Ideas for March Week 2 LDS Primary Sharing Time, 2018 Sharing Time Outline Theme: I am a Child of God March 2018 Sharing Time Topic: Jesus Christ Is Our Savior March 2018 Song: “If the Savior Stood Beside Me” (page 28 in sharing time outline) March Week 2 Topic: Because of Christ’s Atonement, I can repent and live with God again Preparation: Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important thing is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ! (All printables for this sharing time can be found and printed by clicking the "Free Printable Download" button. They are free and can be printed and used for personal and church purposes) Sharing Time Instruction: To begin Sharing Time, invite nine primary children to come to the front of the room. Mix up the letters to the word "Atonement" (see free download). Give each of the nine primary children a letter. Invite the rest of the primary to help you unscramble the letters. When the word "Atonement" is in order, invite the primary children to say the word. Ask the primary children to tell you what they know about the Atonement? Show the primary children the week's theme poster and invite the primary children to repeat, "Because of Christ's Atonement, I can repent and live with God again." Explain to the primary children that we learn a few things just from our week's theme. We learn that the atonement is something the Jesus Christ did. We learn that because of Christ's atonement we can repent. And we also learn that as we repent and through Christ's atonement we can live with our Heavenly Father again. Explain to the primary children that the Atonement, was an act of love! That we can continue to feel the love of our Heavenly Father and Savior as we allow the atonement to work in our lives. On the board, cover the following pictures, with the coordinating paper printables. Who suffered in the atonement? (printable): Picture of Jesus; Read this quote from the True to the Faith booklet, "Jesus Christ “was prepared from the foundation of the world to redeem [His] people” (Ether 3:14). In the premortal spirit world, Heavenly Father presented the eternal plan of salvation, which required an infinite and eternal Atonement. The premortal Jesus, then known as Jehovah, humbly declared that He would do the will of the Father in fulfilling the plan (see Moses 4:2)." What is the Atonement? (printable): Picture of the Jesus praying in Gethsemane; Read this quote from the True to the Faith booklet, "The Atonement is the supreme expression of our Heavenly Father’s love for us (see John 3:16). It is also the greatest expression of the Savior’s love for the Father and for us (see John 14:28–31; 15:9–13; 1 John 3:16; D&C 34:3; 138:1–4)....Jesus’s atoning sacrifice took place in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross at Calvary. In Gethsemane He submitted to the will of the Father and began to take upon Himself the sins of all people....All people who have ever lived on the earth and who ever will live on the earth will be resurrected and brought back into the presence of God to be judged (see 2 Nephi 2:5–10; Helaman 14:15–17). Through the Savior’s gift of mercy and redeeming grace, we will all receive the gift of immortality and live forever in glorified, resurrected bodies....Although we are redeemed unconditionally from the universal effects of the Fall, we are accountable for our own sins... We must exercise faith in Jesus Christ, repent, be baptized for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost... In addition to offering redemption from the pain of sin, the Savior offers peace in times of trial. As part of His Atonement, Jesus took upon Himself the pains, sicknesses, and infirmities of all people (see Alma 7:11–12)." Why was the atonement necessary? (printable): Picture of The Second Coming; Read this quote from the True to the Faith booklet, "As descendants of Adam and Eve, all people inherit the effects of the Fall. We all experience spiritual death, being separated from the presence of God, and we are all subject to temporal death, which is the death of the physical body (see Alma 42:6–9; D&C 29:41–42). In our fallen state, we are subject to opposition and temptation. When we give in to temptation, we distance ourselves from God and come short of His glory (see Romans 3:23)....The only way for us to be saved is for someone else to rescue us. We need someone who can satisfy the demands of justice—standing in our place to assume the burden of the Fall and to pay the price for our sins. Jesus Christ has always been the only one capable of making such a sacrifice." How can we use the atonement? (printable): Picture of Young Boy Praying; Read this quote from the True to the Faith booklet, "Repentance is much more than just acknowledging wrongdoings. It is a change of mind and heart that gives you a fresh view about God, about yourself, and about the world. It includes turning away from sin and turning to God for forgiveness. It is motivated by love for God and the sincere desire to obey His commandments." You could also discuss the steps of repentance: Faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ; Sorrow for Sin; Confession; Abandonment of Sin; Restitution; Righteous Living. Also explain that we can turn to our Savior whenever we are sad, ill, or with any other pains or infirmities. Invite a primary child to come up and read the question on the printable. (I would go in the order above). Invite the primary children to share any answers they have. Invite the primary child to take the paper off of the picture. Then read the coordinating quote (see above) with the primary and discuss. Ask them if they have any questions, to make sure they understand the doctrine. After each poster is discussed, share your testimony of the atonement of Jesus Christ and the importance of using it in our lives, by repenting and turning to the Savior. *************************** Thank you so much for stopping by! ***Great news! I'm turning my coloring pages into a beautiful coloring book and journal, which will be published and ready to ship just in time for Christmas! If you're interested, you can pre-order now on Kickstarter!*** Hello again! I finally have another coloring page for you -- this scripture was a request from my friend Wendy, and I finally have it finished only 10 days too late for the event she needed it for... Sorry, Wendy! But I really do love this bold declaration of discipleship found in 3 Nephi in the Book of Mormon, written by Mormon, the prophet who compiled all the records which would one day become the Book of Mormon. His life was so hard - he watched as his whole nation turned away from God until he and his son Moroni were the last disciples of Christ left - but that didn't change his determination to do all he could to follow the Savior and do what he could for his people and for all who would come after. And his identity as a disciple of Christ is what kept him from despair! It gave him joy and courage and wisdom and love, even in the face of the greatest adversity. I decided to try something different for this week's page and go full-on folk art with the design. I've always loved the intricate flowers and bold shapes, and I thought this would give us lots of fun nooks and crannies to color. Have a lovely week, and check back in next week -- I've already got a page in the works that I really like. To download this page, just right-click to save to your computer. Make sure you click "fit to page" in case the margins aren't quite right for your printer. Feel free to share!
