I've mentioned before that I have always liked to color. Copic Markers have become an addiction. On various blogs and Pinterest sites, I saw bins that had been customized to hold these markers in an upright position so that you can easily read the color name and number. My husband is very handy with projects like this so I showed him examples. The large bins began with a ArtBin (brand name) Super Satchel Double Deep. I bought one at Joann's with a 50% off coupon months ago. The examples I showed hubby Bill used plastic lighting grates to to hold the markers. He willingly went to Home Depot (not as if I needed to twist his arm to go there!), measured and cut a piece of grate to fit the bin. The bin has slightly sloping sides with a ledge inside where the handle is located. This ledge was perfect for holding the grate on that side, but something would be needed on the opposite side. Hesitant to drill into the plastic, Bill experimented with various props but none pleased him. He also felt that another grid would be needed at or near the bottom to keep the markers from slouching. Ok, technically markers don't slouch, but the would lean. During this process, I learned of a smaller bin being sold that would hold markers. I priced it at a scrapbooking store. It was roughly $22 for a bin that was half as wide as mine and had a grid that would hold 64 markers. The grid covered half the bin which is ok if you wanted something stored in the other half, but not ideal if you have become addicted to Copics. An additional grid could be purchased for $8. I came out empty handed. Back online, looking for more helpful hints for this project, I discovered that ArtBin sells the grid, correctly called a tray, that fits in their products. I ordered 4 of them from Dick Blick (www.dickblick.com) for less than what the smaller bin with an additional tray would cost. I do not fault the local store for their pricing which was inline with other stores. I really do try to shop locally but occasionally a better deal online means more money in my wallet to support the local stores with other purchases. This photo shows the difference in the tray and the lighting grid. The tray offers just enough depth to keep the markers upright. The ArtBin Super Satchel Double Deep comes with removable dividers. The long one that runs from handle side to hinge side is used with the trays. I have 70-some markers so far, sorted by color families. I anticipate these families will grow throughout the coming year. The trays are easily removed if I ever decide to store markers elsewhere and use this bin with the original dividers or just as one large, deep bin. Knitty

Hey everyone! This week's Bellarific Friday was ANYTHING BUT A CARD. I'm so excited to show you my copic journal featuring, who else, but Callista Loves To Craft... I've been wanting to do a copic journal forever! I've finally got round to it and here it is- ta dah! I'm actually planning on doing 2 journals: this one which has copic combos for specific things e.g. eye colour, skin colour etc. and one for pure colour combos arranged by copic colour grouping. So for this journal I used the Xpress It Blending Journal. The front is decorated using Callista Loves To Craft and she is coloured with copics (!) I squealed when I first saw this image. I just knew I had to have it! Papers are by Pink Paislee. Lettering is done using MFT dies. I laminated the whole decorated cover (I knew it would be used loads and I didn't want it to get too dog-eared) and then stuck it to the front of the journal using some heavy duty glue. Here's a closer look at Callista. Sorry, the image isn't as clear as it would normally be because it is laminated. Here's a side view showing you how I've divided up the journal. The journal is divided into 12 sections (with a little room at the end for a couple more sections). These sections are: Eyes, Skin, Hair, Clothes (specifics as in jeans), Skies, Snow, Water, Foliage, Wood, Metals, Fur and Light. Big shout out to Michelle who is THE Storage/Organizational Queen!! She used these fab sticky Durable Quick Tabs on some of her storage posts so I thought "They look fab, I'll have some of those"!!! A massive shout out to the VERY generous Sas who has created a huge number of templates suitable for us copic lovers to experiment with. They were just what I was looking for! Here's the skin tone one. Example of some hair colours Metals Fur Anyway, hope you liked a sneaky peek at the beginnings of my copic journal. Next week's Bellarific Challenge is a sketch (below). To create the desaturated colors that Copic Marker does not make, Vanilla Arts Company teaches Online Workshops using the underpainting method. Hi everyone! I had some request about a hair tutorial so today I will show you my way of colouring hair step by step. Here´s an image I drew with a black pencil, sorry about the poor quality of it.. I don´t have the technology to make it into a clean digi ;p You can use this image as you want. Copics needed: E50, E53, E57, E49. The only thing to practice is THIN LINES!!! First color a SMALL part of the hair with E50. Then make quick light-handed strokes with E57 following the shape of the hair. Don´t try to make the lines even! Some are long, some are short! Narrow ONLY THE TIP of the darker lines with E53 (don´t try to blend anything just continue the line to make it narrower and longer) New strokes with E49... I made them too thick here =p try to be more light-handed ;) Soften the tip of the dark strockes with E57. (Don´t worry if it doesn´t look good now, you can always get back to it in the end) Great! Let´s colour another part of the hair. Same thing, start with E50 and make some strokes with E57 by following the shape of the hair. Continue narrowing the tip of the lines with E53. E49 And soften the dark lines with E57 and the tips with E53 if needed. Now another area =) E50 and E57 following the shape of the hair... so toward the ponytail! Then the same lines with E49 And soften with E57. New area! E50 and E57 following the shape of the hair toward the ponytail. E49 Soften with E57 And soften ONLY the tip of the line with E53 Now another area! First E50 then strockes with E57 following the shape. E49 Soften with E57 and E53... You can play with the strokes until you are happy with it! So more E49 and E57 ;)) The ponytail! Same pattern... E50 and E57. E49 Soften with E57 and then only the tips with E53 Almost finished! The rest of the ponytails.. That´s it! Hope this helped =)
A common question I’m asked often is how to change Copic nibs – when do you do it? What’s the process? And how do you refill Copic markers? Today’s very short video will talk about both! Supplies are linked at the end of this post. Important tip! In case it didn’t come through clearly enough in […]
