Hi there, I’m Craig Underhill, and welcome to my studio. And in this masterclass, I will be demonstrating how I make my work. This workshop…
Like a patchwork quilt in clay, this vase is replete with color and texture. In an intensive multi-step process, the artist rolls out and imprints individual pieces of clay, "stitches" them together with slip, then shapes them into a sculptural vessel. The piece is then airbrushed and hand painted with vibrant glazes. Each piece is unique; exact patterns and colors will vary.
Everyone loves fresh flowers and the beauty they add to a room. However, after those flowers have wilted, the vase that they came in usually goes into a cabinet because the vase itself is rarely very decorative. Not so with this beautiful hand painted jardin vase with large eye-catching daisies. When those fresh flowers have gone, this vase remains a perfect addition to the room. This vase would make a wonderful Wedding Present (personalization available for an additional charge - message me if interested), Valentine's Day, Birthday or Anniversary gift. This vase would also make a great housewarming present or the perfect addition to your own home. The small to medium sized vase (7 inches tall and just over 3 inches in diameter) features multiple large hand painted daisies and small leaves interspersed throughout the design. The design around the vase is painted using a special enamel paint that is then heat cured for extra durability. Although the paint is cured so that it is top shelf dishwasher safe, hand washing is recommended to preserve the beauty of this piece for years to come. Though shipping glass is not an exact science, I have taken all precautions to ensure that the item arrives at your door or to your gift recipient safely. Each piece is carefully wrapped in bubble wrap then again in craft paper. Then the item is placed in ample amounts of biodegradable packing peanuts in a sturdy box. All products are shipped insured via USPS priority mail or UPS ground service. If, however for some reason, the product arrives damaged, I ask that the buyer please send photographs of the damaged item within seven days of receipt. I will immediately prepare and send a replacement item and handle the insurance claim process. ACOMA PUEBLO RED HEARTLINE NATIVE AMERICAN POTTERY VESSEL BY MILDRED ANTONIO Mildred Antonio, member of the Eagle Clan, is a full blooded Native American Indian. She was born into the Acoma Pueblo in 1937. She was inspired to learn the art of working with clay at the age of 15. Mildred watched her aunt, Marie Torivio, construct her pottery and this sparked an interest in her. Marie taught her all the fundamentals of working with clay using ancient traditional methods. Mildred has also been to several art shows to view the art of other pottery artists and gather some ideas for her own work. Mildred specializes in the hand coiled traditional Acoma pottery. She is known for her swirl patterns, checker board patterns, and wild antelpe designs incorporated with flowers. She gathers her clay from within the Acoma Pueblo. The clay is hand soaked, cleaned hand mixes, hand coiled, hand sanded, hand painted, and fired outdoors, with natural pigments. Mildred gathers natural flowers and other pigments to boil her own colors on her masterpieces. Mildred signs her pottery as: M. Antonio, Acoma. She is related to the following artists: Santana Antonio (mother-in-law), Milissa Antonio (daughter-in-law), and Frederica Antonio (daughter-in-law). less

This raku vase has a beautiful array of colors and many different textures. The texture around the top was done with vinegar, leaving a stark contrast between the smooth glossy glaze and the bubbly rough top. This vase measures H:4.5" x W:6.5" x L:6.5" The color patterning is one of a kind, and cannot be replicated due to the varying nature of Raku. This was poured and Raku fired recently, so it will have a bit of a smoky bonfire smell. This will fade within a month, and is a natural part of the Raku process.
This handmade ceramic bud vase features an organic, earthy design that harmonizes natural textures with a minimalist aesthetic. Its rounded, slightly irregular form is enhanced by a coarse, sandy, beige body, giving it a raw, unrefined character. The vase is adorned with splashes of white glaze, creating a striking contrast against its rough, matte surface. The dual openings at the top suggest a versatile functionality, ideal for displaying delicate stems or small, dried floral arrangements. Signed Priscilla on the bottom, dated 1960's

A family of hand-formed finches peek through a bouquet of orchids, gladiolas, roses, and artichokes. This vase is slab and hand-formed, dried slowly, then painted with colorful underglazes, and fired for the first time. To give the vase the feel of an aged heirloom, the vase is washed with a dark stain before delicate details are added with tiny paintbrushes, airbrushed for even more depth, and the vase is fired a second time.
