I'm having to post about Lilah and Jaxon's 4th Birthday party in segments (saving the best for last... the party guests). There are just way too many fun details to not give them their own posts. Being the party was only 2 hours long and the party rooms at "Pump It Up" are so colorful, I decided to eliminate balloons and spend a little extra money on something more unique. My incredibly talented/artistic friend ERIN, completed a task that I hired her for. She did an amazing job fulfilling my visions. Erin drew/painted/designed the following... "Clark the Fish" A Faceless Thing 1 and Thing 2 A window scene of Sally and Conrad. A "Cat in the Hat" balloon popping game. I purchased darts at Dick's Sporting Goods and allowed each party guest a turn to pop ONE balloon. Each kid received a Cat In The Hat prize ranging from t-shirts, lunch boxes, books, dvds, puzzles, etc. I'm so bummed I don't have a picture of the prizes because they were so cutely wrapped and FUN. These decorations were a huge hit and received crazy compliments. I am in the process of putting them on Craig's list to sell. If you are interested in purchasing them for your event, please contact me @ [email protected]. Another form of decor that I had displayed, was a modern looking printable asking our guests to "Wait!!! Stop here, you must! And write a very special message to us!!! A birthday wish or just to say hi to your favorite 4 year old girl and guy!" I loved this idea because Lilah and Jax will have a memory of a lifetime every time they read this birthday book by Dr. Seuss. Random Dr. Seuss quotes, framed, and displayed in their proper places throughout the party room. What better than Dr. Seuss' books themselves to use as decor??? If you check out the Dr. Seuss party FOOD post, you will see that our food matched some his well known written books. A Dr Seuss theme party is not just limited to children's birthday celebrations. Be creative - think baby showers, graduation parties (Oh, the Places You'll Go), Halloween (Green Eggs and Ham) and Christmas parties (How the Grinch Stole Christmas) , and elementary school fundraisers and teacher appreciation days. We love Dr. Seuss and concoct any excuse to create a party theme using works as inspiration.
Read Across America Day is one of my favorite days of the school year. I don't know what teacher would not love a day all about reading! In my classroom, we turn the week into Dr. Seuss week! We do an author study and look at a variety of Dr. Seuss books. We have activities, worksheets, writing craftivities, and math stations that center around the book. The kids favorite part is our Dr. Seuss Snack that matches the book! Here are 5 [fairly simple] Dr. Seuss Inspired Snacks! The Cat in the Hat inspired Snack! This one is the trickiest, but it is definitely doable! Marshmallows dipped in white chocolate with a cookie or half an oreo as the base (I have heard banana works instead of marshmallows). Put red fruit snacks around it. Dip the base in blue sprinkles! The kids will love this Cat in the Hat snack! One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish! This one is simple! Just make blue jello and put into individual cups! Place swedish fish in the cups. Make sure you wait until you are about to serve it or else the fish get slimy and the color wears off (we ended up with fish that looked dead one year...) The kids loving solving these addition problems on our One Fish, Two Fish day! Hop on Pop! Anyone can make this! It is just popcorn! We put them in individual bags for the kids! The Lorax! This is my favorite Dr. Seuss book & the snack is pretty good too! Just take a nutter butter cookie. Add the candy eyes and a yellow frosting mustache! I like to do this long vowel and short vowel word sort during our Lorax day! We also sort real words and silly words on Lorax day (and throughout the rest of the week)! Green Eggs and Ham! I used to do the green yogurt & vanilla wafer for the kids. That always got quite the reaction. Now I do pretzel sticks with melted white chocolate hershey kiss and a green m&m on top! Looking for some Seuss-Inspired educational activities to go along with this? Here is a long and short vowel word sort! Here is a silly word and real word CVC sort! Here are interactive addition problems!

Artfully adapted almost entirely from Ted Geisel’s work, this introduction to the world of Dr. Seuss is a must for expectant parents and new babies! In simple rhymed verse, author Tish Rabe extolls the joys awaiting newborns when they meet the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Yertle the Turtle, the Great Birthday Bird, the Grinch, and twenty-five other beloved Seuss characters. Written to be read aloud to babies and babies-to-be (yes, babies in utero!), the book includes a brief introduction by Mrs. Dr. Seuss—Audrey Geisel—revealing how she and Ted were fascinated by the idea that babies could hear sounds while still in the womb—and might actually respond to the voices of their parents. A perfect gift for baby showers and newborns, Oh, Baby, the Places You'll Go! is the ideal way to nurture a love of reading and Dr. Seuss in the very youngest children!

This past Saturday we celebrated Caleb's 2nd birthday Cat in the Hat style. I am just in love with how everything turned out. We celebrated at our home, and had a Seusstastical water party! It was a great time. Little man was so thrilled, and had a permanent smile wiped across his face. I am going to break down his party into different posts. First we have decorations. I worked so hard on all the details of the party, and I have been searching for ideas for months. I have become obsessed with all things pinterest, and the ideas on that website are endless. Everything was executed perfectly, and I could not have asked for a cuter party. The printables came from this etsy website. The window from the book The perfect Seusstastical 2 You have to love Dr. Seuss quotes My mother in law made this fish. We google imaged "cat in the hat fish". We then enlarged it on word, printed, and cut. Stackable household objects, just like the cat stacks in the book. Thing 1 and Thing 2 arrive in a red box in the book. Notice their hair sticking out? :) Loved this ribbon wall! So simple but so adorable! The food table The cake (made by my sister, sis-in-law, and grandmother). Aren't the candles PERFECT?? The signs were one of my favorite parts. I found this idea online and fell in love! It is pvc pipe that is spray painted!! So cute! This was in the front garden when guests arrived I love how these ribbon balls turned out. They took forever, but were oh so great. They were made from styrofoam balls, ribbon, and stick pins. The red and blue glasswear I bought at hobby lobby for 50% off! Pin It
Have I told y'all Burke refers to Goodwill as "The Book Store"? What can I say? I love books, he loves books, and we rarely leave a thrift store without a few literary masterpieces (or Sandra Boynton board books) for his little library. I also love perusing the book section for books that can be
Being a crazy cat lady, I think everything is better with cat ears. Hats, especially. Because if you’re gonna wear a hat to keep your head warm, why not add in some cat ears to make it cute? I’ve been...

I may have mentioned that our Party of 11 will soon become a Party of 13 because my sister's twins will be arriving any week now. And the arrival of twins means only one thing around here - a big fancy baby shower! Well, it will mean more than that for my sister when they arrive I'm sure, but for now it means a party. Early on, my sister and brother-in-law decided that the sex of the new babies would be a surprise, and that they would be welcomed to the world with a Thing One and Thing Two baby shower. (Never mind that they will actually be Thing Three and Thing Four!) So, we started off by buying every red and light blue party decoration we could find. As you can see, there were a few available. Some way into this shopping frenzy, I realised that I knew nothing about Thing One and Thing Two. I mean, I knew that they were two blue-haired little creatures in a Dr Seuss book, but nothing else. So I decided to be a good party planner/Aunty, and do some research by watching Mike Myers' The Cat in the Hat. That movie is bloody hilarious. But what I found more hilarious was that my sister had chosen to base her baby twins' shower on two little buggers that jump out of a box and absolutely wreck the house. I'm pretty sure that's the definition of tempting fate! (And I'm leaving any joke about little people coming out of a box absolutely alone!) So with that good laugh out of the way, it was time for some serious party crafting. Now you might have seen this Nautical Baby Shower that my sister styled for her sister in law's baby shower alittle while ago? Well, it seems party decorating is her forte, because she did a great job making so many bits and pieces for her party. And before you get into me about making her do stuff for her own party - she wanted to, starting with these entryway decorations. Now I don't know about you, but I have a morbid fear of walking into the wrong house when I'm invited to a party at a place I've never been to before. I mean, so many parties are held in the backyard or it's too loud inside, so after knocking for like 15 minutes, you have to just walk in and hope for the best! So I'm hereby introducing a mandatory door decoration rule on P11. And they have to be as fab as these! Another P11 rule I had reinforced to me while planning this party, is this. When a lady with two babies inside her wants every type of party food ever invented and a lolly buffet and a massive Red Velvet Cake at her shower, you just make that happen! So we made more than 15 (yes, 10 plus 5) different party foods happen, including this cake which I absolutely love (and if you've been playing along at home, you know I never say that). However, it seems that I broke my own rule as far as the cake is concerned. Because my sister insists that the day before the party we had a conversation and we decided/I was instructed to make a cake that looked nothing like this and I was warned against those whirly straws. That could very well be true - I'm fairly sure I was lost in a red and light blue haze by then! Thankfully she loved it, but that was too close a call - I really need to start writing this stuff down. Or listening. So, with the shower done and dusted, all that remains is for Thing One and Thing Two to join our Party of 11. Or Party of 13. Well now, isn't that going to get confusing! I'll also be curious to see whether they really turn out to be two little creatures who jump out of a box (still saying nothing about boxes!) and wreck the joint. I'll keep you posted!
