Over the past couple years I've shown you how to recycle your old holiday cards, junk mail, and gift wrap into many festive new objects, including ornaments, gift tags, countdown paper chains, mini gift bags, and scrapbooks (via last month's e-newsletter). What else could there be to use all this old "trash" for? Today's fantastic recycled Christmas placemat project comes from none other than my extremely creative sister Heidi, of iBusybodies.com! This is a great project to use up those old holiday cards, gift wrap, holiday-themed junk mail & catalogs, and even those PHOTO cards! Here's what Heidi did... Cut squares out of all the recycled items you want to use. She used this square punch, and used the corner rounder (below left) on the corners when finished. I don't have a square punch, so I made some using my cutting board, cutting 1.5" squares. Here's the fun part that will really personalize your placemats...use photo cards you get in the mail too! Make sure to center the squares around your friends and family's faces. You may want to hand cut or use a cutting board for this so you can see what you're doing. Then, simply stick down the squares on your larger paper until you fill it up. Heidi used a double-stick tape applicator made for scrapbooking on the back of each square. When I made mine, I laid out a long strip of double-stick tape on my paper backing and stuck the squares to it. Trim off edges where necessary, and round the corners if you choose. Then, so they can stand up to spills and drips, have them laminated at Kinko's or your print shop of choice. And you're done! These placemats will be even more fun to look at in years to come as the photos of friends and family get older! Top them with a recycled holiday light napkin ring and you're sure to start a conversation with your guests! Thanks for the great idea, Heidi!! And, kudos to my mom, Rollie Brandt, who took all the great photos!

I came across an amazing wild strawberry leaf made by a number of needle pokes through paper. It's simple, yet stylish - a beautiful piece of art. I am not much of an artist but I thought, "I am going to try that" and being practical I decided to do Christmas cards and have them ready to be sent when time comes. The process requires patience but I found it somewhat calming. Poke by poke and blank cards were covered with snowflakes, Christmas trees and greetings - formed by pinholes. 1. To make the pinhole cards you will need: - Blank cards; - Some templates if wanted; - Adhesive tape to hold the template; - A pin; - A soft surface (I used a computer mouse pad). Additional supplies: - Coloured paper for card insert; - Glue; - Cutting board; - Paper cutter. 2. Place the template over a blank card or two (N. B. the hand cramps up quicker when pushing through more than two cards). Use some tape if you want the template to stay firm on the card. 3. Then... oh joy... poke the holes in the card following the template. N.B. Lower quality paper is easier to tear up when poking. A cotton paper might be a perfect choice - a wild strawberry leaf was pinholed on such. 4. Cut out the insert of a wanted size and glue it to the card. 5. That is all. Enjoy your handmade card and send that joy to your beloved ones with the warmest greetings. 6. And do as many cards as your hand allows ;)

Ugh, at least TRY to disguise it!
Stories collected while living in France.
Beautiful Bouquet is on the retiring list, along with the coordinating Bouquet Bunch dies. 😢 I remember when I first purchased this set and how excited I was to use it. And that excitement has never gone away. Every time I pull out this set/dies, I feel some creative energy. Maybe it's because of the large number of flowers you can stamp/cut out. Maybe it's because your bouquet color palettes are nearly endless. And maybe it's just because I LOVE flowers! Anyway, had to pull this out one more time (although I'm contemplating keeping it for.ev.er.) Can you say gorgeous??? OK, so I didn't mention that I also love purples and yellows together. This card started with the Whisper White Ornate Layers die cut that I had sitting on my desk from another project (it was about to end up in my orphan box, but I decided to use it). Then I wanted to fill it with color, and I perused my stash of Designer Series Papers, settling on Mosaic Mood (also on the retiring list). And that led me to thinking about yellows...and eventually to purples... Wowsers! Lovely! The flowers were stamped using Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather and Daffodil Delight. I cut them with the dies, and then cut some of the background flower bunches with Purple Posy, and some sprigs of white. I'm going to be sorry to see this go, but I know there are lots of lovely flower stamps yet to come. If you would like to get this set, there's still time, but only this month. Here is a simple and easy way to twist your way of wrapping (meals, gifts, etc.) !
These 37 amazingly creative DIY gift wrap tutorials are just the thing to help you present the perfect gift in the perfect way. (Several simple tutorials)
I've always wrap my presents the same way, coloured tissue paper followed by brown paper and string. I've wrapped them this way for years (apart from the time I used kitchen foil which didn't go down so well....) I guess I'm a creature of habit and it's become a bit of a tradition! I thought I'd show you some of the gifts I've wrapped this year in case you needed some last minute ideas.. I had some instagram pictures printed and I've used them instead of gift tags (I just attach them using mini bulldog clips) I used images that relate to each person- whether it's a snap of them or an image from a day we've spent together to make it more personal. bunting decorations are really easy and fun! take a strip of washi tape, fold it over the string and cut off the edges into a triangle shape. if you don't have any washi tape you can use patterned paper and double sided tape. sometimes I just decorate the gift tags! I cut out plain brown card rectangles, punch a hole in them and use a rubber stamp letter kit and some stickers to create a cute and simple decoration. paper doily decorations are another favourite of mine. simply glue on the paper doily and use some lace or trimmings to make a simple bow, pretty and feminine. my favourite decoration this year is my googly eyes.. my inner child had hours of fun with these bad boys. I've officially reached christmas factor high alert... TWO MORE SLEEPS!! caroline x

Happy Friday friends! Just Add Ink have a brand new challenge and Kelly has suggested for this one we add "Lines" to our projects...This is a very simple and fun one! I'd just received my lovely new "Delivering Cheer" stamp set and decided it was perfect for inking and colouring on this one. I've used a combination of Stampin Blends in Ivory & bronze (skintone) and Flirty flamingo-Fresh Freesia-Mint Macaron-Evening Evergreen for the parcels and dress and layered it on a diecut from the Layering Hugs dies. The dsp is from the Hand-Penned dsp and l've added a couple of Be Dazzling hearts for some sparkle. The "Hugs" is diecut from the Layering Hugs dies also and coloured with Evening Evergreen & Soft Succulent Stampin Blends. The design team have some lovely "Line" projects to share, so make sure you click the link above and pop over for a peek at those! Thanks for stopping by! All supplies used are Stampin Up!
