The best beginning of the year STEM challenges have 3 things in common: 1.) They help students get to know one another and start building teamwork and collaboration. 2.) They allow students to start practicing classroom procedures. 3.) They are incredibly fun and get students excited about STEM!

There is a new collection of adorable Jenoblade stamp designs hitting the MFT shop today and they are the cutest!!! The Tropical Toucans set is just adorable and one of my favorite new sets! For this card I masked off a section at the top of my card and ink blended Distress Oxide Salvaged Patina & Twisted Citron. Then with the masking tape still in place (and after a little drying time), I stamped the tropical flower bundle off of each edge. I find Distress Oxide Black Soot is the best for stamping over Distress Oxide ink blending unless the blending is super duper dry. After removing the masking, I stamped the sentiment and added a little faux ink splatter with a black pen. I stamped, die cut and colored one of the toucans. I just love them!!! And I used foam tape to adhere it to the card front. Here are the Copic colors I used: body - C5, C6 & C8 beak - YR16, YR07, RV06 & RV09 Definitely pop over to the MFT blog to see more projects with the adorable Jenoblade sets! Hugs! Carly

Integrate storybooks and STEM in your classroom with this third-grade STEM activity where students learn about climates and climate zones! In the story Recess at 20 Below, we learn about a climate that is probably very different from our own. We also learn about how children enjoy the climate that they live in. In this 3rd Grade Earth Science activity, students combine information from different sources to describe climate zones and share that with the class. They build their own hanging globe to show different climate zones. Connect to Read Aloud Story: It's a great companion to Recess at 20 Below by Cindy Lou Aillaud.
