As Christian parents, teaching kids about God is the most important task we have. More than ever our kids need a solid biblical foundation for knowing how to study the Bible and how to have a relationship with God! But how does that happen? What does it look like to teach kids about God in a modern Christian family (who already have a hectic, full life)? In this post, I've gathered the best practical resources for teaching kids about God, plus a free video course that's perfect for how to teach children about God.

Having sorted out the language I want to use to explain the Beatitudes (click here to go the Beatitudes cards), I've now got around to sorting out some more ideas for Sunday. To link with the cards for each saying, I've got some props. They don't exactly match the cards, but close enough! An inflatable swimming ring to symbolise relying on God's help (poor in spirit) A comforting cuddly toy (mourning) A gift bag (humble- people who think of others before themselves etc) Scales (made of a coat hanger and yoghurt pots as I didn't have the real thing! (righteousness and justice) Cross (mercy and forgiveness) Heart (pure in heart) Dove (peacemakers) Rope (persecuted) I've made some more cards for a prayer activity to get the children thinking about how they can live more in the spirit of the Beatitudes. After some time thinking and listening to God, the children can choose one of the cards and hang it onto a 'tree' constructed of twigs in a jar. They can then ask God to help them grow in this area. Thanks to 'The secret of happiness' lesson at Urban Saints Energize for some of the ideas for these prayer cards. For a printable version of the cards click here.

Students will read, practice, and select their top positive self-talk statements from the list or create their own. They will write those positive statements in the flower craft. Students will then color and design their flower. Alternatively, students can use pre-made samples with positive self-talk already listed. Students will then cut out their flower craft and fold on the pedals. Let students practice their positive self-talk by opening up their flower craft. Partners and groups can spend time reading each others'. Encourage students to read each others’ positive affirmations. This can be a great activity in small groups to discuss strategies and identify how positive self-talk can help. You can also post these on a bulletin board, tape them on lockers, or post them on doors to fill the school with positive affirmations.
