Countdown to Easter this season with the best Easter STEM activities for kids or junior scientists! So many fun ideas!
I know many of you are so close to the end of the school year, but here in NY, we are just starting our countdown! Today was our first day of our ABC Countdown to the End of the Year...aka Summer Vacation! I had some fun Alphabet Clips from Dancing Crayon Designs that were screaming to be used and they worked out PERFECT for our countdown door- they look like they are 'in lights!' I originally went to school for Art Therapy and had wanted to be an art teacher, so 'art' is near and dear to my heart. Today was all about creative juices...and boy were they flowing! Through the year I have a scrap bucket- it gets picked at, but never has it seen the LOVE it got today! The kids were SHOCKED that I literally DUMPED it in our meeting area- and then told them to make WHATEVER they wanted! At first it was a MAD DASH for the bits of gold, neon and other 'specialty' scraps, but that quickly faded and the real creating came into play! Look at some of these creations: Each were as unique as the next! As much as I would have LOVED to keep them and hang them, I never let them take projects home the day we create them, so I knew it was only fair to say 'and don't put them out in the hall- leave them at your seat because you are taking them home today!' WHAT? WHAT did she just say? We can REALLY take them home?! YES! I wanted them to share their art with their families for A is for Art Day! At the end of the day we put a 'check' on 'A' to show it was done (I SOOO love crossing things off a list- checks are just as good!) I had thought about ripping each letter off, but thought it would be more meaningful for them to see what we had done and how much more we have to go. I know you may be WELL past your '26 day countdown' but I did put my template (copy of what I used and a blank editable copy) as well as the fun countdown letters (and a clip art 'check' [I had made mine from construction paper] into a FREE download! You may not be able to use it this year, but simply pin this image to remind you for next year: and it will bring you right back to this post where you can find the download! I'd like to credit and thank the following clip artists and font creators that I used in the free download: Dancing Crayon Designs (ABC Clipart) Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Designs (Summer Border) Educlips (Check Clipart) KG Fonts (KG Miss Kindergarten and KG Red Hands Fonts) Tomorrow we are ready for a fun BINGO day for 'B'! I am hoping to take pictures and post our most 'glorious' days to share with you all! Enjoy your last few days, weeks or month with your students! Until next post,
Yes, it is that time of year where teachers are beginning the countdown to summer. For me it is 26 days of FUN!!! When we begin, we are in celebration mode. It is about making the last few weeks of school memorable, exciting and educational. For me, the countdown begins April 30th. I have created an editable document that you can use. the activities are already designed all you need to do is add your own dates. Please note that this is to be printed on legal 8.5x14 paper. To make the last few weeks not be another huge expense, I post a donation wish list for parents. I ask for things like bubbles, donut holes, cookies, popcorn, and whatever else we will be needing. I have a parent message board outside of my classroom. This is where I post any important information or requests. On our last day, we do not have a kindergarten graduation or promotion. We found that with 5 classes it is just too chaotic and the parents are truly disrespectful. The last time we did it we kept having to stop and ask our audience to be quiet so they could hear the names being called. We asked them not to bring presents and balloons, but that fell on deaf ears. Then we had the kids who didn't have anyone in the audience. The look on their faces as they scanned the audience hoping to see someone there to congratulate them broke my heart. So last year we had a special movie day. We did not tell the parents what we would be doing. Instead we surprised our students with movie passes and coupons for popcorn and a drink. We set up our multi-use room as if it were a theater and showed our students a movie. We made a big production out of it and tried to make it a special event. I'm not sure if we will do it again this year. We have a team meeting Monday to discuss the end of the year activities. It is sometimes difficult to get 5 people to agree without making anyone feel as if they have been pressured into just going along. This week will be a super busy week for me. Tuesday, my family will be coming over to celebrate my birthday. Luckily my husband offered to cook and host the occasion rather than trying to go out to dinner with my family. Thursday is Open House so Wednesday will be a late night getting the last minute details finished and doing a room clean-up. I have a gazillion things to do this week. Is it Friday yet? This time of year just seems so busy and this beautiful Spring weather has given me Spring Fever.
It’s been a while since I’ve shared my week, so here I am! :o) Fingers and Toes Day was today!! For those of you that have no clue what that means, we can officially count down to the last day of school on our fingers and toes! :o) We are in full swing of our […]

Hi there! Remember me? My name is Halle. I teach 2nd Grade. AndIamsobusywhenwillsummerbeheresoIcanfinallycatchabreath? Seriously. I have been so absent. It’s mostly because we are house hunting. Still. Still! We found a house. It was the perfect house for us. The papers were printed. All we had to do was go to work, then come to sign the papers. I made sure to bring home my favorite work pen. Then we got outbid. And we couldn't bid any higher. I’m not exaggerating when I say it was tragic. That was almost 3 weeks ago and I still get sick if I really think about it. I know, I know everything happens for a reason, but the little house that almost was seemed like it was built just for us. Well, it was built before we were born, but that doesn’t count. It was still built with us in mind. Then a few days ago we thought we found a pretty decent runner-upper. Until we found out this morning that it’s under contract. This is hard people! What happened to the buyer’s market?!!!! We come home from work {which, as you know, is exhausting the last few weeks} and then we either go out looking at houses with our realtor, or I waste hours upon hours on Trulia and Zillow, then Trulia, then Zillow, then Trulia… I am so ready to find a house, and I hope it happens SOON, and that is the end of that story… Now, on to other important news. We have 15 days left. Yes 15. Our last day is on a Monday. I know, right?!?!? Luckily, this week should go by pretty quickly. We’re off today, and we have our field trip tomorrow {I know, poor planning on our part}. Last year, I was inspired by The Teacher Wife to do a balloon countdown the last week or so of school. We had such fun with it, that I am so excited to do it again this year, only bigger and better! Click the pictures to grab them if you’d like, or check out The Teacher Wife’s here. Most of these are pretty self-explanatory, but let me elaborate on a few, will you? For Lemonade Day, we’ll be doing activities from my friend Aimee’s packet. I am so excited to do the activities from this packet with my kiddos. Read all about the activities included in this unit here. For Bubble Day, we’ll be using a few activities from Abby’s packet: This looks so stinkin’ adorable. I might be more excited than my second graders will be. For Silly Seating Day the kids will be able to put their desks wherever they want in the room! I’m sure that will be very interesting and not at all a fire hazard. {I kid, I wouldn’t let that happen!} For RACK Day, we’ll be committing some “random acts of classroom kindness” which we did a lot of around Christmas. I plan on doing some baking and letting the kids write notes to various staff members and deliver our goodies. You know smiles and fuzzy feelings all around! I think you can figure out the rest. If you’re still in school like I am, I strongly suggest some sort of countdown. If not for the kids, for your own sanity. As much as I love my kiddos, these last few weeks can DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG. And now to my announcement: I am going to be hosting a weekly summer linky party!!! {I hope you weren’t expecting something more exciting…because I think this is pretty exciting!} I really, really…really, really… hope you’ll join up from week to week to share your favorite things! There’s really no rules, just let us know your favorite things in each category so we can all find new favorite things. Yay!!! I created a schedule of sorts for those of you who like to plan ahead: It starts NEXT Thursday! I hope to see you there! Enjoy your Memorial Day and remember to take time to thank those who defend our country and remember those who lost their lives fighting for our freedom. God Bless America! ~Halle
