Après un album en dessous de la moyenne, Come With Us, les Chemical Brothers sont attendus au tournant pour leur cinquième long format. L'équilibre entre techno dansante et grand public s'avère difficile à maintenir. Mais avec un premier single percutant, une habitude chez eux, le duo va prouver qu'il n'a rien perdu de son inventivité.Sur « Galvanize », le rappeur américain Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest) harangue l'auditeur sur un rap-electro dynamité par un sample de violons orientaux. « Left Right », avec Anwar superstar, constitue l'autre passage rap, plus conforme au genre, du disque. La liste des invités ne fait que commencer : Kele Okereke de Bloc Party, et Tim Burgess de The Charlatans, chacun sur un titre, donnent une impulsion electro-clash. Ce mélange de rock et de musique électronique, très tendance à l'époque, rappelle le Big Beat des débuts. Puis c'est au tour d'Anne-Lyne Willliams d'apparaître sur « Hold Tight London » qui aurait des airs de pop s'il n'était rehaussé d'une rythmique énergique. Comme toujours, Rowlands et Simons aiment étirer leurs morceaux en longueur pour les faire progresser en douceur ou leur donner un côté planant. Si la formule fonctionne bien pour les plages de Push The Button qui incluent du chant, certains titres instrumentaux comme « The Big Jump » sont un peu fades. La fin de l'album prend sérieusement un air expérimental avec guitares pop, rythmiques et sons world le tout dans une architecture électronique avec effets et samples à foison. Tout en langueur et accents psychédéliques, les Chemical Brothers continuent leurs expérimentations avec talent.
