¡Hola amigos! Gracias por leernos, la entrada del día de hoy es sobre "El Pasado Simple del Verbo "To be", uno de los verbos más irregulares de la lengua inglesa y que tiene "personalidad" propia. Recordemos que el verbo "To be" (ser, estar) en presente simple tiene estas conjugaciones: I am: Yo soy o estoy He, She, it is: El, Ella, Eso es o está We, You, They are: Nosotros, usted o ustedes están o son En Pasado Simple del verbo "To be" únicamente usamos dos conjugaciones was, were. En pasado podemos traducirlo como "era" o "estaba" con sus variaciones según el sujeto que le corresponda. Usamos el Pasado Simple del verbo "To be" para hablar sobre cosas que existieron o sucedieron en el pasado, además para describir estados, sentimientos, personas o cosas. En la siguiente imagen podemos ver la conjugación del verbo para cada uno de los sujetos. ORACIONES AFIRMATIVAS Para hacer oraciones afirmativas usamos la siguiente estructura. Sujeto + was + complemento. ⬇ ⬇ ⬇ I, he, she, it was in my class yesterday. Ejemplos: She was with me yesterday. / Ella estuvo conmigo ayer. He was at home yesterday. / El estuvo en casa ayer. I was happy yesterday. / (yo) Estaba feliz ayer. My dog (it) was my best friend. / Mi perro fue mi mejor amigo. Sujeto + were + complemento. ⬇ ⬇ ⬇ We, you, they were friends. We were friends since I was 10. / Éramos amigos desde que tenía 10 años. You were my best friend at school. / Eras mi mejor amigo en la escuela. They were happy yesterday. / (ellos-as) estaban felices ayer. ORACIONES NEGATIVAS Para hacer oraciones negativas usamos was-were + not. La contracción (forma corta) es was not = wasn't / were not = weren't. Sujeto + was not (wasn't) + complemento. ⬇ ⬇ ⬇ I, he, she, it was not (wasn't) in my class yesterday. Ejemplos: She was not (wasn't) with me yesterday. / Ella no estuvo conmigo ayer. He was not (wasn't) at home yesterday. / El no estuvo en casa ayer. I was not (wasn't) happy yesterday. / (yo) No estaba feliz ayer. My dog (it) was not (wasn't) my best friend. / Mi perro no era mi mejor amigo. Sujeto + were not (weren't) + complemento. ⬇ ⬇ ⬇ We, you, they were not (weren't) in my class yesterday. We were not (weren't) at Peter's house yesterday. / No estábamos en la casa de Peter ayer. You were not (weren't) the tallest student in you class. / No fuiste el estudiante más alto en tu clase. They were not (weren't) here at two o'clock. / (ellos-as)No estaban aquí a las 2 en punto. INTERROGACIONES Para hacer interrogaciones lo que hacemos en colocar was / were al inicio de la oración y cerramos con signo de interrogación (?). Was / were + sujeto + complemento ? Was I, she, he, it in class yesterday? Respuesta corta. Yes, I, she, he, it was. No, I she, he, it wasn't. Were we, you, they in class yesterday? Respuesta corta. Yes, we / you / they were. No, we / you / they weren't. Ejemplos: Was she in London last week? / ¿Estuvo (ella) en Londres la semana pasada? Yes, she was. No, she wasn't. Were you tired yesterday? / ¿Estabas cansado ayer?
