I’ve been singing All too well and Come back.. be here (Taylor’s version) on top of my lungs for quite some weeks now. And guess what, knowing that it’s Taylor's version made the entire experience even more unique. And you know what I thought? Well, if Taylor Swift can re-record the exact same song and make the entire experience even better, why can’t we just repurpose our content?! . And you know why she can do that? Because it’s hers (finally), just like the content you create is yours (if you did it well from the start). If you are a small business owner, a student, a full-time mom, or you know just trying to survive, you probably already have lots going on on your plate. You create the content, publish the content, design the content, share and market the content,… on top of your first job or whatever occupation you have on the side. And there’s where the struggle is. See most companies you probably look up to, or even influencers, have teams fully dedicated to these particular tasks. But you still need to give the best work out there on your own, and that’s when repurposing comes in handy. Working hard is cute, but working smart, that is a real flex. I am a Taurus, which means that by nature I’m a dreamer and the most hardworking lazy bitch out here. Of course, I was gonna find ways to make my work life a bit easier with some shortcuts. Of course, it makes me a firm believer in repurposing and reusing your content. And as a Swiftie, how not to use Red (Taylor’s version) as the perfect introduction and comparison for this article, and show you why repurposing and reusing your content should be part of your strategy. As I said, whether you are working by yourself or with a team, full-time or not, creating content and finding new inspiration can be time-consuming. That’s why you need to reuse the content you create. You may remember every single content you create and post, but the good and bad news is that your audience doesn’t. First of all, we all get daily hundreds of content thrown to our faces, so we tend to forget even the best content out there. Secondly, even if we read content and let’s say, save it to read, use, or reapply it later, the chance is pretty high that we forgot about it. I mean, how many of your Pins you have thoroughly pinned into one of your Pinterest boards, have you read and then applied in your life? Yeah, that’s what I thought. Resharing that content could help remind one of your readers of that one specific content they once saved and never actually used. Maybe this time they might have a bit more time to read it, which could eventually lead to a sale if you’re selling a product or service, or just create more engagement on your socials. Finally, the time has changed since Instagram showed the content chronologically and you got to see ALL the pictures that your friend puts on the internet. Now, whether it is Instagram, TikTok, or any other platform, each one of them has an algorithm and decides who gets to see your content. It’s not because you post something that every single person following you was on their phone or computer at that time and was shown your content. Remember that according to marketing, someone needs to see a message 7 times before retaining the information, so make sure to reuse your content so your audience gets the message. Thus repurposing will not only help you save time but could also help you increase your audience, sales and engagement. Now the real question is how to reuse that content. Make sure the content is yours Seems logical, but sometimes even the most logical things need to be repeated a few times. Anyways, we all tend to get a little bit of inspiration here and there, but we should all be like Taylor, and create our own content. Because as long as the content is yours, you can reuse it again and again. Create evergreen content So now you created your content, now it’s time to make sure it is evergreen. Meaning that your content retains the interest and is continually relevant. For example, once the hype around All Too well the 10 minutes version and our common hate for Jake Gyllenhaal ends, (although I believe this hype should never end), the content and tips shared in this blog post will still be relevant to any content creator out there. Adapt if needed If you don’t feel confident reusing the same content, you could try to adapt and edit it a little bit. You could for example change the images you use, which could also be a sort of A/B testing, and see what kind of images attract more. Or for example, if you do a top 10 of your favorite podcast of this month or year, this could change next year and instead of dedicating a whole new article or post when only 2 or 3 podcasts have been added to that list, you could just add a little update to that article mentioning your new favorites. That way, you don’t need to create a new article every time but reuse the same, and keep traffic going to the same pages throughout the years. This is a really good thing for the SEO (well I guess, as I’m still learning the basics of SEO). Share across platforms Once you hit that publish button, there are so many ways and places you can push that content through. A blog post can easily become a newsletter, a Pinterest post, an Instagram post promoting the post, but I’m sure some phrases could even turn into quotes for again Instagram, Twitter, etc. And if you are not into blogging, if you record a YouTube video, you could make snippets for Instagram posts, reels, stories, Tiktok, and even extract the audio and make a podcast out of it. And then if you decide to republish that a few months later, it makes it the double of content. All that content from what was once one content. By sharing across different platforms, you may even attract a different audience. For example, I enjoy listening to a podcast, and if the podcast is really good I might even go follow the hosts on Instagram and what they have a book? Imma add it to my shopping cart. Boom, they have grown their audience, make money from the podcast, and sold a book. Just because they were on different platforms. In my case, how could I reuse this post? Well, once this post will be on the blog, I will use the images on Pinterest to generate traffic to the blog, I will then promote the post on Instagram and then use some of the quotes here such as “Working hard is cute, but working smart, that is a real flex ” and “If Taylor Swift can rerecord Red (Taylor’s version), you can surely reuse your own content” as quote post on social media. And when Taylor decides to record her next album again, I will reshare this post and social media content without any guilt. remember, it’s your content, your version, just that.
