A rare vintage keychain of the Ohid congregation of Istanbul, Turkey. The reverse side features the Traveler's Prayer transliterated in the Turkish alphabet. The historic synagogue was built by Romaniotes (Greek Jews), dating back to the 1430s, from the city of Ohrid (called 'Ahrid' in Greek) in what was then the Ottoman Empire and is now North Macedonia. Sephardi Jews arrived in the Ottoman Empire from the Iberian peninsula beginning in 1492, and soon were a larger group of Jews in population than the Romaniotes. The Romaniotes of Istanbul, as in many communities, became assimilated into the Sephardic culture and adopted the Sephardic liturgy as well as the language of the Sefardim, Judezmo. The synagogue building, one of the two ancient synagogues in Istanbul's Golden Horn, was renovated in 1992 by the Quincentennial Foundation, in celebration of the 500th anniversary of Sephardic Jews' arrival in the Ottoman Empire. Family Diversity Unit Slides Presentation Divorce Adoption LGBTQ Parents - Do your student's come from a variety of diverse families? Young students often wonder and question whether other students have similar or different family structures to their own. This bundle includes a PowerPoint Presentation (which includes 30 slides on family diversity) and 14 interactive worksheets on the same topic. Both the worksheets and PowerPoint Presentation aim to provide clarity for students on the various types of families that exist within a school community. This resource deliberately aims to be inclusive towards all families -- whether a student comes from a family with two parents, one parent, grandparents or same-sex parents. Additionally topics like divorce and adoption are defined and students are given the opportunity to reflect and discuss their personal connections or experiences with these topics.
