Charlotte's Web might technically be a book for kids, but E.B. White's classic 1952 novel is just as entertaining for adults as it is for children — which is why we have absolutely no problem reading it for our kids every single time they ask. And it's a classic for a reason — the heartwarming tale of unlikely friendship has a message that will never get old. Charlotte (spoiler alert!) might have died right after sparing Wilbur's life by saving him from slaughter, but her spirit will live on in the book forever. We've gathered our absolute favorite quotes from the story...
Kids are different and in a classroom of twenty-five to thirty of them, you'll see a whole lot of different. When I was teaching, I was always on the hunt for ways to draw every kid into a project. I'm hoping this free resource can help. If you're reading Charlotte's Web this year, here's something you might want to try. I always liked to give my students a chance to be a little creative. Some of them loved it. Others, not so much. But this resource can cater to those on both sides of the fence. Each student gets three pages of cut and paste pictures from the book. Page one contains the human characters and some bigger props... Page 2 has the animal characters... Page 3 gives them props from each chapter... They choose their pictures, arrange them on the page and then draw and color the rest of the scene. With these small pictures they can create a scene from any chapter. You could let them pick the chapter they liked best or have them draw a chapter out of a hat. You could do this independently or as a cooperative project, having them work in twos or threes to create one picture, or even a series of pictures depicting the entire chapter. Included are two types of pages for them to create on. One uses the entire page and includes a second page of lines for them to describe or summarize their scene. The second uses a half page for the scene and the other half for the description. The small pictures are a help to those students who just don't know where to start and to those who aren't as project minded as others. If this resource would be a help to you, you can find it here.
This Charlotte's Web activity pairs perfectly with the book and teaches character traits. This Charlotte's Web craft is perfect for kids 8-12 after reading the book.
Yeah! Our state testing is over! We finished our last 2 sessions of our state testing this week. My kiddos were pretty fried… but I didn’t want to lose speed in our last 9 weeks of 3rd grade. I knew that this week would need a special kind of book to keep […]

I made a list of things that I plan on changing this year. I only hope that I can accomplish each one. During my Christmas/New Year break, I decided to stay busy by working on my lesson plans for January. The new year also begins the 3rd 9 weeks at my school. I really hope my 3rd graders are well rested because I plan on working them for the next 18 weeks!!!! One of my favorite novels is Charlotte's Web. Print and Digital! Such a unique and engaging novel study with an awesome final product! This study breaks the book into 11 sections of 2 chapters each, and each of the sections focuses on a reading strategy or skill. Two versions are included. In the first version, student work is recorded on different relevant items that will then be cut out and placed in a pig “handbag” that students will make! A second version is also included in case you prefer a booklet format (same reading strategy and skill activities but on pages that can be stapled or bound together like a book). Both versions also include writing chapter summaries, vocabulary, character traits, book summary, book review, and theme. Also included is a page of background information about the author, a basic scoring page (for either version), and an answer key for all activities.
