Figurative painting by Carl Holsøe (Danish, 1863-1935) Carl Vilhelm Holsøe was a Danish artist, most celebrated for his paintings of sparse, peaceful interiors, which convey calm and tranquillity. Holsøe's figures are motionless and thoughtful, illuminated by natural light, both direct and reflected. He often used his wife as a model, though her identity is always obscured. Holsøe mastered the scenes of the simple beauty of a quiet moment in a quiet room. This is a copy of an original work.
