Let me tell you about my favorite cooperative learning strategy. This strategy is the Jigsaw Method. Now, I have been using the Jigsaw Method since I was a student myself, but just didn't know the name of it, and I would bet that you are using some form of it as well.
This lesson is designed for a Christian Homeschool Co-op with students ages K-13 as a supplement to the curriculum the students normally follow. The lesson should last approximately 30 minutes. A bible verse introduces the lesson. The main topic is whale communication. Pretty simple and fun activities. Varying age groups are able to work together in the activities. The activities are chosen specifically taking into account that you don’t want to spend a lot of money and/or you may not have access to certain materials. Included in this lesson: A teacher guide so that the teacher can share a bible verse, and then discuss with students. Teacher guide and materials sheet to start the lesson, which brings in a science topic. This dice game is used to encourage conversations and practice family vocabulary terms. Students roll the dice, find the conversation topic and talk for 1 - 2 minutes about that topic.
