetres in one meter. Inches are more complicated.... So we have a length called a foot here instead of meters. Each foot is made of 12 inches and each inch is divided into 16 parts. Now mathematically these inch measurements fall into fractions and here is where some people get confused. If you look at the photo above for example where we would think we have 4 lots of 16 it becomes re named to quarter 1/4. And where we see 2 lots of 8 it also becomes a quarter 1/4. So it helps to learn basic fractions first and get them in your head right to understand your measurements. I also advise sticking to one set of measurements and those being the ones you are used to. I can tell you that 1 inch is roughly equivalent to 2.5 CMS .... but past full inches it becomes tricky so here is a link to a measurement converter for you to use. Book mark it and keep it safe use the arrows to change what unit you wish converting and hey presto MEASUREMENT CONVERTER I hope some of this helps again I do have a visual explanation on my YouTube so grab a brew, get comfy and enjoy the video. When I first started stamping I could never get a clear image with brand new stamps. I used quality paper and quality ink. What was the problem? I was informed by a stamping friend “You need to condition your stamps before using them.” Huh? Brand spanking new photopolymer stamps and red rubber stamps have super clean stamping surfaces. Ink doesn’t want to stick to the surface of the stamp. There are several ways to condition your stamps to make sure you get the best image possible.
I have some fancy folding for you today - 3-D Celtic Knot Embellishments. They look great in gold glimmer paper. The knots look impressively intricate - but you can learn to fold them with just a little practice. The basic knot shape is of one-piece construction, which is convenient --- and a nice party trick! All the knots work on the same principle: fold the "arms" to the centre, then swing the free side to the back. You can catch a hoop in the loops for an extra-fancy touch - loop-de-loop deluxe. Print the Celtic Knots template onto the wrong side of the paper, then cut and fold. There are tutorials for each shape of knot. There's also a download for a bag topper. The idea is that a cello pack of Celtic Knot embellishments would make a welcome gift for a calligrapher or card-maker: 3-D illuminated manuscripts! Fix the knots onto your project with sticky dots. Here are your downloads: CelticKnots.pdf CelticKnotBagTopper.pdf I've done tutorial sheets for the three knot shapes - the squares, the trefoils, and the hearts: If you'd like to learn how to design your own 2-dimensional Celtic Knots, these books by Sheila Sturrock are great: Celtic Knotwork Handbook Celtic Spirals Handbook Both books are from GMC Publications Ltd. Neither title is new - but they are worth tracking down. The first title is available used and new, the second is still in print. Each title de-mystifies the process of drawing Celtic Knots in a clear and user-friendly manner - and throws in a bit of history to boot. The books are intended for pencil-drawing, but if you've gone digital than the geometric principles still apply, of course. Have fun illuminating your manuscripts, gifts, or cards.
