Earlier in the week I shared with you my tutorial for the Crunch Stitch, and today I have a fun and re-usable pattern to go with it! I love to use my sweeper mop because of how easy it is. When I ran out of the disposable cloths that came with it I didn't want to buy more. I wanted to make something I could re-use. I googled for patterns and didn't find what I had pictured in my head to use. There are so many great patterns out there, but my favorite stitch for washing and scrubbing is the crunch stitch. So I decided to make my own. The texture in the crunch stitch is why I love it for cleaning and the look of the uniformed stitches is an extra bonus. There are few stitches involved making it a great project to whip up quickly while watching your favorite show. Because they make up fast and affordably they make great gifts and inventory for a craft fair! Below I have used 24/7 Cotton by Lion Brand, but I have also used I Love This Cotton by Hobby Lobby for them in the past. They both have a great color selection, the yarn doesn't fade as much or as quickly as others I've tried, and it's nice and soft to work with. I used one skein to make one mop cover and still had 1/4 of the skein left over! When completed, these mop covers measure 10 inches long and 5 inches wide. To add a little extra flair I wrapped mine in these fun printable labels from The Knotty Boss! They make it perfect for giving as a gift or displaying in your shop/craft fair! Pattern PIN to save for later! Or grab the ad-free printable PDF in my Etsy or Ravelry shop! You may make and sell items made from this pattern but please do not sell, share or reproduce the actual pattern. If you sell finished items online (Etsy, etc) please provide a link to the pattern and credit to me as the designer, thank you. I hope you enjoy this pattern! This post contains affiliate links, please click here for more info. Thank you for supporting Grace and Yarn! Materials - - 130 yards of worsted cotton yarn - 4mm crochet hook - Scissors - Tapestry needle to sew/weave in ends - Stitch markers (optional, they can come in handy to keep rows even) US Abbreviations - Ch - Chain HDC - Half double crochet Sl st - Slip stitch SC - Single crochet Gauge - 22 rows should be a 5" x 5" square, adjust your hook size accordingly if your sample swatch is a different size (Example: Try going up a hook size if your swatch is smaller; Go down a hook size if your swatch is bigger.) Mop Cover- Chain 25 Row 1: *HDC in the 2nd ch from your hook, sl st in the next*, *repeat until the end of the row, ch 1 and turn (24 stitches) NOTE- Each row will always start with an HDC and end with a slip stitch. It can be handy to put a stitch marker in the last stitch of each row, this way when you reach the end you will easily see where your last stitch will go. Row 2: *HDC in the first stitch, sl st in the next*, *repeat until the end of the row, ch 1 and turn (24 stitches) Rows 3-76: Repeat row 2 Your work should measure 16 inches long by 5 inches wide. Do not fasten off, continue with border below. Border- SC around each of the four sides of your work, completing 2 SC in each corner. Assembly - Fold each side in 3 inches and sew the edges together to create a pocket. I sewed down through the stitches and back up the next to give it a nice layered look. Weave in your ends. Your mop cover is complete! My favorite way to use mine is to spray a small amount of my favorite cleaner onto the floor in front of me and then mop right over! I hope you have enjoyed making this pattern. Feel free to tag me on Instagram, I'd love to see your mop covers!

Blogged Also, posted to my neglected, lonely ETSY and Madeit.com.au shops...so they don't feel so empty now, poor things. ^_^
I've noticed lately that I've been getting quite a few hits on my blog from Pinterest... from a really old post about some things I made for a craft fair! Ha! ... it was such a long time ago, but the ideas are still quite cute. Well, based on one of those crafts, I made a tutorial( a year or so ago) about how to cover a photo mat with fabric. Today, I'd like to show you how to cover an old book in fabric... similar to another craft on that ancient post :) MATERIALS enough cotton fabric to cover the book you've chosen... I love using vintage fabric for old books an old book, preferably one that has a blank cover, as some titles or illustrations can show through spray glue -nothing beats 3M Super 77 found at Hobby Lobby or hardware stores a scissor - one you don't mind getting glue on Mod-podge small foam brush (you don't need a knife... I don't know why I put that in there, Ha!) 1. Lay out your book and cut a rectangle of fabric larger than the size of your book... 1 to 2 inches larger on all sides (you might want to iron your cut fabric at this point if it's creased or wrinkly). 2. Spray the back side of the fabric and the outside of the book with spray glue (not in the house!). Make sure you get a good coat... and don't forget the spine of the book. It works well to clip the piece of fabric to a wire hanger with clothes pins and stand the book, spine up, like a tent to spray. 3. Next, carefully lay your fabric out (glue side up!) and place your closed book on one end. Press book firmly down, checking to make sure the fabric is smooth and securely adhered to the book cover. 4. Carefully flipping the book over, while making sure the the spine keeps contact with the fabric, wrap the other side of the fabric around the front of the book. Once again, being careful to make sure there are no air bubbles or wrinkles in the fabric. Your book should look like this at the end of step 4. 5. Cut off all 4 corners of the fabric, leaving about 1/8 of an inch margin between the corner and the edge of the cut. 6. Make two cuts in the fabric by the spine. The cuts should line up with where the cover creases. Do this on both ends of the book. 7. Smooth the fabric over the edges of the cover on all sides. Pay special attention to the corners, making sure to pull the fabric tightly over the edges. Use Mod Podge if necessary to make sure the flaps are adhered completely. Your books should look like this at the end of step 7. 8. Add a very thing layer of Mod Podge to the left over tabs of fabric on either side of the spine. Then using a letter opener or a butter knife, push the tabs down into the little gap between the cover and the binding. 9. Add a little Mod Podge to the the corners of the book and use your fingers to push down the fabric (if necessary) to make a clean looking corner and keep them from fraying in the future. Let dry and display... :) YOU'RE GOOD TO GO! Blessings,

Ok, so the title might be a little misleading… we’ve actually crammed in 18 of the best Coptic Stitch (also known as the Chain Stitch or Coptic Sewing) book binding instructions and tutorials we could find on the web, along with a collection of video tutorials and many coptic-stitch related resources (PDF’s, Stitching Patterns, Photo Galleries etc) for you to get stuck in to – it took us a while to put this together but we hope it serves as a good resource for some of you out there. If you’ve got any suggestions for additional sites/resources we can include on this page then please leave a comment at the bottom of this page. We have also prepared several other collections for you: Top 15 Japanese Stab Binding Tutorials Top 10 Long Stitch Bookbinding Tutorials Top 10 Secret Belgian Binding Tutorials Top 10 Endband Tutorials Top 10 Box Making Tutorials For those a little unsure about what a the Coptic Stitch style actually is, we’ll give you a little intro: Coptic Binding by Henry Hebert Originally the coptic binding process was used by early Christians in Egypt (the Copts) some 2000 years ago and hence its name. A coptic stitch style binding (also often referred to as a Chain Stitch binding) is one that doesn’t use any glues and where the signature stitchings are generally exposed or left completely open thus allowing flexibility without sacrificing strength. Coptic stitched books generally allow the book to be opened up flat without weakening the spine or signatures. Modern glue based binding techniques are often prone to damage when opened flat and weaken with use, much quicker than books that are sewn in a coptic style fashion. Because the signature designs are normally left exposed on a chain stitch binding, many book binders decide to inject their own personal flare into the spine designs which can result in some very attractive looking books. People will often follow this style of binding for use on their journals or art sketch books. So, if you’ve ever wondered how to make a coptic stitch book using traditional bookbinding techniques then continue reading… all of the tutorials below are different in some way or another and I would strongly advise going through at least a few of them to get the best understanding of the binding processes. Enjoy 😀 #1 – Coptic Stitch Bookbinding Tutorial In this coptic stitch bookbinding tutorial, Linda Tieu takes you through how to make your own hard back book journal using very clear and concise photographs.
