Vintage United We Shall Overcome Civil Rights Sticker 1960s 3 1/4" ~ Such a historic collectible! These lapel stickers were used during the 1960s Era SNCC / CORE movement and during the Civil Rights Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. led protest march. An interesting history of how these movements formed and their impact today is here. https://www.khanacademy.org/humanities/us-history/postwarera/civil-rights-movement/a/sncc-and-core Old stickers lose adhesiveness first so will likely need assistance to stick to something aka glue.

Step into a contentious chapter of American political history with the "Lester Maddox Poster Print," featuring the controversial governor of Georgia and staunch segregationist of the Civil Rights era. Lester Maddox rose to national prominence in the 1960s, embodying the resistance to integration in the South with his outspoken defiance of federal desegregation policies. This poster captures Maddox at a pivotal time when America grappled with social and racial tensions, making it a provocative piece of wall art that will stimulate discussion and reflection on the complex journey towards equality and justice in the United States. This art print presents a photo of Lester Maddox, conveying the assertiveness and fervor that defined his political stance. The crisp reproduction of the original photo showcases the intensity of the period and the polarizing figure that Maddox represented. Ideal for a study in American history, civil rights education, or as a striking conversation piece, this portrait offers more than a glimpse into the past—it serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring struggle for civil rights and the individuals who have stood on various sides of history. Whether placed in an educational setting or a personal collection, the Lester Maddox print is a compelling addition for those who seek to understand the full spectrum of American political life.

As a literacy coach, one of my responsibilities is to help the teachers at my school incorporate more reading and writing across the curriculum. This is one strategy I have used to help build background knowledge before beginning a unit of study. The activity is designed to be a quick introduction to an important figure (and the issues of the Civil Rights era), not a comprehensive research assignment. It includes guiding questions to help students find important information about the historical figure. After researching, the students write a paragraph to synthesize their findings and explain why this person is worthy of study. 2020 Update: I added a digital interactive layer to allow teachers to assign the activity through Google Classrooms. You, the buyer, may also edit/add the interactive layer using TpT's FREE digital tool available once you download this resource.
