A monumental two-piece sectional Omnibus I sofa with two ottmans by Vladimir Kagan, 1970s. This modular sofa would look great in any Mid-Century Modern or Contemporary home. The scale is wonderful, however, new upholstery is recommended. The lucite bases are in good condition with some scratches and age-appropriate wear. The lucite can be polished to perfection. A classic masterpiece! From the Complete Vladimir Kagan book: Vladimir Kagan talks about a large curvaceous sofa which he called the Serpentine which he first came up with in the late 1940s but it took off in the 1950s. "I wanted to create a seating concept that would 'float' in the center of a room. An island surrounded by works of art on my client's walls. It was the era of Jackson Pollock, Hans Hoffman, and William De Kooning and my patrons were hung wall to wall with these huge paintings. A natural outflow of the Serpentine concept was Omnibus. This design would become the focal point of the late 60s and 70s. A fusion of more than 30 elements. This modular and multi-level furniture could meander through a room sometimes climbing from a conversation pit into an adjoining area." Andrea Tsang Jackson is a textile artist and designer based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She began sewing as a new mom, and parlayed her past experience in the architecture world into her quilt designs, where she explores her love of geometry, material, and place. In 2017, Andrea was the artist-in-residence at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. Her quilt, The Here and Elsewhere Bee, compiles nearly 1,200 immigration stories and assembles them into a 114″ x 108″ quilt. The project is a collaborative effort, with each of the almost 1200 blocks having been completed by a museum visitor, representing a bit of each visitor’s immigration narrative. Andrea is also a pattern designer, and her patterns can be purchased in her Etsy shop. In 2016, Andrea was the recipient of the Etsy Award for New Talent Canada, and she has been featured in Uppercase Magazine as well as on the Modern Sewciety podcast.
