Titanic, science, and STEM! Yes! This is a ready to use STEM lesson featuring the history of the Titanic. This lesson teaches children about the history of the Titanic and what happened that cold night in April! It also looks into the issues the boat faced with not having enough life jackets or lifeboats. With this challenge, we will focus on the water temperature and also look at hypothermia. After learning about both of these topics, students will be asked to engineer a life jacket that is able to keep the action figure above the water and also try to help keep body heat in (keep the body warm while in the frigid water) I have my students for 45 minutes at a time. This lesson gives you the challenge, suggested materials, and guides you through the process of getting kids ready to complete the challenge. This one is set-up to be used with 3rd through 5th grade. You could possibly extend it into a two or three week lesson activity. This does include a planning sheet. Please feel free to share any feedback. I have more resources if you feel this one was helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my resources! This resources includes the following: *Links to video on Titanic *Links to another video on Titanic *Links to video on hypothermia *Challenge *Constraints *Materials list *Planning *Possible science experiment if wanted *Planning Sheet for printing *Testing Slide *Teacher Notes *Student examples I create these resources to be used in my own classroom! I teach from this very same file! It is a good visual for students and if you were to be observed by administration. It helps to guide you with the lesson and gives the students a visual of what is expected. I work super hard on these lessons because I want my students to be engaged, have fun, and enjoy learning while they are in my classroom! I try to create real-world lessons where students have to engineer and design the solution. It also gives them something to take home to hopefully explain the "process" of what they learned to adults at home! Please feel free to ask my questions and leave helpful feedback!! Which number do you see? This set is ideal for introducing numbers in the first class! The large cards allow children to learn numbers in a creative imaginative, symbolic and meaningful way. These "Hidden numbers" cards can be printed recto verso in order to have the image on the front and the beautiful poetry on the back. The children can guess the hidden number observing the image. They can read the image on many levels (counting elements, listening to the poetry, finding numbers in shape and geometry); each child sees something different and when this happens is really magical! The "Hidden numbers" document can be printed in A3 format. The resolution and quality of the drawing are high (were originally made on A3 paper). Ideal to hang in the classroom after guessing, drawing and number writing. The small cards (8,5x11cm) can be introduced in a second moment to exercise and memorize the numbers and symbols. For example the children pick a card and have to say the number and show it with their fingers as fast as possible. This material is made by a Waldorf teacher with lots of love, first for the pupils, now for you.
