Taken at the start of 2019. A little backstory to this image: I woke into the new year in the middle of a redwood forest in Northern California with an itch to run barefoot over the moss and squeeze my body into gaps in the trees in search of inspiration. Having shot almost exclusively in a studio setting for most of the last year, the return to making photos outdoors felt almost foreign and a bit frustrating. I’d grown so used to the control I have in an indoor setting over the light and temperature and atmosphere, which can all change so quickly out on location- but it was a welcome change of pace. I left feeling rejuvenated by the quiet of the trees, the dirt and scrapes from the bark on my body. I didn’t know if I’d even gotten any pictures I could turn into anything usable- but still felt like the time spent was worthwhile if only to remind me how much I love shooting outdoors, ya know? (Turns out I got something I liked in the end anyway, so it was a win-win haha)
