American Brilliant Period Cut Glass Shallow low bowl Circa 1900-1920 J.Hoare & Company, Corning, NY Established 1853 This period of glass making from about 1877 to WW1 is known for hand cut crystal with deep design cutting producing brilliant light reflection. Beautiful miters in arching star shapes with central hobstar and strawberry design elements. These pieces were used in the home only afforded by the wealthy. As such, this antique comes with age and pre-owned use. There are a couple of tooth chips that I’ve tried to show in the photos. It does not detract from its beauty or use. Many will use as place for chocolates, relishes, trinkets, or a display in your cabinet. An excellent example of this time period. less

The authors of Organizational Architecture present new and innovative approaches to designing and structuring organizations, approaches that are now being developed and tested in some of the most well respected companies in the United States. Based on over ten years of consulting with such corporate leaders as AT&T, Corning, Alcoa, American Express, Xerox, and PepsiCo, the authors reveal emerging techniques for answering the challenges senior managers face today--challenges to improve organizational quality, create powerful long-range strategies, tighten operations, and inspire team performance. Organizational Architecture presents a proven model for understanding organizations and demonstrates how the model can be used to effect positive change in both formal and informal organizational systems. It shows how to expertly manage mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and high-performance work systems. It also explains how to bring about enhanced organizational learning, increased risk-taking behavior, and improvements in total quality management strategy. The book gives advice on designing the most effective role for senior management. It recommends a strategic selection process for staffing executive teams, presents a model for executive team effectiveness, and tells how to help executive teams develop collaborative strategy. Finally, it presents ten common misconceptions that ensure corporate decline and summarizes the roles strategy, design, quality, and learning can play in improving corporate competitiveness.
Overwhelmingly, the Blue Cornflower emblem is known as the decoration found on Corning Ware cookware since 1958. Not just a pattern, the "little blue flower" also was adopted as a company logo. For a short time, Corelle was decorated with a variation of this familiar design, but it did not debut until well after the Corning Ware pattern's 1988 discontinuance. Corning Ware cookware was introduced in 1964 with the Buffet Server product line. Advertising described it as elegant, versatile and timeless, complementing "both traditional and contemporary, formal and informal table settings". The development of this line was prompted by consumer surveys that discovered "an increase in informal buffet style entertaining", and also responded to "interest in larger oven-to-table serving dishes. The Steuben Glass Company was founded in 1903 by T.G. Hawkes and Frederick Carder in Corning, New York. The company was purchased by Corning Glass Works in 1918 but continued to be directed by Carder until 1933. Steuben Glass became known for fancy colored glassware, particularly a type with an iridescent, translucent finish called Aurene. Another specialty was Intarsia glass, crystal glassware with soft, overlapping color inlays. In the 1930's, the firm began making glassware from a new colorless lead crystal developed by Corning. In 2008, Schottenstein Stores Corp. bought the company, however Steuben struggled financially and in September 2011, closed the glassworks. George Thompson, a little-known but highly respected Steuben glass designer joined the Steuben Glass firm's design department upon its formation in 1936. Thompson's designs were included in every Steuben Glass exhibition held from 1937 until his retirement in 1974. His works are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Palais du Louvre in Paris, and the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi. This Steuben Glass George Thompson Centerpiece Compote in pattern #7884 was manufactured by Steuben Glass and made in the USA during the 1940's as confirmed by the design and the etched "Steuben" signature on the base (see photos). The compote which weighs two pounds and measures 5.0" tall with a 2.0" stem and a 10.0" diameter opening with 3.25" diameter base is in very good condition with minimal scratches and no chips or cracks. This Steuben Glass George Thompson Centerpiece Compote would make a wonderful addition to a vintage collection of art glass or add beauty and elegance to any formal dining affair! To ensure safety in shipping, the compote will be packed securely in a sturdy box, then packed in a second box and shipped USPS Priority Mail which includes tracking and insurance. Extra insurance will be added to cover the full value of the compote. Please consider viewing other antique and vintage items in my shop. Winner of the Hagley Prize in Business History from The Hagley Museum and Library and the Business History ConferenceSelected by Choice Magazine as an Outstanding Academic TitleOriginally published in 1999. Imagining Consumers tells for the first time the story of American consumer society from the perspective of mass-market manufacturers and retailers. It relates the trials and tribulations of china and glassware producers in their contest for the hearts of the working- and middle-class women who made up more than eighty percent of those buying mass-manufactured goods by the 1920s. Based on extensive research in untapped corporate archives, Imagining Consumers supplies a fresh appraisal of the history of American business, culture, and consumerism. Case studies illuminate decision making in key firms--including the Homer Laughlin China Company, the Kohler Company, and Corning Glass Works--and consider the design and development of ubiquitous lines such as Fiesta tableware and Pyrex Ovenware.
