Cottage gardens are intentionally casual. Go big on color, but light on labor with this classic, informal garden style.
In the heart of the Burgundy wine region of France you'll find the lovely town of Beaune.
Let's escape to some beautiful places for a little while....maybe a pretty little stone bridge deep in the woods or city park... or patio side of a pot of succulents... And sit on the garden steps... near the pleasant scent of a pile of blooms... or where ever you want to be for just a few minutes.
Hello everyone, Our little enclosed rose garden surrounding the south side of the Gardener's Cottage was a mass of blooms last week but the heavy rain we had seem to have the rose petals falling to the ground a bit prematurely so I didn't have a lot of time to linger under the bower of roses. It is a sweet spot to enjoy an afternoon with a book and a cup of tea.The old vintage chaise is very comfortable too-check it out! The angel statue was gift from my children-they sure know how to please their Mama! I always dreamed of having a bower of roses spilling over an arbor. Rose petals are covering the grass as they fall. There is also a beautybush (behind the angel) giving more pink blossoms. Therese Bugnet In behind the cottage are more roses as you saw in my last post. The beautybush Hope you have time to smell the roses today! Thank you for visiting, Carolyn
I promised you some further garden images taken in the Cotswolds - since then I have been to York, but that is for another time! Here are some I took in a few famous gardens - A sheltered sunken part of the garden at Kiftsgate A recent modern garden at Kiftsgate A pretty vista at Hidcote It was rather difficult taking pictures at Hidcote as there were lots of visitors getting in the way! A favourite view at Snowshill - one of my favourite gardens! Snowshill again - just look at all the people! I love this view of Snowshill, but other visitors got in the picture! Sudley Castle - just look at that awful red sign! The rambler rose is Shropshire Lass I think? Sudley Castle again - outside the church where Queen Katherine Parr is buried - a white garden! Now something from my garden - we are in the middle of a heatwave and the flowers are not lasting, so I'm picking them! Here are some displayed in Emma Bridgewater's Hearts and Flowers patterned pots. Hope you enjoyed? I'm off to have a shower to try to cool down, I simply hate the heat, it's just not British!

Quilts! Sewing! Books! Life!
Ik ga nu me voorbereiden voor ons quiltweekend a.s vrijdag.
Yesterday was a warm and sunny day, just right for visiting gardens and one of my favourite gardens happened to have an open day in aid of charity. It is in a magical valley in the Cotswolds in the tiny village of Dundisbourne Rouse not far from Cirencester. This is the Old Rectory- it doesn't lean it's my photography! Lady Mary Keen is a garden guru of long standing. She has written many books, one of which describes how she designed this particular garden after buying the house and clearing the site. It couldn't have been an easy process because the garden slopes quite steeply in places but it has the most wonderful atmosphere and though it looks artless, it has strongly designed bones supporting the abundant colourful planting. St Michael's Church which dates from 11th or early 12th century, adjoins the garden of the Rectory Inside the little School House which once belonged to the Church. This is now a Garden Room with facilities for garden visitors to make a cup of tea and enjoy reading about the garden - it is a delight! A view of the former School House across the Olympic Flower Meadow This wild flower meadow was planted with a mix of Sarah Raven's flower meadow seeds which are planted at the Olympic Park. Another view of the School House You can see from the green lushness in these pictures that we have had a tremendous amount of rain but at last the sun is shining so hopefully there will be more flowering and less foliage. Do hope that these pictures give you a flavour of a wonderful English garden. I came away inspired and replete with scones and cream served at the lovely old kitchen table facing a very interesting china filled dresser. I would have loved to have taken a picture but I felt that it would have been an invasion of privacy.

Imagine sitting in the garden of an adorable British cottage in the countryside, enjoying a cup of tea while admiring the blossoming flower beds sun-kissed by the warm, Spring sun. Karen Cunningham’s book A Ladies’ Garden evokes exactly that same spirit! We are proud to have published her first book in which 15 of her quilts, complete with pattern instructions, are richly accompanied by inspiring photos, bringing a sumptuous garden into your home. Karen has a knack for combining appliqué with pieced blocks in such an elegant way, whether it be as a centerpiece for her quilts or to adorn her organic and wavy borders. English Paper Piecing is one of her recurring techniques and her book includes an entire chapter dedicated to this quilting favorite! There are 15 projects in this book. The instructions and patterns are included.

Two-tone red and cream flowers brighten the garden through autumn and winter, and make the local birds happy too.
