Mugly NYC is a Brooklyn based ceramic studio specializing in richly textured sculptural clay and porcelain that evoke the poetics of the handmade. This Moon Jar was handmade in 2022 with highly textured sculpture clay and porcelain slip, the interior is glazed and is suitable for holding water. About the creator: Ilona Golovina is the lead designer and artist behind Mugly NYC. Mugly’s handmade ceramics have been produced in Brooklyn since 2020 and emphasize the unpredictability of ceramics including self-foraged materials such as natural clays, minerals, and other techniques inspired by ancient pottery processes. The textures, flaws, and unique variations in these works transform the mundane into things both human and poetic. Golovinia’s work has been exhibited in New York City and Milan, and has been featured in AD Italy and Domino Magazine.

In his artwork someone’s poem is expressed as sounds, painting, dancing. It is very similar to how a poet’s work uses language. A friend in Japan sent me this image today and I found it quite compelling. It illustrates the art of kintsukuroi, which literally means "to repair with gold." It is the art of repairing broken pottery with gold or silver lacquer to make the final piece a greater work of art for having been broken.
