Blow the dust off winter with blooms gone wild, bike trips, gushing falls, and more on these spring break getaways throughout the West.
My rafting trips in the Grand Canyon have become quite popular and this year I added an additional 7-day trip to my regularly scheduled 10-d...
Grand Canyon National Park is dominated by the spectacular Grand Canyon; a twisting, 1 mile/ 1.6km deep and 277 mile/ 433km long gorge, formed during some six million years of geological activity and erosion by the Colorado River on the upraised earth's crust. The river divides the park into the North Rim and South Rim which overlook the 10 mile/ 16km wide canyon. The buttes, spires, mesas and temples in the canyon are in fact mountains looked down upon from the rims. On-going erosion by the seasonal and permanent rivers produces impressive waterfalls and rapids of washed-down boulders along the length of the canyon and its tributaries. There are over 100 named rapids. Exposed horizontal geological strata in the canyon span some 2,000 million years of geological history, providing evidence of the four major geological eras; late Precambrian, Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic. (click here to start at the beginning, then click "Newer Post" at the bottom) After a wonderful morning seeing the Broadmoor Hotel, we had lunch with friends, drove through Garden of the Gods, and took a tour of the US Olympic Training Center! We FINALLY got to eat at Chipotle! We'd been wanting to for years, but we don't have them in Mississippi. (We do have Moe's, which is very similar.) It was SO good! We got to meet our friend Lizzy's mom, Mrs. Cindy, and her brother, Matthew! We got to know Lizzy last fall when she rode with us to a Bible study (she and her husband, Jeremiah, were at Keesler AFB last fall/this spring for him to go through training). We were so glad to meet her family! We drove through Garden of the Gods - we didn't have much time left that afternoon, and it was rather hot outside, so we decided not to walk around and see more of it. We'll do that the next time we're in Colorado! The Kissing Camels Balancing Rock My heart sank a little when I realized just how close we were to Manitou Springs. Sarah's and my dear friend, Kathryn, is there for the summer, and we had no time to see her! :( Colorado Springs is also home to the United States Olympic Committee! And...they offer free tours of the US Olympic Training Center! It was so cool!! Men gymnasts train there - women don't, typically, since the peak age for that sport is 16, and you have to be at least 16 to live and train there. That's how high the diving platforms are! We peeked in the windows to see the pool... The gym, where athletes in many sports do strength training in the off-season. Those are bobsled team members! There's a huge indoor shooting range there, too. There were really interesting sculptures all over the place! (Those are storm clouds, and yes, it did rain that afternoon!) Beautiful flowers - a pretty sight after the desert. :) For the love of travel, Rebekah

Several weeks ago, Ryan and spent a weekend in Grand Junction. This was a true adventure because we’d never been to Grand Junction before. We’d driven through, but never stopped to smell the roses, or rather, the perfume of wine. I’m going to highlight our foodie and wine adventures in Grand Junction in another post, but here I want to concentrate on our morning at the Colorado National Monument. First,
A trip to Powderhorn Mountain Resort near Grand Junction was like stepping back in time, when it was all about family, friends and great skiing.
The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and 5000 feet deep. This arial view was from my seat on Southwest Airlines. The canyon reaches depths of 5,700 feet. The Grand Canyon’s oldest sedimentary rocks date back almost 2 billion years. An awesome site from above, below or at the rim trails. This arid landscape is one of the treasures of the earth. Here is a link to another site of mine. youtu.be/cAgoBOaM0XM Be a hero - DONATE BLOOD - it's safe and fun -really!
